  • Anti-open grazing law will enable herdsmen’s children acquire education – Bishop

Anti-open grazing law will enable herdsmen’s children acquire education – Bishop

Bishop William Aveya of Gboko Catholic Diocese in Benue has said that the anti-open grazing law passed by the state government would enable children of herdsmen to acquire education.

“Open grazing makes it impossible for the children of herdsmen to acquire education because they remain in the bush chasing cows.

“If the herdsmen embrace ranches, the children will be less busy with the cattle and have more time for education which is very crucial to a better future,” Avenya told the news men, in Gboko on Monday.

The herdsmen, under the aegis of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), have remained opposed to the law and have vowed to resist it.

But Avenya said that the law would promote and protect the rights of herdsmen’s children usually denied their rights and privileges.

“Nigeria is a signatory to many Child Right charters and conventions that seek to protect and enhance children’s welfare.

“While other children enjoy such rights and privileges, herdsmen’s children are left behind because they are holed up in the hinterland running after cows and getting exposed to the vagaries of the environment.

“It is certainly not fair to leave the herdsmen’s children uneducated because that will denies them the privilege of exploring opportunities in life,” he said.

He argued that cattle ranching was the best option that could provide some comfort for cattle, herders and their children, adding that cattle feeding would be improved at the ranches.

Avenya appealed to herdsmen to accept the law as a panacea to frequent farmers/herders clashes and explore its immense benefits.

He challenged Nigerians resident in the North-East to evolve ways of reclaiming the desert wastelands, and suggested the growing of grasses to help tackle desertification and provide pasture for cattle.

Avenya, however, condemned the killing of innocent people by gunmen, and called on the Federal Government to encourage ranching as a way out of the frequent skirmishes.

The Bishop said that the Church would not encourage reprisal attacks saying, saying that such action had no place in the Christian faith.

“Instead of carrying arms in self defense, we must encourage each other to pray for the attackers so that God will arrest their spirit and purge them of such wickedness,” he said.

  • We must restructure our mindset – Bishop

We must restructure our mindset – Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Gboko Diocese, Most Reverent William Avenya, has suggested the restructuring of mindset of citizens as a panacea to the myriad of problems plaguing the country.

Avenya said agitations for the geographical restructuring being canvassed by many were simply a misplaced priority.

He said it was important for Nigerians to begin to get their priorities right through a restructuring process that involved the mindset instead of the geo-political restructuring.

According him, such a mindset restructuring will enable people learn to emphasise many things that keep Nigerians together rather than those that separate them.

Avenya said restructuring of the mindset would enable people to view issues from the correct perspective.

“We have more things that hold us together than those that  separate us as a people; so, why don’t we emphasise those ones rather than the ones that seek to tear us apart.

“In this country, we spend time on symptoms rather than their causes.”

The bishop condemned agitations for the breakup of the country and suggested an elaborate national debate on restructuring.

He said such a debate would highlight the shared values of Nigerians.

He bemoaned the current state of the nation, blaming the spate of killings in most parts of the country on “a failed state apparatus”.

“We have all failed either as religious, political, intelligentsia or even as a business class. In other climes, all those vested with the responsibility of providing security of lives and property would have resigned for their failure in this regard.”

He expressed regret that rather than review the failure of security in the country, people in authority were adamant and refused to tackle the problems.

“Members of the National Assembly representing the affected communities prefer political correctness in the face of such barbaric acts against their people.”

He accused them of greed, alleging that their actions were motivated by personal aggrandisement.

“Those ineffectual political leaders with a dysfunctional mentality should give way for others,” he advised.

The bishop said it was the responsibility of the Federal Government to ensure the security of lives and property.

He said states were handicapped in this regard and appealed to the Federal Government to take full responsibility of the security in the affected states.

According to him, if the Federal Government will not take responsibility, then the church should seek support for the affected communities from the international community through awareness creation.

“We will create awareness to the carnage and barbaric killings in the state,” he said.

He said the killings in the middle belt states were worrisome and called for an immediate end to it.

Avenya said the church had already mobilised its trained personnel to the affected places to assist displaced persons.

The cleric said the church would always be in the vanguard for the propagation of peace and harmonious coexistence but would also not condone the killings of innocent people.

He called on the government to stop the killings immediately.

Tajudeen said the defendant was arrested for  unlawful possession of the items, by a police detective before he was brought to the court.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 41, 390(9), and 430 (2) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.

  • 30 killed in Afghan hotel attack

30 killed in Afghan hotel attack

An Afghanistan government official on Monday said death toll in Saturday’s attack on the Kabul Intercontinental Hotel has reached 30.

Gunmen in army uniforms had stormed and battled Afghan Special Forces through the night on Saturday at the hotel.

Wahid Majroh, a spokesman for the ministry of public health, however said the final toll of dead and wounded may still be higher.

Majroh said 19 bodies had been brought into city hospitals, with six identified as foreigners.

However, a senior Afghan security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to talk to the media, said the death toll was over 30 and might climb higher.

