    NBC reinforces commitment to women empowerment

    Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Ltd has reinforced its commitment to women’s leadership and inclusion by partnering with Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ) for the organisation’s 24th Annual Conference. The event, themed “Own. Walk. Nurture.”, was held on 6–7 November 2025 at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    At a panel session titled “Leading from the Inside Out: Balancing Ambition, Vulnerability & Purpose,” Oluwasoromidayo George, NBC’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, joined other notable women leaders to share insights on navigating leadership from a place of purpose.

    Drawing on her background in corporate leadership and sustainability, George stressed the need to be intentional, strategic, and authentic throughout one’s career journey. The event is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.

    Nigerian Bottling Company, a consumer packaged goods company and member of Coca-Cola Hellenic Beverage Company, has reaffirmed its leadership in driving circularity and environmental sustainability by sponsoring a session at 31st Nigerian Economic Summit  in Abuja.

    The session: “Driving Industrialisation Through Circular PET Packaging: Unlocking Nigeria’s Green Economy,” brought together senior government officials, regulators, and industry leaders to explore how circularity can accelerate industrial growth, create jobs, and power Nigeria’s transition to a green economy.

    Senator John Enoh, minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, lauded the Coca-Cola System for its sustained leadership in recycling and packaging recovery. He described the company’s efforts as a model for how private sector innovation can complement government action in advancing sustainability.

    “In January, I was in Lagos at NBC’s packaging waste collection hub in Apapa,” he said. “That initiative, with efforts like the National Automotive Design and Development Council’s End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation, speaks to the commitment to redefine our landscape, where manufacturing and sustainability intersect, and where industry is not just about output, but also about impact.”

    He highlighted the government’s work to create enabling frameworks that support recycling and green manufacturing sectors. “The 20th-century model of produce, consume, and discard has run its course,” he said. “The circular economy offers a new path; one where what used to be waste is transformed into opportunity, and developmental challenges are engines for new industries.”

    Following the keynote address, the session featured a fireside chat with the Minister and a panel discussion with thought leaders and policymakers, including, Hon. Shehu Wada Sagagi, Commissioner, Ministry for Commerce & Investment, Kano State; Engr. (Dr.) Bahijjahtu Abubakar, FNSE, Director, Department of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, Federal Ministry of Environment; Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, CEO, National Bureau of Statistics (represented by Ms. Christie Umuna, Head, Energy and Environment Statistics Division); Mr. Basheer Abdulkadri, Director, Technical Services, Federal Ministry of Finance, and Chairman, Tariff Review Board (represented by Musa Umar, Deputy Director, Technical Services, Federal Ministry of Finance).

    NBC mulls investment in youths, unveils 2025 youth empowered tour

    The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Ltd., a leading consumer packaged goods company and member of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Beverage Company (CCHBC), has announced the flag-off of the 2025 Youth Empowered (YE) Tour, with Kaduna hosting the first stop on September 29 and 30, 2025.

    Now in its eighth year, the youth initiative, launched in 2017, has become one of the most impactful youth development programmes in Nigeria and across 28 countries where Coca-Cola HBC operates.

    Having already surpassed its ambitious goal of reaching one million young people across these locations by 2025, the initiative continues to expand as a platform for nation building, skills development, and real-world career preparation.

    Speaking on the new edition, Soromidayo George, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Director at NBC, said the programme reflects NBC’s consistent investment in Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.

    “At NBC, we believe Nigerian youths are central to the country’s progress. By empowering them with practical skills, mentorship, and opportunities, we are not only shaping their individual futures but also contributing to the nation’s collective growth. The Youth Empowered initiative is a demonstration of our commitment to nurturing the next generation of innovators, leaders, and change-makers,” George said.

    To make the programme even more impactful, NBC has strengthened Youth Empowered with additional experiential learning opportunities.

    Earlier this year, the company sponsored select beneficiaries to an intensive culinary masterclass, helping them refine their craft.

    Three winners were also rewarded with N1 million each to support them in building sustainable livelihoods in Nigeria’s growing food and hospitality sector.

    In addition, ten other participants were placed in NBC, where they gained practical workplace exposure and hands-on skills to better prepare them for professional careers.

    Since its inception, Youth Empowered has trained thousands of young Nigerians in entrepreneurship, digital literacy, career development, and leadership.

    Participants benefit from expert facilitators, mentorship, and networking opportunities, enabling them to translate knowledge into action and ambition into achievement.

    The 2025 edition will feature interactive workshops, and capacity-building sessions, giving participants practical insights into building sustainable businesses, advancing their careers, and leveraging digital tools for growth.

