The Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), has rated waste management and pollution, energy efficiency at 90 per cent, topping environmental sustainability challenges in Nigeria that requires urgent attention.
NES National President, Dr. Efegbidiki Okobia, who said this during a media briefing on NES@40, announced the body’s preparation to host this year’s 34th National Conference and 35th Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Environmental Society in Abuja.
He said: “In the research on Sustainable Professional Perception conducted on NES, the results showed that it has 80 per cent knowledge-based visibility to both Private and Public Sectors within Nigeria, 70 percent for strengthening environmental policies, supporting businesses with green transition strategies, increasing public awareness and community engagement.

On NES events of interest and engagement, Okobia said, 80 per cent queued for Sustainability training and certification programs, Policy roundtable discussions, Networking forums with industry leaders, environmental awareness campaigns, Research and innovation showcasing events.
“We are building relationships with global environmental bodies for knowledge and technology transfer, skill acquisition, capacity training and research. NES started small, and today, the environment is a front-burner issue. However, I believe NES is well-structured and positioned to unite all stakeholders and provide a common front for strengthening our environmental institutions”.
