  • Police arrest suspected rapist in Minna

    The Niger Police Command on Monday said it had arrested the 29-year-old man (names withheld), who allegedly raped a minor.

    The command’s spokesman, DSP Mohammadu Abubakar, disclosed this to the media in Minna.

    Abubakar alleged that the suspect, who resides in the same Barkin-Sale area of Minna with the 11-year-old girl, lured her into his room.

    He alleged that preliminary investigation had established that the suspect had canal knowledge of the girl.

    Abubakar said that the suspect would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigation.

    He, however, appealed to parents to always monitor those associating with their children, to prevent girls from sexual abuse.

    Police nab suspect with 88 bundles of fake dollars in Niger

    The Niger Police Command on Monday arrested one Abubakar Suleiman with 88 bundles of fake dollars.

    The command`s spokesman, SP Abigael Unaeze made the disclosure while presenting the suspect before newsmen in Minna.

    She said that Suleiman and three others at large conspired and took his father-in-law to an unknown place in Kogi under the pretext to cure him of his sickness.

    The spokesperson said the suspect, who was arrested with a bag containing 88 bundles of fake dollar notes, confessed to the crime.

    She said that the command had commenced an intensive investigation into the matter.

    In a related development, Unaeze said the command had arrested six suspects with 86 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 164MG Tables, 11 Diazepam, one packet of big bond and box of marches.

    She, however, said that detectives attached to the command had also recovered one AK47 rifle with 25 rounds of 7.62 ×39mm live ammunition abandoned by a gang of armed robbers.

    She added that this followed a distress call that a gang of armed robbers numbering five were operating in the residence of one Dr Amandi Akorbumdu of Bosso area of the state.

    Unaeze explained that the police detectives attached to Bosso division swung into action and gave them a hot chase, as a result, the robbers fled and abandoned the items.

    The Police spokesperson said that all the suspects would soon be charged to court after investigation.

    She appealed to the members of the general public to assist the command by providing useful information about the movement of criminals to the nearest security office for prompt action.

  • Easter: Police commend Niger residents over peaceful conduct

     

    The Niger Police Command on Tuesday commended residents of the state for their peaceful conduct during the last Easter festivities.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Bala Elkalla, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said this in Minna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

    Elkalla said the commendation was “appropriate” as there was no crime or violence recorded throughout the state during the festive period.

    He said this was made possible by the cooperation the police received from residents of the state.

    He assured that the police would continue to initiate various forms of security measures to sustain the peaceful nature the state was known for.

    The Niger police spokesman called on the residents to always offer the command intelligence reports about movements of suspicious characters in their midst.

    He also commended officers and men of the command for demonstrating high sense of professionalism and urged them to sustain the tempo in providing peaceful environment for the people for the state.

  • Two arraigned over police officer’s death

    The Niger Police Command said it has charged two suspects at a Minna Magistrates’ Court with the killing of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Aaron Sunday, serving with Kpakungu Division Minna, by suspected hoodlums.

    Mr Zubairu Muazu, Commissioner of Police, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) in Minna on Tuesday.

    He said that 14 others were also charged with causing civil disturbances during the incident that lead to death of the police officer.

    He explained that the command would ensure diligent prosecution of all those allegedly involved in the deadly act.

    He said that already,  the command had evolved aggressive intelligence gathering to strengthen security in the state .

    ” We have deployed armed  police operatives in and outside the metropolis for the arrest and prosecution of men of underworld .”

    He explained that the command had identified some criminal hideout across the state.

    ” We have set in motion security modalities that will end all forms of criminal conduct through our various security strategies,” he said.

    He solicited the support of residents to volunteer information that would assist the command to provide peaceful atmosphere in the state.
