Okoro stated that with the live streaming, constituents can be able to monitor the contribution(s) of the lawmaker representing their area in the House of Assembly.

The legislative aide who debunked the report that the current leadership in the Assembly was on a witch-hunt mission said “It takes a leader who has class and taste, one who is pragmatic and visionary to be able to know what he wants and when he wants it.

“This is 21st Century where everything has gone digital. You will agree with me that just as the Senate and House of Representatives, people now have the privilege of watching the contributions of their National Assembly lawmakers from the comfort of their homes either using their phones or through their Television sets.

“If Abia State is not the first, it is definitely going to be the second among the 36 States of the federation since 1993 when that House was built. As a journalist, you will agree with me that before now, the only time people hear about the sitting of the Abia State House of Asssembly is when someone has been impeached or when someone resigned.

“But now, people will have the opportunity to watch the day-to-day activities of the Abia State House of Assembly. The main purpose of the streaming is to bring business of the Abia State House of Assembly to the grassroots.

“Before now, people think that lawmakers go to the House of Assembly for jamboree or going there to sleep and at the end of the month, they will be paid their salaries. But this time, the Speaker who is media friendly, one who knows that this is 21st Century where people are moving away from the analogue to the digital state

“It will impact positively on the House. The people will be the ones to judge. By the virtue of the streaming, you will have the opportunity to know how many bills that have been passed into law.

“People will know how many motions that were raised and the people that sponsored them. It will help the constituents to know the contribution of their lawmakers and by so doing, help to build democracy in Abia State because the world is following what is going on in the House and there won’t be any need for someone to be afraid, unlike what we used to have before where.

“A lot of people are having suspicion that the current House is there for a particular mission. If the house is on a mission, would they introduce live streaming; where everything going on there is being recorded live.

“If not the cost implication, I am sure that the present leadership of the house would have invited some national television stations to come and cover its activities periodically.

“Members of the public will also be privileged to interact with their lawmaker through a channel that we are going to create soon.”
