“I’m very happy, let me say I’m the happiest man on earth today, because it’s been a rough year or months for us, we started our rehearsals in January, and today God has crowned our effort with victory, and I’m very grateful for that.

This is the third year we have won consecutively, but this is my second year winning the trophy as a commandant; the first one was won by Cancelor Aderigbigbe Damlola, my predecessor, who has also been my mentor.

The win is for the conference, it’s a testament of extreme hard work for the team, I also want to appreciate my director, Counselor Adegbola Thomas and also the former National Secretary, who is also the Ex-Officio of Lagos West Baptist Conference, Amb. • You will die if you slam me in Auchi – Suleman

You will die if you slam me in Auchi – Suleman

General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has boasted that speaking against him near his church in Auchi, Edo State, could lead to deadly consequences.

Suleman, in a viral video, claimed his followers might resort to violence against critics if someone speaks negatively about him.

“If you want to die and you’ve been praying for death, but it hasn’t come, there’s a way to make it happen.

“Come to Auchi, stand by the front gate of our church, and say something against me. Somebody will kill you, another will bury you, and the third will be doing praise and worship on your dead body,” he said.

This statement has drawn heavy criticism online with many questioning its appropriateness for a religious leader.

Suleman also shared an incident where alleged cultists beat up someone for insulting him and forced them to apologise.

“I’ve had cult boys bring people to me and say, ‘This boy was insulting you, we beat him and told him to apologise.’ I asked them, ‘Who are you?’ They said, ‘You no go like who we be, but you don help us.’ Kindness,” Suleman added.

  • Reminder of the bad days

    Reminder of the bad days

When I joined others in asking for the whereabouts of the Editor of First News, Segun Olatunji last week in this column, I was worried that those who abducted him were trying to buy time to see if the call for his release would subside and they can pretend not to know anything about it.

With the deafening silence of the military authorities on the matter, despite claims that Olatunji was arrested by some men in military uniform, there was the danger of the matter ending as a case of unknown soldiers who could well have been kidnappers acting on behalf of those unhappy with some reports by First News.

Thankfully, he has since regained his freedom, at least for now, from men of the Defence Intelligence Agency who eventually admitted having him with them despite initially denying it when the International Press Institute (IPI) insisted Olatunji was in their custody.

Unfortunately, the DIA did not even own up to top government officials including the Minister of Information, Mohammed Malagi and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu until they succumbed to pressures to do so and reminded us of the days of military regimes when people could be arrested without warrant and would never be found having been disposed in whatever ways.

The harrowing experience Olatunji was subjected to, including being handcuffed with hands and legs in detention is condemnable under a democratic dispensation and those responsible for his arrest and detention must be identified and not be allowed to get away with the impression that they are above the law and can do whatever pleases them under military cover.

How serious was the offence Olatunji allegedly committed that soldiers had to storm his house to arrest him and be flown to Abuja for interrogations? Why go to the wife’s shop and force her to take them to their house to arrest the husband in the presence of the children?

While the aggrieved military men may be displeased with publications by First News or any other media organization, they should not have resorted to arresting him in the way they did and locking him up incommunicado. There are enough legal options for seeking redress that they should have explored instead of taking the laws into their own hands.

How would they have justified their illegal action if Olatunji had died under the conditions they subjected him to? While release him under the bridge instead of their office where he had been detained for days.

DIA’s action is an embarrassment to the federal government which has many persons in office, including the President, who have a history of being committed to ensuring press freedom.

For those who have been indirectly calling for the return of the military, the manner of Olatunji’s arrest and detention is an example of what happens in a military regime when press freedoms are not guaranteed and decrees can be promulgated to justify any military action.

Indiscriminate arrest and detention of journalists was common under the military. Media Houses like The Punch, The Guardian and the defunct National Concord were shut down for over a year and their offices were occupied by military men.