The dead included hotel staff and guests, as well as members of the security forces who fought the attackers.

Interior ministry spokesman Najib Danesh said all five attackers were also killed.

In Kiev, Ukrainian foreign minister Pavlo Klimkin said on Twitter that six Ukrainians were killed in the attack.

The raid was the latest in a series of attacks which have underlined the city’s vulnerability and the ability of militants to mount high-profile operations aimed at undermining confidence in the Western-backed government.

No fewer than 150 guests were able to flee as parts of the building caught fire, with some shimmying down sheets tied together and dropped from upper-floor windows and others rescued by Afghan forces.

Local airline Kam Air said around 40 of its pilots and air crew, many of whom are foreigners, were staying in the hotel and as many as 10 had been killed.

Local media reports said the dead included Venezuelans and Ukrainians.

Zamari Kamgar, the airline’s deputy director, said it was still trying to locate staff.

The Taliban, which attacked the same hotel in 2011, claimed responsibility for the attack through spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid in a statement.

A statement from the interior ministry put the blame on the Haqqani network, a group affiliated with the Taliban that is notorious for its attacks on urban targets.

Abdul Naseri, a guest who was at the hotel for a conference, was in the hall of the hotel when he saw four gunmen dressed in army uniforms.

Naseri said: “They were shouting in Pashto (language), ‘Don’t leave any of them alive, good or bad’. ‘Shoot and kill them all,’ one of them shouted.

“I ran to my room on the second floor. I opened the window and tried to get out using a tree but the branch broke and I fell to the ground. I hurt my back and broke a leg.”

Even after officials said the attack was over, sporadic gunshots and explosions could be heard from the site.

As day broke on Sunday, thick clouds of black smoke poured from the building, an imposing 1960s structure set on a hilltop and heavily protected like most public buildings in Kabul.

The Intercontinental is one of two main luxury hotels in the city and had been due to host an information technology conference on Sunday.

No fewer than 100 IT managers and engineers were on site when the attack took place, said Ahmad Waheed, an official at the telecommunications ministry.

Danesh said a private company had taken over responsibility for security at the hotel three weeks ago and there would be an investigation into possible failings.

The attack came just days after a U.S. embassy warning of possible attacks on hotels in Kabul.

Several armored U.S. military vehicles with heavy machine guns could be seen close to the hotel along with Afghan police units as Special Forces maneuvered around the site.

Hotel manager Ahmad Haris Nayab, who escaped unhurt, said the attackers had got into the main part of the hotel through a kitchen before going through the hotel, with many guests trapped in their rooms.

The senior security official said that the attackers had moved directly from the first floor to the fourth and fifth floors, suggesting the attack had been carefully prepared, possibly with inside help.

“When the sixth floor caught fire this morning, my roommate told me, either burn or escape,” said Mohammad Musa, who was hiding in his room on the top floor.

  • Armed herdsmen pose security threat, Nigerians in Diaspora tell FG

Armed herdsmen pose security threat, Nigerians in Diaspora tell FG

The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Americas ( NIDOA ) has urged the Federal Government to check the activities of armed herdsmen in Nigeria, saying they pose security threat to the country.

NIDOA, in a statement by Mrs Patience Key, Chairperson of NIDO USA and Dr George Nwogu, Public Relations Director, NIDO Americas Board of Trustees, condemned what they termed the needless and mindless killings of innocent Nigerians by armed herdsmen.

“It is appalling that in spite of the country’s strict gun control laws, persons purported to be herdsmen carry and use military-style assault weapons openly with impunity.

“These highly armed herdsmen pose terrorist threats to all law-abiding unarmed Nigerians and they must not be allowed to carry on unchecked.

“Armed herdsmen’s  terrorism against Nigerians should be condemned by all decent and peace-loving people.

Read also: ‘We lost 500 to herdsmen attacks in three months’

“The continued bloodletting must be stopped immediately. The government should disarm all armed herdsmen as they have no right to carry sophisticated weapons in the guise of shepherding cattle.

“We strongly condemn these barbaric acts of violence by these reckless armed herdsmen and urge the perpetrators of these heinous acts to be brought to book and face justice.

“The continued audacious actions of the herdsmen without regard for human lives and the laws of our land represent a clear and present danger as well as threat to the peace and unity of the country,” it said.

NIDOA asked the government not to waver but deploy all instruments of state security forces not only to punish the perpetrators but to prevent future wanton killings of innocent Nigerians.

It called for efforts to regulate the open cattle grazing method in the country to modern standards that utilise ranches as done in other countries and ensure respect for the dignity of human lives and property.

The group offered its condolences to the people of Benue, Taraba and Nassarawa state as well as all other Nigerians who had lost loved ones to what it termed “wanton criminal acts”.

  • Confessions of A 59 Year-Old Retired Teacher Who Got His Manhood Back & Cure Weak Erection After 12 Years!

Confessions of A 59 Year-Old Retired Teacher Who Got His Manhood Back & Cure Weak Erection After 12 Years!

