  • Niger PDP receives APC, ADP defectors

    The Niger State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has received defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and  Advance Democratic Party (ADP) from Niger South (Zone A) Senatorial District.

    The defectors were received by the PDP governorship candidate, Alhaji Umar Nasko, who flagged off his governorship campaign in Bida local government area.

    The defectors from APC were led by Alhaji Kudu Kasim, while the ADP defectors was led by Alhaji Yahaya Designer and Adebaye Nupe.

    The members from the eight local governments from the zone came out in their numbers to declare their support for the candidature of Alhaji Umar Mohammed Nasko and other party candidates for the 2019 general elections.

    Former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu, who is the leader of the party, chairman Tanko Beji, senatorial candidates and former lawmakers and well as prominent party leaders attended the occasion.

  • ‘No going back on zoning in Niger PDP’

    Niger State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its commitment to zoning, saying that it is the strength of the chapter.

    It said it will zone the governorship slot to Niger North (Zone C), urging other zones to show understanding.

    The leader of the Niger North Senatorial District, Alhaji Yahaya Ability, spoke in Minna, the state capital, on the rotational policy.

    He noted that chieftains from  Zone A are warming up for the primary, adding that they can only contest after Zone C has completed eight years.

    He said zoning to Zone C was done to ensure fairness, justice, stability  and peaceful co-existence in the state.

    Ability added: “ Zoning was created by the PDP to ensure  justice, and fairness. It was copied from  the national leadership, which first adopted it before other parties started to copy it.”

    The party leader urged  other political parties in the state to maintain zoning so that unity and peace can reign.

    He said any aspirant from other zone, apart from Zone C, is on his own.

    Ability stressed: “Niger South benefited for eight years under the lateAbdulkadir Kure. It later shifted to Niger East, which also benefited under Dr. Babangida Aliyu. It shifted to Niger North and the PDP lost the election contested by Alhaji Umar Mohammed Nasko. But, the party will still sustain zoning.”

    The deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), also endorsed zoning, saying it is a formula for equity.

    He told reporters in  in Minna that ambitious politicians from other zones should wait till 2023.

    Niger PDP suspends deputy chair

    The Niger State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Yussuf, over anti-party activities.

    The decision to suspend Yussuf was taken at an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee in Minna, the state capital, following allegations of gross misconduct and anti party activities.

    The allegations were brought against the suspended deputy chairman by the Wushishi local government area of the party and the Niger North Senatorial District.

    Yussuf is making moves to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the end of February.

    A statement signed by the State Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Abdullahi Santali said Aminu Yussuf was found guilty of all the allegations.

    “That Alhaji Aminu Yussuf the state Deputy Chairman is hereby suspended from office to allow for investigations of complaints against him.

     

  • Niger PDP gets acting chair

    Former Niger State Speaker Musa Ma’ali yesterday emerged the state acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), following the resignation of Alhaji Mahmud Enagi.

     Enagi resigned to contest the Niger South senatorial election next year.

    Ma’ali emerged at a stakeholders meeting at the party secretariat in Minna, the state capital, which was attended by Governor Mu’azu Aliyu.