I commend the IPI, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Nigeria Union of Journalists and other groups and individuals for rising to ensure Olatunji’s release and they must pursue this case to a point when the facts of the matter can be ascertained to service as a deterrent to future occurrence.

As the fourth estate of the realm, the media has the role of holding the government and any other arm of authorities accountable and nothing should be done to muzzle journalists.

  • Masturbation: dangerous habit, dangerous addiction

    Masturbation: dangerous habit, dangerous addiction

Olusegun Johnson explores the problem of masturbation amongst young people, highlighting the health and psychological implications.

Masturbation today as in generations past remains one of the most noxious habits perpetrated by young people all over the world. Many consider it harmless and sinless, as they feel they stand no risk of contacting any disease, and are of the opinion that they are in no way committing any sin – not fornication and definitely not adultery.

Online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, explains Masturbation as “the sexual stimulation of one’s own genitals for sexual arousal or other sexual pleasure, usually to the point of orgasm. The stimulation may involve hands, fingers, everyday objects, sex toys or combinations of these.”

A further explanation says “masturbation involves touching, pressing, rubbing or massaging a person’s genital area, either with the fingers or against an object such as a pillow; inserting fingers or an object into the vagina or anus; and stimulating the penis or vulva with an electric vibrator, which may also be inserted into the vagina or anus. It may also involve touching, rubbing, or pinching the nipples or other erogenous zones.”

Masturbation can also be a mutual exercise by partners. This has been tacitly approved across ages, but it is not the focus of this piece.

The primary reason many people ever get into masturbation has been acknowledged to be attainment of puberty and rise in libido level. Wikipedia explains libido simply as ‘sex drive’ or ‘a ‘person’s overall sexual drive or desire for sexual activity.’ Many young men and women therefore get into masturbating as a result of puberty attainment and urge to enjoy sex outside sexual intercourse. Often it is influenced by exposure to negative information, peer pressure and influences from books, movies, internet and the social media. The initial motive usually is to ease sexual tension, but more often, addiction sets in, leading to other problems including health and psychological.

    Dangers of addiction

Online health journal, Vaughter Wellness, states the side effects of masturbation to include “lower back pain, fatigue, thinning hair or hair loss, soft or weak erection, premature ejaculation, fuzzy vision, groin-or testicular pain and pains or cramps in pelvic area or tail bone.”

However, it might seem like most people indulging in this trend are unaware of these dangers.

Emmanuel 24 from Ikorodu, Lagos, confessed that he started masturbating at age 15. “I was not influenced by anyone, it just came up like that.” He confessed. “But presently, I find myself disturbed. I don’t really enjoy or see any good in it anymore. Recently I took a conscious decision to stop it, but suddenly realised I couldn’t. Now I’m 24 and still masturbating.”

Emmanuel revealed that “I often get moved into the act anytime I see a girl in flashy or suggestive wears; and usually, what I do next is go somewhere private and masturbate.”

Unfortunately, Emmanuel confessed that the habit has turned him into a recluse. “I no longer mingle with friends.”

David, 21 who started masturbating at 18 said “I masturbate just to satisfy my urge, and it all started when I attained puberty I watch pornography movies a lot and this has been part of what is affecting me up till date.”

Meanwhile, Julius for whom masturbation has literally replaced his emotion for females said “I started masturbating a year ago. It was first introduced to me by my friends in school and I have since found it hard to do away with it. Every time I indulge in it, it’s as I’m having sex.”

    Doctors on masturbation

Is masturbation a true alternative to sex? Is it really a veritable avenue for relieving stress or tension?

Doctor Onwuchekwa Chinwendu of Limad Hospital, Command, Ipaja, Lagos, in his response said, “To some extent, this is true. I say this because many who are emotionally stressed and do not want to go about meeting with prostitutes, usually embrace the option of masturbation to satisfy or ease their sexual urge. But in truth, masturbation does not really reduce stress and tension. When you begin to indulge in masturbation, it begins to increase your stress level and the need to satisfy yourself emotionally through self-inducement also gets on the high. Inevitably, this increases the stress and tension and gets your body asking for more. This eventually gets out of hand become a life habit.