    After the Kaduna launch, the tour will continue across Nigeria with stops in Ondo, Port Harcourt, Edo, Benue, Niger, Jos, and Delta, building on the 2024 edition, which engaged young people in Abuja, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Enugu, Lagos, Kano, Anambra, and Maiduguri.

    With every new edition, NBC’s Youth Empowered initiative reaffirms its mission: to equip Nigerian youth with the tools, confidence, and opportunities to thrive—ultimately shaping a stronger, more resilient nation.

    Nigerian Bottling Company, official bottling partner of The Coca-Cola Company in Nigeria, is marking World Youth Day by celebrating the resilience, innovation, and impact of young Nigerians transforming their communities and driving inclusive growth.

    At the core of this celebration is NBC’s flagship #YouthEmpowered initiative—equipping young people with life and business skills for  future of work. Since its launch in Nigeria in 2017, the programme has empowered over 60,000 youths through hands-on training, digital upskilling, mentorship, and entrepreneurial coaching.

    As part of this year’s activities, NBC will premiere a documentary that spotlights inspiring YouthEmpowered alumni building businesses, leading change, and shaping brighter futures for themselves and communities.

    Featured in the film is Esohe Ekunwe, who leads Alpha Connect, a community initiative focused on financial literacy, wellness, and civic engagement.

    She credits the YouthEmpowered program with not only influencing her business journey but also transforming her mindset.

    The documentary also highlights other changemakers such as Doyin Ogunye, founder of Women and Youth Empowerment, whose environmental work in Lagos is tackling waste and creating jobs; and Kingsley Oguchechukwu, founder of Kingsman Luxury in Enugu, who turned a major business setback into a thriving fashion brand.

    By shining a light on these stories, NBC reaffirms its commitment to empowering young Nigerians and supporting their vital role in national development.

    NBC empowers 69 trainees

    Nigerian Bottling Company Limited (NBC) has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and industrial growth with the graduation of 69 skilled trainees from the 27th edition of its Supply Chain Academy.

     The event took place at NBC’s Ikeja Plant in Lagos, drawing dignitaries from government, industry, and the community.

    Established in 1996, the NBC Supply Chain Academy has become a cornerstone of technical and leadership capacity building in Nigeria’s beverage industry.

    Over nearly three decades, the Academy has recruited 1,460 trainees, with approximately 920 securing roles within NBC. Remarkably, 94 graduates have risen to senior positions, including one Plant Manager, underscoring the Academy’s role in grooming the next generation of leaders, innovators, and builders for the manufacturing sector.

    The program attracts the brightest Ordinary National Diploma (OND) holders from polytechnics nationwide each year, while also offering targeted skills development to NBC’s existing workforce.

    More than 1,100 employees benefit annually from bespoke training programs, ensuring continuous capability growth across the business.

    The Academy’s curriculum blends immersive classroom sessions with extensive hands-on training.

    Trainees gain experience on mini production lines, work within simulated environments such as driver simulators and safety behaviour modules and have access to world-class facilities including a digital learning lab, library, on-site clinic, and canteen.

    At the graduation,  NBC Managing Director, Goran Sladic, highlighted the Academy as a flagship initiative in NBC’s broader mission to build human capital and strengthen Nigeria’s industrial capabilities.

    “The Supply Chain Academy is just one way we demonstrate our commitment to Nigeria’s socio-economic development. Our investments in technology, infrastructure, and talent are not just about growing our business, but about empowering people, strengthening local capabilities, and embedding sustainability in everything we do,” Sladic said.

    Sladic also applauded the graduates for their innovative project, ‘Smart Traffic Light,’ a forward-thinking solution designed to improve safety in NBC’s facilities by replacing traditional convex mirrors with a more efficient and protective system.

    “This is the type of ingenuity that will define the future of our industry,” he added.

    In addition to the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development,  Mobolaji Ogunlende, other dignitaries, including the Director-General of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), Adewale-SmattOyerinde, and the Chairman of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Adebanjo Moyosore, praised NBC’s role in bridging the skills gap and contributing to industrial talent development.

    Valedictorian Anosike Miracle expressed gratitude to NBC, the Academy’s trainers, and the Ikeja leadership team, encouraging fellow graduates to apply their skills beyond the classroom and inspire the next generation.

    “Success is not always about being number one; it is about being consistent, being passionate, and staying true to who we are. As we leave these walls behind, let us carry the lessons we have learned, the friendships we have built, and the values instilled in us to ensure we pass them on to the younger generation,” he said.

