    Four persons, 15 cows, 20 goats die in Niger road accident

    Four persons have been confirmed dead, alongside 15 cattle and 20 goats in an accident on the Agaie-Lapai Road in the Agaie Local Government of Niger State.

    The crash, which was caused as a result of wrong overtaking, involved three trailer trucks around Al’Farma International School, Agaie. Thirteen people were also injured in the crash.

    It was learnt that one of the trucks was carrying cattle and goats while the other trucks were carrying cartons of foodstuff and perishables.

    Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba Arah, who confirmed the incident, said it was caused by a head-on collision, adding that the injured were receiving treatment at the Agaie General Hospital.

    Eight people have died in a road crash on the Batati/Lanle to Kutigi Road in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.

    The accident was caused by a head-on collision when a Toyota Corolla tried to overtake another vehicle and rammed into an oncoming tanker trailer.

    It was learnt that the eight victims were farmers and they involved five men and three women.

    The state Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Kuma Tsukwan, confirmed the incident.

    He said: “The nature of the crash was multiple and it was fatal. There were two vehicles involved, which included a dark blue Toyota Corolla with registration number ANW243AH coming from Batati to Kutigi and a white truck with no registration number heading to Abuja from Lagos.

    He said the crash occurred about 6pm on Monday and the FRSC RS7.28 Kutigi Unit Command responded when they were alerted about the accident , adding that the dead victims were taken to the General Hospital, Kutigi before they were handed over to their relatives for burial.

    The Assistant Commander, Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Kutigi branch, Mohammed Sanusi, added: “I was shocked when I saw the way the bodies looked in the crushed vehicle, tears run down from my eyes uncontrollably, may God Almighty forgive them their shortcomings.”

    He said the FRSC personnel, Red Cross and the Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) assisted in evacuating and retrieving the bodies.

    Sanusi said  the deceased were buried in Dasu village on Tuesday.