On dangers of masturbation, Dr Chinwendu said “Masturbation to some extent makes you free from sexually transmitted diseases, especially because sexual intercourse or canal penetration of the opposite sex does not take place. The downside however is that it has a tendency to make one a recluse, as they tend not to socialise with friends.”

Medically, Dr Chinwendu said “It causes erectile dysfunction. I know of people who face this problem as a result of masturbation.

“You can also injure yourself in the process between orgasm and release of sperm because at that moment, you increase your effort of inducement on the instrument or hand on your private part, which can result in sourness or tear. And when this happens, you are exposing your private part to diseases. How clean is the instrument or hand you’re using for instance?

So it may reduce sexually transmitted diseases, but you are at the same time exposing yourself to other diseases.”

Asked if masturbation improves sexual relationships, Chinwendu said “There are two schools of thoughts. In the early twenties, the U.S worked on Masturbation and its Effects on Relationship. While one school of thought says it makes you relate well with your spouse and enjoy improved sexual life and relationship, the other absolutely negates it. One of the negative sides according to the other school of thought is that it can cause erectile dysfunction because you’re excessively over-working your sex organ. It increases your sex organ but also weakens it. Ultimately you will not be able to satisfy a woman in bed. This is the fact.”

    Can it be overcome?

“First of all, awareness is needed.” Dr Chinwendu said.  “Does a victim believe it is wrong? Do they feel that what they are doing is wrong?  When it becomes a habit, it is difficult to stop. For example, smoking cannot be done away with easily. So there should be awareness in schools, in communities and in the media. People have to be informed of the dangers of this practice.

“A sufferer should purposely delete or destroy instantly all those things that induce the practice such as pornography movies, pictures, discs and whatever. I know of a 16-year-old girl with more than 20 pornography movies and pictures, which her father eventually discovered. Imagine what would be going on in such girl’s mind!

“Bad habits corrupt useful habits; if you have friends that are into such practice, cut them off, do not mingle with them. All materials used to self-induce yourself should be done away with.

“Thirdly, this practice largely affects people who are on their own or lonely; so  sufferers should start socialising. When you start having the feelings to masturbate, call a friend and go out and mingle. That way, the habit starts to die and you will gradually leave it.” Dr Chiwendu said.

Dr. Gbenga Adeyemo, a psychologist attached to a government health facility in Ejigbo, Lagos also spoke on the side effects of masturbation.

“First, masturbation is a known form of sex throughout the world. It is the act of stimulating oneself sexually by use of one’s hand.” Adeyemo said

He said “The reason for masturbation is mainly for sexual enjoyment, sexual achievement or means of avoiding unwanted pregnancy. What we hear, see, and our environment can affect us negatively to go into such act. For example, when you see a lady dressed half naked, what comes to your mind first is to have sex with her. And knowing that the avenue is not there, you would rather go and masturbate.

“Also, the friends young people keep or their community is a huge determinant. 70 percent of people who practice this get involved through bad company.”

On the hazards, Adeyemo said “when masturbation is you, you are masturbation; that is, if you can’t do without it in a day, you begin to stay on your own and prefer to do things secretly. Ultimately, it affects you when you get married because you as a male will not last in bed. If it is a female, you will prefer self-pleasing to sex with the opposite sex. That shows there is a problem.

“Again if such person does not have an exposure to sex initially, they want to try sex on their own and when they touch their sex organ, it takes them along.

“Also if you are fond of masturbating, it can become hereditary, whereby your children might be affected too, just like we have Polio, HIV and Laser Fever. We have seen situations like that.”

Said Adeyemo, “What is common today is that it results into problems of quick ejaculation and memory loss or Down’s Syndrome. They may even begin to see nothing sexually attractive in any other sex partner other than themselves. So they create hatred for mutual sex.”

