    Niger Police burst syndicate of ATM card swappers

    The Niger State Police Command has arrested two men, Philip Adefemi, 46, and  Joseph Micheal, 42, for swapping ATM cards from unsuspecting victims.

    Forty-two ATM cards were recovered from the suspects.

    According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects were apprehended by their operatives in  the A Division in Bida afterthey swapped an ATM card from a victim.

    The Police said the victim was at a commercial bank in Bida to withdraw money but when he inserted his ATM in the machine, it did not dispense.

    One of the suspects, who was watching, volunteered to assist him which he did but the machine did not dispense.The suspect gave the victim back his card but had swapped it.

    After the victim left the ATM machine, he received a debit alert of N400,000 and went to the police to report the incident.

    The two suspects were arrested while one other identified as Bala escaped.The suspects confessed that they do not operate in Bida but had to stop over in Bida on their way to Offa in Kwara State for a burial.

    The cards were recovered from the suspects, including that of the victim and a Mercedes-Benz C230 with Reg. No Abuja KUJ 44 NT. They confessed that most of the cards were expired cards used for swapping, stating that they watch the victims very closely to get their password which they use after swapping the ATM cards.

    The Police PRO said the suspects were under investigation and they would be prosecuted as soon as the investigation was concluded.

    The Niger State Police Command has arrested a woman identified as Paulina Ayuba for impersonating as a security agent.

    Ayuba was arrested in Maitumbi dressed in police camouflage uniform, with a knife, which she used to threaten her victims, along some Indian hemp and other hard drugs.

    Ayuba claimed to be a vigilante member of Suleja group, and said the uniform was given to her to dry-clean by a yet to be identified person, but she made away with it.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna for further investigation and prosecution

    Niger police recover 132 rustled rams, arrest suspected gunrunner

    The Niger state police command has recovered 132 rustled rams from three suspects in Zungeru.

    The three suspects include 30-year-old Mohammed Abdullahi Chumo, 20-year-old Aliyu Salihu, and 25-year-old Arzika Ahmadu.

    The suspects, during interrogation, confessed to have conspired and rustled the rams from two victims who were grazing the rams around Manigi area of Mashegu local government area of Niger state.

    The suspects were caught after one of the victims identified Chumo who was one of the members who attacked them trying to sell six of the rams at Zungeru Market.

    The suspect then led the police team to Jimi village where the other rams were kept, while Aliyu and Arzika were also arrested.

    In a related development, the Police said it has arrested 21-year-old Mustapha Ishaku for attempting to sell a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle in the Mandela area of Minna.

    Ishaku confessed that he had worked as a welder and fabricated the iron parts of the rifles while one Bala who is currently at large specialized in carving the wooden parts of the rifles. He said that both of them had fabricated over 20 rifles with Bala.

    He said that he had sold three of the same rifles to some buyers at Izom at the rate of N100,000 each.

    The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun said that the investigation is in progress, as the Crack squad is making efforts to locate and arrest the buyers to recover the rifles.

    He also said that the suspects who had rustled rams have been transferred to the Crack squad unit for discrete investigation and diligent prosecution adding that the rams have been released to the rightful owner.

  • Man kills wife for sexual starvation

    A father of five, Muhammed Manu from New Bussa in Niger state has been arrested by the Niger state Police Command for killing his wife who he alleged starved him of sex on a daily basis.

    According to the 35 year old husband from Barusa Village in New Bussa Local Government Area, his wife, Hassana Bulo, was fond of giving excuses each time he approaches her for sex adding that she had no right to deny him his fundamental marriage right.

    “How can my wife refuse me making love to her, it is an abomination where I come from. She does not have the right to do that.”

    Manu confessed that he killed her with pistols after she provoked him several times and constantly denied him of sex adding that he had warned her of the danger of starving him sex daily.

    “Time without number, I have been warning my wife to stop refusing me sex which is one of the fundamentals of any marriage, each time I demanded sex from she will treat me like a leper, which is unacceptable.

    “On this fateful day, when I pressed for sex further, she pushed me to the side and I lost my temper and killed her. She is always fond of giving excuses each time I want to make love to her”, the suspect said.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Muhammad confirmed the arrest saying the suspect was arrested on Thursday by a team of policemen attached to New Bussa Division.

    He said that the suspect was apprehended for murdering his wife and the case has been charged to Court.

  • Police arrest son for allegedly killing father – CP

    The Niger Police Command has arrested one Abubakar Turuwa of Pissa village of Borgu Local Government Area for allegedly killing his father, Turuwa Ibrahim, over sharing of cattle.

    Commissioner of Police in Niger, Mr Dibal Yakadi, made the disclosure in an interview in Minna on Saturday.

    He said upon interrogation the suspect confessed to the crime, alleging that his father showed partiality in sharing his cattle between him and his brother.

    Yakadi stated he used his machete to inflict injuries  on his father that led to his death.

    He said that the suspect would soon be charged to court after investigation into the matter.

    The Commissioner of Police appealed to residents of the state to volunteer useful information on happenings in their communities for the maintenance of law and order.

  • Police urges information on killers of Inspector, others

    Police in Niger on Tuesday appealed for information that would lead to arrest of killers of a policeman, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) operative and a civilian.

    The command’s Spokesman, Mr Bala Elekana, made the call in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Tuesday.

    He said although sufficient security personnel had been deployed to hunt for the killers, the police still need the help of the public.

    “We have put in place measures that will pave way for the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the senseless killings, but the residents should complement the effort of the command.

    “The residents should come forward with intelligent information that will aid the command to apprehend all those involved in the act,” Elekana said.

     

     

  • Police arrest 21 cattle rustlers, kidnappers in Niger

    The Niger State police command has announced the arrest of 21 suspected cattle rustlers and kidnappers terrorizing residents of the state.

    The Spokesman of the command, Bala Elkalla, disclosed this in a statement in Minna.

    He said the command also recovered 477 cattle, 90 sheeps and various dangerous weapons from the suspects.

    “The suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed,” the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the police spokesman as saying in the statement.

    Elkalla assured residents that the command was adopting proactive measures to end cattle rustling, kidnapping and other forms of criminal activities in the state.

  • Niger police seize bomb-making materials in passenger bus

    Security forces in Niger’s volatile northern region of Agadez have seized large quantities of bomb components being transported in a passenger bus, a local government official said on state-owned radio late on Tuesday.

    Police Special Forces discovered 620 explosives, 41 fuses and 310 electrical cables hidden in the bus during an inspection. In a separate operation, police arrested six bandits and impounded three vehicles as well as firearms, a rocket and military uniforms.

    Speaking at a ceremony during which the materials and the arrested men were exhibited to reporters, Agadez’s governor, Col. Major Fodé Camara, did not specify when the seizures were made.

    “We believe these actions will help reduce insecurity in the region. We would like a bit more collaboration from the population and much more intelligence,” Reuters quoted the governor as saying on the matter.

    Agadez lies along one of West Africa’s primary smuggling routes for drugs, weapons and migrants and is also known as an area of operations for insurgents.
