  • TStv to roll out decoders next week – official

TStv to roll out decoders next week – official

The Management of the much awaited indigenous Satellite TV, inaugurated on October 1, on Friday said the TStv decoders would be in the market from next week.

Mr Ernest Essien, the TStv’s Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure in Abuja.

Essien said the company had concluded arrangement to roll out its commercial decoders from next week after the successful test run of its promo decoders distributed before November 1.

He said that the service provider was committed to making sure that all the intending customers should have their decoders before Christmas.

“We are almost done with our test transmission and we are just putting some finishing touches and hopefully by the grace of God, between now and next week the decoders will be out for sale.

“We are informing Nigerians that they must enjoy their Christmas with their decoders. So before Christmas, the decoders will be everywhere in the market.

“Everything is in place we have done everything we needed to do before coming out and I want to let you know that TStv is still on course.’’

Essien reiterated that the price of TStv decoder would remain at the initial N5,000 with all the packages promised, adding that there would  be additional surprise packages for its customers.

He said that the management had decided to keep the packages secret until the decoders were rolled out.

“We will display all the packages accordingly but the one we can assure you now is that the price will not change, it remains N5,000.

“We are trying to see how we can make it simple and easy for every Nigerian to be able to afford it.

“We are keeping our promises on the channels and all the channels including BEing Sports channels are there with even more other channels that were not included in our bouquet before.

“We have more channels that are coming and the total number of channels will be over 70,’’ he said.

Some of the beneficiaries of the promo decoder had commended the improvement in the number of channels and quality of the programmes.

  • Pep: i and Mourinho are like twins

Pep: i and Mourinho are like twins

Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho have enjoyed a rivalry, in Spain and England, that has at times been acrimonious but the Manchester City manager believes they have something in common.

The Spaniard believes that when it comes to the desire to win trophies they are identical.

“Definitely. In that, we are twins,” said Guardiola when asked, ahead of Sunday’s derby clash, if he was as obsessed with winning as his United and former Real Madrid counterpart.

“They want to win trophies, we want to win trophies.

“I think Antonio Conte is the same as well, and Jurgen (Klopp) and Mauricio (Pochettino), and in all the leagues around the world, the managers are (like that),” the former FC Barcelona manager added.

“I never criticise my colleagues for the way they play. I never did in the past, I will never do it.

“Football is magnificent for that, because every manager plays in the way they play. There are different ways to enjoy football. It’s simple like that,” he said.

Keeping it simple is Guardiola’s mantra ahead of the highly anticipated derby.

Although City head to Old Trafford with an eight-point lead over their local rivals, the Spaniard is determined that his team keep their focus.

Their focus, he said, will be on doing what they have done so well this season — playing their style of possession football.

“The big challenge is to play good, to try to control the start point. It’s hard, because it’s United at Old Trafford. We want to try to play our game.

“The focus is going there relaxed and knowing that if we don’t win the individual duels, it will be almost impossible to beat them,” Guardiola said.

“We will try to play well, to play good football, what we have done, to be what we are. So I would like to finish the game and go to the locker room and feel we were what we have been for the season.

“As for the result, nobody knows what is going to happen. We will try to find the best way to play well and to win the game,” he said.

While a victory would send City 11 points clear ahead of the festive season, Guardiola has little time for the notion that the game could be a title decider.

“Winning, drawing or losing on Sunday, we are not going to win or lose the English Premier League. It’s December,” he said.

“It’s an important game, because it’s United. You can get points and deny your opponent points. But it’s the same for them.

“I am not going into the game thinking: OK, we have an eight-point lead. What do I have to do because we have an eight-point lead? The Premier League is a marathon. We haven’t even arrived at the halfway stage yet.

“There are a lot of points to play for, more than 70. We just focus on the game, and the result, and then after, recovery and then thinking about Swansea three days later.

“It’s simple like that. It’s about going there and doing our game. That is what I want to see from my players.”

  • Petrol scarcity: Normalcy reigns in South-West states – Survey

Petrol scarcity: Normalcy reigns in South-West states – Survey

Motorists in some parts of the South West, including Oyo State, Osun and Ogun are going about their businesses unhindered with the availability of petrol and normal operations at filling stations, contrary to acute shortage of the product in many parts of the country.

A survey showed that the pump price remained stable as many filling stations in Ibadan still sell the product between N141 and N145 per litre.

In the metropolis, there were no long queues, panic buying nor artificial scarcity as motorists still got the commodity and moved round conducting their various businesses.

Mr Kabir Adeoye, an Estate Valuer, told correspondant that there was no fuel scarcity in the metropolis, adding that he just purchased fuel at N142 in one of the filling stations without queue.

A cross section of motorists said the normalcy might be connected to the rehabilitation and re-inauguration of the NNPC depot in Ibadan to a functional state.

In Lagos State, normalcy returned to some filling stations as motorists were seen buying petrol with ease.

From Ajah to Lekki axis, the filling stations visited include Mobil in Oluniyi Olumide in Lekki Sandfill, Forte Oil and Petrolcam in Lekki, Oando and World oil stations in Jakande.