On ways of stopping masturbation, Dr Adeyemo said “Masturbation should not be seen as diseases that you get admitted to the hospital to treat or that you are prescribed drugs to cure like malaria or headache.  First, it is important to know the things that move you into the act and how long you have been into it.”

“One solution is for such person to mingle more with friends. He or she should avoid being on his own as much as possible. They should try to find something doing, that will occupy their mind and take them away from the act.

  • 22 danger signs you must watch out for when using a gas cylinder

22 danger signs you must watch out for when using a gas cylinder

    By Praise Olowe

There have been many cases of gas cylinder explosions and when this happens, lives are lost and properties worth millions are destroyed.

However, there are so many danger signs we need to look out for while using a Gas cylinder.

    Some of these factors are:

    •   Cooking gas cylinders must not exceed five years: most people using gas cylinders hardly remember when it was bought. It is important to keep track of the days and replace them as soon as possible.
    •    Do not buy used Gas cylinders.
    •    Watch out for the expiry dates: The steps to check the expiry date are very simple and basic. The expiry of LPG cylinder can be found on one of the metal strips that connect the body of the cylinder to top ring (handle). It is mentioned on the inner side of the strip. The strip has any of the alphabets from A to D painted on it along with a number. Decoding the expiry date is simple. The alphabet represents the month it expires while the number indicates the year. A year is divided into four quarters :

    A – January to March

    B – April to June

    C – July to  September

    D – October to  December

For example, your cylinder has ‘A 18  painted on the metal strip. The alphabet A represents month March and 18 indicates the year 2018.

    • ·       Use gas cylinders in a vertical position, unless specifically designed to be used otherwise
    • ·       Securely restrain cylinders to prevent them from falling over
    • ·       Always double check that the cylinder/gas is the right one for the intended use.
    • ·       Before connecting a gas cylinder to equipment or pipe-work make sure that the regulator and pipe-work are suitable for the type of gas and pressure being used.
    • ·       When required, wear suitable safety shoes and other personal protective equipment when handling gas cylinders.
    • ·       Do not use gas cylinders for any other purpose than the transport and storage of gas.
    • ·        Do not drop, roll or drag gas cylinders.
    • ·       Close the cylinder valve and replace dust caps, where provided when a gas cylinder is not in use.
    • ·       Where appropriate, fit cylinders with residual pressure valves (non-return valves) to reduce the risk of backflow of water or other materials into the cylinder during use that might corrode it (e.g. beer forced into an empty gas cylinder during cylinder change-over).
    • ·       Ensure the valve is protected by a valve cap or collar, or that the valve has been designed to withstand impact if the cylinder is dropped.
    • ·       Store gas cylinders in a dry, safe place on a flat surface in the open air. If this is not reasonably practicable, store in an adequately ventilated building or part of a building specifically reserved for this purpose.

    • ·       Cylinders containing flammable gas should not be stored in part of a building used for other purposes.
    • ·       Protect gas cylinders from external heat sources that may adversely affect their mechanical integrity.
    • ·       Gas cylinders should be stored away from sources of ignition and other flammable materials.
    • ·       Avoid storing gas cylinders so that they stand or lie in water.
    • ·       Ensure the valve is kept shut on empty cylinders to prevent contaminants from getting in.
    • ·       Store gas cylinders securely when they are not in use. They should be properly restrained unless designed to be free-standing.
    • ·       Gas cylinders must be clearly marked to show what they contain and the hazards associated with their contents.
    • ·       Store cylinders where they are not vulnerable to hazards caused by impact, e.g. from vehicles such as fork-lift trucks.
  • Pension asset grows to N9.58trn

    Moses Emorinken, Abuja

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has revealed that its pension asset has risen to N9.58trn as at September 2019.

This was made known on Thursday by the Acting Director-General of PenCom, Mrs. Aisha Dahir-Umar, during a workshop organized by the Commission for journalists in Benin city, Edo state.

