Woman abducts baby from house-help in Onitsha church
An 18-month old baby boy was on Sunday allegedly abducted by a woman in a Catholic Church in Awada, Onitsha, Anambra State.
The victim, Chibuike Ezechukwu, was reportedly stolen from a house-help during offering time.
The Nation gathered that the suspect had pleaded with the house-help carrying the baby to help her drop her offering, while she assisted her with the baby.
A parishioner who spoke in confidence said the house-help innocently handed over the baby to her ignorant of her intentions.
She said, “She offered to help her hold the child but before she could come back, the woman had absconded with the baby,” she narrated soberly.
When contacted, the Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.
He said Police detectives had visited the scene, adding that efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover the child.
He said, “On the 9/6/2019 at about 2:30 pm, one Mr. Olisachukwu Ezechukwu ‘m’ of No.1 Orakwe close, Awada reported at Awada Police Station that on the same date at about 1:40 pm, his househelp one Ukwuoma Ruth ‘f’ aged 16years went to Church at Awada with his son, one Master Chibuike Ezechukwu aged one year and six months.
“The complainant alleged that during offering inside the church, the househelp handed over his son to a yet to be identified lady who sat beside her and equally gave her the sum of #100 naira for offering.
“However, by the time she (the househelp) came back from the altar to seat, she discovered that the lady had disappeared with the child and was nowhere to be found.”
Mohammed advised members of the public to be wary of the new pattern of child stealing and report suspicious persons to the nearest police station for prompt action.
“Religious leaders are equally enjoined to take adequate security measures at their places of worships in order to avert this ugly trend,” he added.

JAMB releases additional 15,490 UTME results
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said it has released additional 15,490 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results it earlier withheld on suspicion of malpractices.
The examination body said the results of candidates released included those who had sufficiently proved their innocence and those with inconclusive evidence of culpability in malpractice.
According to the board, the decision to release the results followed an expert review of their cases after those affected were asked to upload certain credentials for scrutiny.
JAMB’s Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, stated this in a statement yesterday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He urged the candidates to send RESULT to 55019 to check their results.
“In consonance with the promise made by JAMB during the release of the 2019 UTME on Saturday, May 11, that it would further probe the identity and involvement of some candidates who were suspected of being involved in one examination infraction or another, the board has further cleared and released the results of 15,490 candidates in this category.
“The release followed the expert review of the cases of this category of candidates who were requested to upload certain credentials for scrutiny. At the conclusion of the review, this category of candidates was further classified into five groups: those who have sufficiently proved their innocence; those with inconclusive evidence of culpability and were given the benefit of the doubt because of the guiding principles of the board that it is better for many criminals to go free than to punish one innocent candidate.
“They are to send RESULT to 55019 for their result,” the statement said.

Akeredolu lamented that Akure/Ibadan road is now notorious of the incident, stressing that his convoy ran into suspected kidnappers on the same road recently, but ran into the bush when his security men opened fire.
Akeredolu noted that only those with security men in their convoys such as governor and deputy were now sure of safety on the nation’s roads.

He admitted that lives of travellers are not save on the road, but jokingly said “I have passed the level where somebody can kidnap me again”.
On the increase in Internal Generated Revenue(IGR) Akeredolu said” it has not placed undue burden on the good people of Ondo state, we have not increased tax.
” The only difference is that we have trained personnel who have ensured accountability and proper collection of these funds in all local governments across the state”.
“When we came on board, Ondo state generate N700M as IGR and with this, it can get us to anywhere and that is why we have to put all hands on deck to generate N1.5B for this year and we are still working hard on how to generate it”.
