  • Man arrested for allegedly impregnating, attempting to kill niece

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) yesterday apprehended a 52-year-old man, Dennis Agya Kiyeye, for allegedly impregnating and attempting to kill his niece.

The suspect reportedly impregnated his 15-year-old niece at Ilupeju village in Gbonyin Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

NSCDC Commandant Solomon Iyamu said the suspect confessed that his niece had been living with him since 2013 after the death of her mother in Benue State.

He alleged: “Kiyeye confessed that he had been having sex with the girl since three years ago.

“The suspect said the incest resulted in a pregnancy in 2016, but a quack midwife assisted him to abort it.

“Kiyeye claimed that the pregnancy was jointly owned by him and one Kunle, the girl’s school mate.

“He confessed that the girl again became pregnant for him, but because of shame of incest, he conspired with someone to kill her in a bush.”

The Nation learnt that the girl was rescued by a good Samaritan, who reported the incident to the village head.

The Village Head, Chief Adebisi Olaoye, said the suspect was a man of questionable character.

He confirmed that Dennis was apprehended by villagers while attempting to kill the girl in the bush.

Chief Olaoye promised to provide information during investigation.

The victim said she was unable to reject her uncle’s sexual advances because he would not give her money for feeding and upkeep, and she would suffer.

“My uncle deflowered me. He caters for my needs and any attempt to refuse his sexual advances will result in hunger and refusal to pay my school fees,” she alleged.

The victim implored non-governmental organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to assist her, as medical examination showed that she had fibroid growing with her baby, which might hinder the development of the foetus.

The NSCDC commandant said the suspect would be arraigned and prosecuted, to deter others.

He urged parents to take care of their daughters, saying they should not allow them to live with “wicked relatives pretending to be good people.”