My name is Mr. John (surname withheld). I am a 59 year old retired Teacher. And this is the embarrassing story of my life.

One day, more than 12 years ago – October 2005, to be precise – I just broke down and started to cry like a baby.

I was devastated. I felt like a failure. I felt like I was going to lose my mind.

It happened that one hot afternoon, I came back home from work to meet something very heart-breaking – my wife had packed all her bags and belongings…. And she had left!

    But… I couldn’t even blame her… because…

    It was all my fault!

You see, for as long as I could remember, I suffered from a serious case of weak erection and premature ejaculation.

I’m not joking at all, it was very serious. I couldn’t last more than a few seconds in bed.

It was so bad that sometimes, I would even ejaculate during foreplay, before action starts.

No matter what I tried, 2 minutes was the longest I could go.

We tried everything to find a solution to this problem…

I used pills. I tried numbing creams. I tried different drugs. For a while I even used some dangerous herbal mixtures. I tried almost everything!

    But, instead of getting better…

    Things got worse.

Then, the final straw that broke the Camel’s back was when I lost my manhood.

My penis suddenly became limp and would not rise again.

Even if you placed the most beautiful woman in the world – naked in all her sexual glory – right before me, my penis would just remain soft like overcooked noodles.

    My Manhood Died!

It was the most frustrating moment of my life.

My wife was even more frustrated.

I knew she had become fed up. That was why I couldn’t blame her when she left.

So for the next 8 years, I lived as a frustrated and lonely, old bachelor.

    But wait…

    Don’t get me wrong.

I’m not telling you all this because I want you to feel sorry for me. No!

There is no need for that anyway.

    My story has a happy ending… because…

6 months ago, I made a discovery that changed my entire life.

I found an amazing way to cure my years of premature ejaculation and impotence – that I never dreamed existed.

To tell the truth, I had completely lost hope of ever getting a solution.

But I stumbled across this solution totally by accident when I was looking for something else.

Carpenter pleads guilty to raping 18-year-old daughter

A 45-year old carpenter, Olumide Akinleye, who allegedly cohabited with and accused of raping his own daughter, is to remain behind bars pending judgment, an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court ordered in Ibadan on Friday.

Chief Magistrate Modina Akanni, who gave the ruling, said Akinleye should be kept in police custody until when hearing would begin.

The lustful father had admitted committing the offence.

Akinleye, who lives in Odo-Ona Elewe in Ibadan, is facing a charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his biological daughter.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Sunday Fatola told the court that Akinleye had a carnal knowledge of his 18-year-old daughter in their apartment.

“Akinleye, who is cohabiting with his daughter in his one-room apartment, raped her several times between September and December 2017.”

He said the girl had confessed during investigation that she confided in her father’s friend about the several sex bouts against her will.

The offence contravened Section 214 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State 2000.

The case has been adjourned until Jan. 25 for facts and sentence.

  • Ebonyi commences sanitisation of ministries

    Ebonyi commences sanitisation of ministries

The Ebonyi Government says it has commenced the sanitisation of its ministries to correct detected administrative flaws in the system.

Dr Kelechi Igwe, the Deputy Governor, said this on Friday in Abakaliki while reacting to the dilapidated state of the multi-billion Naira international market built by the past administration in the state.

Igwe led a delegation of government officials, opinion leaders and market associations, among others, to inspect the facility constructed in a swamp.

“We have commenced the correction of ills in the ministries as it is saddening to have Ministries of Works, Housing and Survey involved in such a ruse.

“These ministries have qualified engineers and surveyors to advise the past government as the project’s erection in such area is one of the worst things to happen to the state.

“It is pertinent to note that if the officials failed to advise government, it was laxity on their part.

“But if they did, it means the government was not responsible to listen to advice,” he said.

He said that the tour of the edifice was to assuage the people’s anxiety over the delay in completing the project by the present administration.

“The governor as a professional engineer will not embark on a project that will not add economic values to the state.

“We have tried severally to relocate traders to the market but they have consistently told us that it was not habitable and conducive for business activities.

“During the rainy season, flood will submerge goods and other property belonging to traders and even drown children around the area.

“We want to assure the people that the era of government embarking on phantom projects was over; Government will never embark on projects without economic significance,” he said.

Rev.Fr. Abraham Nwali, the Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria ( CAN ) in the state, advised the state government not to abandon the project in the spirit of continuity.

“The contractors handling the project should be re-instated if they are willing to complete it but should be made to refund the monies collected, if they are unwilling to continue.

Mr Ugochukwu Akpa, Chairman, Association of Town Unions in the state, said the unions would besiege the homes of the contractors, to let them refund the money they collected from government.

“We will stay by their doors and cry loudly for them to refund the money because it belongs to the entire state and should be utilised judiciously,” he said.

Mr Eze Ogbonna, Chairman, Abakaliki Main Market Amalgamated Traders Association, said that traders would never relocate to the market until it became habitable and conducive for business.