According to her, “As at September 2019, the number of registered contributors under the CPS has grown to 8.85 million while pension fund assets have grown to N9.58 trillion. This growth indeed justifies our emphasis on the safety of pension funds as the bedrock of sustaining the CPS and assure all stakeholders that the pension reform remains steadily on course.

“These modest milestones notwithstanding, the Commission and Pension Operators are committed to actualizing the growth potentials of the pension industry”.

In line with the theme of the workshop, ‘Expanding Coverage of the Pension Industry’, Mrs. Umar, explained that the Commission’s strategic focus which aims to expand access to pension via the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), is also aimed at expanding coverage of pension through transformational initiatives especially the Micro Pension Plan (MPP).

The MPP, which was launched in March, 2019 by His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, is targeted at the informal sector and self-employed who are not mandatorily covered under the CPS.

The PenCom boss also added that: “Enhanced Contributor Registration System (ECRS), which is an in-house developed ICT application which was deployed in June 2019 to enhance the integrity of the contributors’ database, has been integrated with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) database to help authenticate the uniqueness of individuals seeking to register under the CPS.

“The ECRS provides a platform for the registration of Micro Pension Plan participants and is a major step towards the introduction of the transfer window, which will enable contributors change to the PFAs of their choice, in line with Section 13 of the Pension Reform Act (PRA) 2014”.

The Executive Director (Technical) of ARM Pension, Mr. Abisola Onigbogi, explained that the informal sector has a huge potential to contribute significantly to the pension sector because apart from having a concentration of 70 per cent of total workforce in Nigeria, it also makes up about 17 million business and contributes 59.7 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product of the country.

He also stated that efforts are going to ensure partnership with service providers to provide access to basic services such as health care, insurance services among others, with the aim of bringing more persons in the informal sector into the pension scheme as a greater percentage of Nigerians which represent the informal sector are still out of the pension coverage.

“We need to deepen financial inclusion which stands at 65 per cent through mobile phone subscription. There are currently 172 million mobile subscribers, therefore, we need to make it easier for contributors to contribute to their pension account from the comfort of their mobile phones.

“Providing means of identification by enrollees has been a major challenge for us, therefore, we are working with the regulators to ensure that the requirements are relaxed a little too encourage more people into the scheme”.

  • Court remands six Islamic Centre’s teachers

    AbdulGafar Alabelewe, Kaduna

The Kaduna State Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded in prison, six teachers of the embattled Kaduna Islamic Centre, where 300 persons in chains were recently rescued by the police.

The six teachers of Ahmad Bin Hambal ýIslamic Centre were arraigned before the Chief Magistrates’ Court 16, presided over by Musa Lawal Mohammed.

Those arraigned were Ismail Abubakar, Umar Abubakar, Abdul’azeez Adam, Abubakar Muktar, Abdullahi Auwal and Salisu Ibrahim.

Police prosecutor Hassan .M. Malan, who read out the First Information Report (FIR) to the court, said the six defendants were accused of criminal conspiracy, ýwrongful confinement, cruelty to persons and unnatural act. The prosecutor told the court that the police investigation was still ongoing.

However, counsel to the defendants, Sani Shehu Surajo, told the court that the defendants were only at the court for cognisance only because the court lacks jurisdiction to take their plea.

He also tried to convince the court to allow the defendants to remain in police custody since investigation into their case was ongoing, but the police prosecutor rejected that, saying the police facility was overstretched.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Musa Lawal Muhammed said the court lacked the jurisdiction to try the defendants because one of the offences they were accused of was a capital offence, which only the High Court had the jurisdiction to hear.

He, therefore, said because of that they (defendants) will be remanded in Kaduna Convict Prison.

He adjourned the case till October 29 for further mention.