They were dispensing petrol at the official price of N145 per litre.

Mr Tayo Adeleke, the Station Manager, Petrocam filling station, Lekki, said it had opening stock of 60,000 litres and another 60,000 litres of petrol had just been added.

Adeleke said queue had disappeared in Lekki because of constant supply from depot.

There was no queue in most of the stations visited in Apapa, which housed most of the private tank farms in Lagos.

Some petroleum attendants were waving to motorists to buy from their station.

Situation remained the same at Mushin as motorists were buying the commodity with ease.

Mr Kazeem Iyiola, a commercial driver, said motorists were surprised on Tuesday when most of the filling stations were out of stock.

Similar situations were observed across Osun, particularly in Osogbo, where the product sold without queues.

NAN reports that fuel stations across the capital were selling PMS with ease.

Stations visited include NNPC at Ring Road, City View Oil and Gas at Oroki estate, NIPCO at Lameco Roundabout and Mobil at Oke-fia.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Abeokuta Field Office, Ogun, however allayed the fear of motorists and residents that the normalcy enjoyed in the state might be infiltrated by scarcity from other states.

The Operations Controller, Mrs Muinat Bello-Zagi, said staff had begun monitoring and surveillance operation on filling stations in and around the state.

A NAN check reveals that most filling stations were selling fuel with no queue in sight.

However, some motorists expressed concern over alleged report stating that there would be increase in the price of fuel.

But in Ondo State, the queues have started surfacing in spite of assurances by the NNPC of enough fuel in storage.

Nan reports that many filling stations in Akure were not dispensing fuel while few selling were doing so above ‎the official pump price.

Mr Adewole Emmanuel, Acting Operations Manager, Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Ondo State, said there was a severe penalty for any station caught hoarding the commodity.

He said the scarcity and long queues were noticed on Monday, and the DPR enforcement team was immediately mobilised to address the situation.

Emmanuel alleged that some dealers were deliberately hoarding fuel to create artificial scarcity.

‎He, however, warned that strict sanctions would be applied on any erring marketer caught flouting the laid down rules.

“I wish to make it clear that we will apply sanctions to any station caught hoarding fuel,” he warned.

It is also the same situation in Ilorin, where scarcity of the product is biting hard in the metropolis and other towns in Kwara.

It was observed on Friday that many filling stations were closed, while only few were selling the product to desperate motorists and others.

Motorists, who spoke to correspondent around Tanke area of Ilorin, lamented that the scarcity had unleashed panic buying of the product.

Most of the stations in Tanke such as FABB, NNPPC, SANRAB and Bekind were closed; only Junuwad station was operating with the attendant long queue.

A taxi driver, Mallam Ibrahim Oseni, said he had been on the queue for over two hours and had yet to purchase the product.

  • Customs generate N262.3bn in 11 months at Tin Can Port – Official

Customs generate N262.3bn in 11 months at Tin Can Port – Official

The Tin Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service ( NCS ) said it generated N262.3 billion revenue between January and November.

Mr Uche Ejesieme, the Public Relations Officer for the command said this in a statement in Lagos on Friday.

Ejesieme quoted Mr Yusuf Bashar, the Area Comptroller in charge of the command as having made the disclosure while receiving the delegation of the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee ( FAAC ), Post-Mortem Sub-Committee.

He said the 2017 revenue generated by the command surpassed that of N233.5 billion it generated in 2016.

The comptroller said the visit was appropriate, considering the fact that the nation was gradually sliding out of recession and the need to sustain the tempo.

Bashar said that the command had also made significant and steady progress in its core functions in the past 18 months.

He said the various reforms he instituted shortly after assumption of duty include the construction of a training facility with 30 workstations for the training of the officers and other critical stakeholders.

Bashar said that that the command had started reaping the benefits of such training in terms of the volume of revenue being generated and the level of compliance by traders, regarding the fiscal policies.

“We recorded remarkable seizures of cocaine, valued at N2 billion according to a report handed over to us by the NDLEA.

“We also handed over recovered stolen exotic SUVs to Interpol Nigeria for onward repatriation to U. S.

“We also seized a cache of arms (pump action riffles totaling 2,010 which eventually necessitated the recent visit of Mr President to Turkey with other top government officials to see ways of curbing the menace,” he said.

He suggested infrastructure upgrade (road networks to the port) scanners and other equipment, to enhance the output of the service.

Bashar assured that the command would continue to enhance the standard of its statutory functions through commitment to duty  by its officers and men.

Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Dr Casimir Anyanwu, expressed delight over the achievements of the command in the past 18 months.

He also lauded the command for the consistent progress made in revenue generation, capacity building as well as seizures.

Anyanwu said that the primary objective of the sub-committee was to examine, across board, the accounts of the three tiers of government.

The exercise was to ensure that all accruable revenue to the Federal Government coffers is duly accounted for.

He said that the committee had the mandate of the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali, (rtd) to visit Customs commands to ascertain their strengths, weaknesses and challenges.

Anyanwu said based on its findings during the visit, that the committee would advise the Federal Government appropriately.

He described Tin Can Port as a major gateway to the resources of the country and very key to the Nigerian project.
