  • Bayelsa poll: PDP will win by landslide, Dickson boasts

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has boasted that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would win the November 16 governorship poll in the state by landslide.

The governor alleged that the inability of the APC to produce a validly-nominated candidate boosted the chances of the PDP at the forthcoming election.

A statement signed on Wednesday by Dickson’s Chief Press Secretary, Fidelis Soriwei, said the governor spoke while inaugurating five new special advisers in Government House, Yenagoa.

Dickson said no amount of propaganda, intimidation and financial inducement would stop majority of the people from voting for the PDP.

He, however, said despite the traumatic post primary election crisis facing the main opposition in the state, his party would prepare very well for the coming poll.

He said: “We are, preparing the ground to usher in the next administration, and make no mistake, the next administration is going to be a PDP-led administration in our state. Make no mistake, the Ijaw nation has no room for APC, this state is a PDP home.

“We are the only party that has a validly-nominated candidate for the election. Mark my words validly nominated candidates, that’s what the law requires and the person must be qualified. As we speak, the other side, the APC, does not have a validly nominated candidate”.

Dickson, who congratulated the new special advisers, described their appointments as a recognition of the important contributions they made in their previous assignments.

He urged them to join other members of the Restoration Government to mobilize more support for right causes that would promote the continued stability, peace and development of the state.

The Governor assured that more young people would be appointed into positions of trust in the coming days as part of efforts aimed at rewarding loyalty, dedication and hard work.

He said: “This swearing-in is just a tip of the iceberg. By tomorrow or next, more young people who have already been identified across the various local government areas and other stakeholders would be brought in as our way of broadening the base of our restoration government. It is also our way of identifying young people who need to be given responsibility.

  • JUST IN: Motorcyclists burn buildings, NTA station in Uyo

Irate commercial motorcycle operators otherwise known as ‘Okada’ have set ablaze residential buildings and other property, including the NTA station in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.

They carried out the destruction during a violent protest against the alleged killing of their colleague by operatives of the State Anti Robbery Squad(SARS) on Tuesday.

For several hours, human and vehicular movements were disrupted while the rampaging riders torched and vandalised property, including several vehicles belonging to government.

Our correspondent learnt that the protest erupted as a result of the massive clampdown on the activities of commercial motorcyclists and the insistence by the police to wholesomely implement government directive stopping their operation in Uyo.

It was also learnt the Police went to the NTA station to make announcement that the ban was still in force when the angry bike operators trailed them and set part of the station ablaze.

Enobong Peter Ukpe, a tricycle operator along the Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, where the incident took place, told journalists that the deceased was shot dead by the SARS men trying to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycle operations on the Uyo metropolis.

“He (the deceased had resisted the Police who tried to seize his motorcycle for violating the ban on motorcycle operations in the Uyo,” he said.

Effiong Usen, a motorcyclist from the neigbouring Ibiono Local Ibom Local Government Area, said the protest became necessary due to incessant harassment by the Police.

Macdon also announced the re-imposition of the ban on motorcycle operations between 6:00 am and 6:00pm in Eket Local Government Area following the resurgence of violent crimes in the area.

Imagine not knowing how to spell the state you come from.

But that was what played at the Big Brother Naija ‘Pepper Dem’.

Housemates were tasked by Biggie to celebrate themselves by painting the walls with unique and memorable designs of their choice.

Tacha, a self-acclaimed Port Harcourt first daughter, then designed the wall but she missed out on the ‘o and u’ in the oil-rich city.

  • Four common misconceptions about device batteries

There are many misconceptions about mobile device batteries, with some causing people to do outrageous things in the name of maintaining their device battery. Here are four common misconceptions about mobile device batteries.

Don’t use your device while it’s charging

Using a device while it charges is very unlikely to have a negative impact on your device. It has virtually no impact on the quality of charge the battery of your device gets, unless of course you’re using a low quality knock off charger (in that case, the bad charger is the one most likely to negatively impact the quality of charge your device’s battery gets).

Turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS will prolong battery life

The only time these services drain your battery is when they are in use. Having your Bluetooth turned on when you’re not using a Bluetooth device, or having your Wi-Fi on when you’re not accessing the network or surfing the net, is hardly going to drain your battery. It just pulls an insignificant amount of energy from your device, which isn’t enough to drain it over the course of the day. One of the things that does help in prolonging your device battery is reducing your screen’s brightness.

Read Also; Five mistakes you make while charging your phone

Surfing the net will drain your battery faster than anything

This isn’t the complete truth. Though surfing the net can, in fact, drain your battery over time especially if your internet activity involves watching online videos or doing graphic-intensive activities, gaming is actually what drains your device battery faster than anything else. The graphic engine for most games is a massive ‘energy drainer’ and if you play games on your device a lot, it’s advisable to dim the screen of your device.

You should always charge your device till it is full before using it the first time

When mobile phones and devices were still using NiMH and NiCd batteries, it was necessary to fully charge them before first using them (this was known as the memory effect). Modern batteries are Li-ion and actually perform better when they are not fully discharged (though you should avoid letting them deplete completely). As a result, the best percentage for your device battery is between 50 to 80 percent (which is considered the sweet spot for your battery’s charge cycle that helps to avoid high number of charge cycles, which can over time degrade battery performance). Most new devices are sold with battery percentages within this range, so it’s unnecessary to charge it till it’s full.

  • Gantz leads in final result of Israeli vote

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday received the official final results of last week’s general election, which produced no decisive winner.

The centrist Blue and White party led by Benny Gantz finished with a one-seat lead, taking 33 of the parliament’s 120 seats.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party gained one more seat than the preliminary results showed, finishing with 32 seats, after six ballot boxes were disqualified over voter fraud.

In the wider picture of who is more likely to be tapped to form a government, the numbers of seats in the party alliances backing each candidate remained the same, with Netanyahu holding a one-seat edge.

This is because the ultra-Orthodox United Torah Judaism party, which backs Netanyahu, finished with one less seat than the preliminary results had given it.

Overall, 55 lawmakers from the right-wing and religious bloc have endorsed Netanyahu and 54 from parties in the centre-left bloc have backed Gantz.

Neither candidate is backed by enough lawmakers to form a government, which would need the support of at least 61 members.

Rivlin was set later Wednesday to hold his second meeting this week with both Netanyahu and Gantz and may announce his decision of whom he has chosen to try to build a coalition.

Since the current situation shows a stalemate between the two sides, Rivlin has been pushing the pair to reach an agreement to form a unity government that would include both of their parties.

Blue and White has repeatedly said it will not sit in a government led by Netanyahu, who faces indictments over corruption charges.