  • Insurgency: Coalition writes Senate President, Speaker over allegations of fraud against INGOs operating in North-East

Following the recent spate of suspicious fraudulent activities involving international non-governmental organisations operating in the North-East, a coalition of civil rights group has written the National Assembly leadership to take prompt action.
The Save Humanity Advocacy Centre (SHAC) and Centre for International and Strategic Studies (CISS) formed an alliance in a press conference on Tuesday to make the plea to the county’s legislative arm.
In a letter jointly signed by Ibrahim Abubakar and Ifure Atifure for SHAC and CISS respectively and addressed to Senate President Ahmed Lawan, the group urged the NASS leadership to investigate the “despicable actions by international NGOs and their local franchise in support of Boko Haram”.
According to the Coalition, the Nigerian military consistently rose above the Boko Haram terrorists but their progress has been hampered by these so-called humanitarian groups, covertly giving tactic support to the terrorist group.
These foreign NGOs offer financial, logistics as well as intelligence support to the radical sect, the group revealed.
In other to halt this ugly trend, the civil organisations, therefore, called on the National Assembly to probe and restrict the nefarious activities of these foreign NGOs.
If not curtailed in good time, the group said Boko Haram/ISWAP activities would continue to fester at the detriment of peace and tranquillity in Nigeria.
    Read the full letter below:
    Dear Senate President,
We bring warm greetings to the leadership of the National Assembly in Nigeria and also to commend the Distinguished Senate President on the sound leadership it has provided since the commencement of the 9th Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Dear Senate President, as you may be aware, Nigerian has been grappling with the activities of terrorist groups in North-East Nigeria, which has resulted in the wanton loss of lives and destruction of properties.
This undeniable fact is such that all well-meaning Nigerians must see to the end of terrorist activities in Nigeria if we are desirable of achieving peace and tranquillity in the country through our actions and inactions.
The Boko Haram conflict in North-East Nigeria has festered for the past ten years since the group took up a violent campaign against the constituted authorities in Nigeria and consequently led to the loss of lives and properties and a disruption of the development of the economy of North-East Nigeria.
Dear Senate President, it is a known fact that the Nigerian Military has been at the forefront in the fight against terrorism in North-East Nigeria, and all and sundry have commended this much in the country.
Dear Senate President, it must be stated in unequivocal terms that the activities of the Boko Haram terrorist group in North-East Nigeria are buoyed by the fact that some individuals and organizations masquerading under various nomenclatures have been covertly giving tactic support to the Boko Haram terrorist group.
These individuals and organizations have perfected the act in such a way that despite the efforts of the Nigerian Authorities in the fight against terrorism, the Boko Haram terrorist group have continued to enjoy financial, logistics as well as intelligence support from these groups.
Dear Senate President, it must be stated that since the advent of the present administration in Nigeria in 2015, lots of efforts have been put into ending the Boko Haram crisis in North-East Nigeria by the display of a strong political will as well as a significant improvement of the operational capacity and efficiency of the Armed Forces in the country.
The Senate President may at this point wish to note that the activities of some Non-Governmental Organisations operating in North-East Nigeria have been suspect in recent times.
It has also been proven beyond reasonable doubt that these NGOs have been covertly giving tactic support to the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist group and this has led to the resurgence of the group operating on the fringes of the Lake Chad Basin region. They have been providing financial and logistics support in the area of food and drug supplies.
Dear Senate President, as despicable as this might sound, the activities of some international NGOs in North-East Nigeria are causing more harm than good, and as such, there is a need for urgent and proactive steps to be taken towards arresting this anomaly.
Their fraudulent activities have continued to fuel the crisis in the northeast region and thereby frustrating the efforts of the Nigerian Military in its quest to clearing the remnants of the Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist group.
Dear Senate President, it must be stated that if urgent measures are not taken to address the nefarious activities of the international NGOs operating in North-East Nigeria, Nigeria might continue to grapple with the nefarious activities of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist group.
It is, therefore, our considered opinion that the National Assembly must not be seen as shying away from its responsibility of contributing to sustainable peace in Nigeria through the instrument of effective legislations that would restrict the activities of these NGOs that have been aiding and abetting Boko Haram/ISWAP activities in North-East Nigeria.
Dear Senate President, the urgency of now requires that the National Assembly under your dynamic leadership begins the process of initiating legislation that would curtail the nefarious activities of these international NGOs that do not mean well for the unity of the country. The National Assembly must act now in the interest of peace in Nigeria and in fulfilment of its constitutionally recognised mandate in the entrenchment of peace and unity in Nigeria.
Dear Senate President, we are consequently by this letter urging you to use your good office to see to the enactment of laws that would curtail the excesses of the international NGOs operating in North-East Nigeria.
Dear Senate President, if the activities of these NGOs are not curtailed in good time, the Boko Haram/ISWAP activities would continue to fester at the detriment of peace and tranquillity in Nigeria.
The urgency of now requires all hands to be on deck, and as such, it behoves on the leadership of the National Assembly under your leadership rise to this occasion in this critical point of our existence.
While we anticipate a favourable response, please be assured of our highest regard.
  • PDP to APC: Your insult on Jonathan misdirected

