  • Fayemi: Buhari’s victory, reward for sincere leadership

    Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on his election for a second term in office.

    Fayemi said the re-election of the President is an attestation to the fact that Nigerians appreciate his efforts at making life more comfortable for the people of the country in the last four years.

    He described Buhari as a focused, compassionate and sincere leader with genuine concern for the overall good of the citizenry.

    He said voters have demonstrated that given a choice, they would readily choose a sincere leader who cares for their wellbeing above other considerations.

    According to him, the victory is a confirmation of the people’s trust in President Buhari and the APC-led government, adding that the President would not take the trust for granted.

    Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, said: “On behalf of my family, the government and the good people of Ekiti State, the Land of Honour, I heartily congratulate our President for this historic re-election as President for a second term.

    “No doubt, it has been a very tough battle, but the people of Nigeria have spoken in clear terms. They have chosen to reward Mr President’s sincerity of purpose with another term of office.

    “Regardless of what anybody might say, the Nigerian electorate has demonstrated a high level of sophistication. They have shown that they have the capacity to sieve through electoral promises and determine a leader that will serve their interest better.

    “The Nigerian people know President Buhari as a honest leader and have, through their votes, demonstrated their trust in his ability to take them to the next level of development and prosperity.

    “It is a new day and a new season and I congratulate Mr President for the victory and the entire Nigerian people for their courage and steadfastness and for their determination to deepen democracy in the country.”

  • Breaking: Buhari wins Ekiti with 219,231 votes

    President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has won Ekiti with 219,213 votes.

    The Returning officer for the state, Prof. Idiwu Olayinka, the Vice Chancellor University of Ibadan, said out of the 395, 741 that accredited to vote, APC scored 219, 231 against PDP which scored 154,034 votes.

    Total number of valid votes, according to Olayinka, is 381,132 while 12,577 were rejected due to multiple thumb printing.

    Total vote cast, he said, is 393,709.

    The party agents are expected to inspect the results sheets signed at the state collation office.

    Ekiti state is the only state without a Resident Electoral Commissioner.

  • Buhari leads comfortably in Kaduna

    …9 LGAs to go, collation resumes 2pm

    All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari has maintained lead in the Saturday presidential election in Kaduna State.

    Buhari has defeated the People’s Democratic Party (PDP’s) Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in nine of the 14 local governments’ results so far collated.

    According to the results collated at the the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Kaduna State headquarters by Professor Bello B. Shehu, Buhari has so far won in Kubau, Makarfi, Kudan, Sabon Gari, Ikara, Kauru, Giwa, Soba and Igabi local government areas.

    Meanwhile, the PDP candidate has emerged victorious in Zango Kataf, Kaura, Kajuru, Kagarko and Jaba local government areas.

    As at the adjournment of the collation exercise around 10:30am on Monday, results from the rest nine local government areas, which include; Zaria, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Chikun, Birnin-Gwari, Jema’a, Kachia, Sanga and Lere were being awaited.

    The exercise is expected to resume by 2:00pmon Monday.

  • Atiku maintains lead in 18 Adamawa LGAs

    The results of the presidential election in three more LGAs in Adamawa State have been announced with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar maintaining the lead.

    Atiku had been in the lead since about 9am on Monday when results of 15 LGAs were released.

    But more results have since been announced from three more LGAs namely Song, Fufore and Gombi, bringing to 18 the total number of LGAs where results have been announced since the collation exercise started Sunday evening.

    Atiku has a total of 349,690 votes from the 18 LGAs while Buhari has 338,926 votes.

    In the latest results Atiku polled 22,648 votes in Song, 16,430 in Fufore and 18,172 in Gombi while Buhari polled 17,350 votes in Song, 29,507 in Fufore and 12,805 in Gombi.

    The Presidential Collation Centre in Yola adjourned sitting to 2pm after announcing the Gombi LGA result with pending results from the remaining Michika, Jada and Toungo LGAs.