    Nigerian Bottling Company has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable business practice and environmental stewardship.

    It spoke when it hosted Ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, Patrick Egloff, at its new Packaging Collection Hub in Apapa, Lagos. Leading the Swiss delegation, Egloff hailed NBC for its bold investments in sustainable development.

    He describesd the hub as a milestone with the potential to drive environmental and economic impact in Nigeria.

    Welcoming the delegation, Managing Director, Goran Sladic, stressed the firm’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s economic growth and environmental sustainability through investments in people, technology, and innovation.

    “Our Packaging Collection Hub is a demonstration of our environmental responsibility,” said Sladic. ‘‘It is part of our goal to collect and recycle 100 per cent of the packaging we produce by 2030.

     Sladic expressed NBC’s willingness to partner Switzerland, noting its reputation for innovation, efficient recycling, and sustainable practice.

    Egloff praised NBC, noting  the initiative is an example of how private sector investment can align with public good.

    The visit discussed shared priorities and collaboration in sustainability, recycling innovation, and capacity building.

  • Ogun Govt lauds NBC’s effort to tackle youth unemployment

    Non-alcoholic beverage giant, Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited has commenced its 2019 series of the ‘Youth Empowered’ initiative, aimed at equipping youths with basic life and business skills at a 3-day workshop held in Abeokuta.

    The initiative which received commendation from the Ogun State Government for tackling youth unemployment in the country, witnessed a large turnout of over 750 registered participants.

    Earlier in his opening remarks at the 3-day workshop, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Ogun State who was represented by the Director, Employment Generation of the Ministry, Mr. Abdulhakeem Ashimi described the initiative as highly commendable, well thought-out and complementary to government’s effort in reducing unemployment through its numerous programs for the youth.

    “The problem of persistent youth unemployment requires combined efforts of the public and private sectors for any meaningful and sustainable impact to be achieved. We believe government alone should not be left to tackle the issue of unemployment in Nigeria, the private sector has a big role to play,” he said.

    The National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has commended the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited and Coca-Cola Nigeria for compliance and adherence to the standards, guidelines and regulations necessary for food safety and quality.

    The Director General, National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Professor Moji Adeyeye, gave this commendation shortly after a tour of the NBC Limited Ikeja Plant with her high-powered delegation from the agency in Lagos on October 8, 2018.

    Adeyeye expressed satisfaction with NBC and Coca-Cola Nigeria on their continued investment in world-class facilities and upgrade of their production lines in line with the global best practice.

    She noted that the visit and tour of the facility is in line with its role as a regulatory body to carry out regular checks on businesses with a view to safeguarding the health of Nigerians and ensuring compliance to quality and food safety procedures.

    “In terms of relationship with the agency, I must note that the Coca-Cola System (Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited and Coca-Cola Nigeria) has been very engaging, transparent and proactive thereby making our work a lot more easier. I can say that our work has been enhanced not only as regulator safeguarding the health of the people but also as enabler in enhancing the capacity of the beverage industry. We are indeed very glad with the facility we have seen here today, it is a great facility,” she said.

    In his remarks, the Managing Director, Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) Limited, Mr. George Polymenakos, expressed appreciation to NAFDAC for the visit, noting that the support from the regulatory agency has contributed a great deal to improving its business performance.

    “We are grateful to the team for this routine visit. I must state that your role in granting approvals promptly has helped our business operation and performance,” Polymenakos said.

    Managing Director, Coca-Cola Nigeria, Mr. Bhupendra Suri, equally thanked the NAFDAC delegation for the routine visit even as he vowed that the Coca-Cola system would continue to uphold standards so as to safeguard the health of the people and the environment.

    The Director, Food and Safety, NAFDAC, Mr. Sheriff Olagunju, equally commended the Coca-Cola system for all its numerous initiatives geared toward the empowerment of the Nigerian citizenry as well as tackling environmental challenges. He listed them to include the intervention provided NBC Limited for Internally Displaced Person (IDPs) in Maiduguri, effort in waste management, the ongoing youth empowered programme, as well as other investments in the sector.

    “We are very pleased with what we have seen so far. It shows that companies like NBC and Coca-Cola Nigeria are responsible not only in name but in the way they carry out their business operations. As you can see, we have gone round, inspected how those products are being manufactured. Based on our evaluation, we can say that NBC is carrying its operation in line with necessary guidelines, regulations and standards. The operation of this plant is in total compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice Code. I think NBC has demonstrated its commitment to ethics and regulations with what we have seen here,’’ he said.