    Gbade Ogunwale, Abuja

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the invective directed at former President Goodluck Jonathan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) was misdirected and unwarranted.

In a statement Sunday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, the main opposition party said such invective best suits President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC administration.

According to the PDP, the present administration has gone down as the most incompetent and most corrupt in the history of the nation.

The PDP, reacting to the scathing comments by the APC over criticism of the Jonathan administration in a recent book by a former British Prime Minister, David Cameron, in which the ex Prime Minster faulted Jonathan’s failure to act on the April 14, 2014 abduction of the Chibok girls.

Cameron also accused the PDP federal government under Jonathan of grand corruption.

But the PDP said the distortions and groundless attack on President Jonathan was a desperate tactic by the APC and the Buhari Presidency to divert public attention from the recent shocking corruption and fraud revelations in which close relatives and confidants of Mr. President were mentioned.

The statement said, “The PDP has been made aware of how the Presidency has been in a frenzy to suppress investigations and deflect public enquiries from the arrest of President Buhari’s known confidant deported from the United Kingdom for alleged international passport scam and money laundering, as it knows that an inquest will further expose the huge rot in the Buhari Presidency.

“Our party has equally been made aware of how the APC and the Buhari Presidency have been desperate to divert public attention from the administration’s obnoxious decision to further oppress Nigerians by reintroducing tollgates on our highway, increasing Value Added Tax (VAT), electricity bill and other tariffs as well as their despicable plot to sack government workers.

“The PDP charges the APC and the Buhari Presidency to perish the idea of thinking that this unnecessary distortions on the Jonathan administration would bury the demand for an inquest into the Danu racket through which billions of naira meant for the wellbeing of Nigerians are allegedly being diverted to private purses.

“The PDP invites Nigerians to note how the APC had remained silent since revelations that its key leaders and the cabal at the Presidency are involved in the stealing of over N14 trillion meant for the wellbeing of Nigerians”

The party challenged the APC and the Buhari Presidency to speak out on the alleged diversion of the N500bn meant for the Social Investment Programme among other “humongous fraud” directly perpetrated under the Buhari Presidency.

“Furthermore, in trying to tar the PDP, the APC forgets that it is already common knowledge that all the bad eggs that brought a bad name to the PDP have since left our repositioned party to the APC where their National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who also has a huge corruption allegation on his neck, admitted that the party is a haven for corrupt persons.

“More over, the fact that President Buhari can only surround himself with persons openly indicted for corruption, as ministers and advisers, speaks volume of the administration’s posturing on corruption.

“The PDP therefore charges the APC not to think that it can cover its mess by trying to make unfounded allegations against President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP as Nigerians can now see through their shenanigans”, the PDP said.
