  • NSCDC resolves 11herdsmen disputes in Edo in five months

    The Edo Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps ( NSCDC ) says it has resolved about 11 disputes between farmers and herdsmen in the last five months.

    The State Commandant of the Corps, Mr Makinde Ayinla, disclosed this while speaking with the newsmen on Thursday in Benin.

    Ayinla said that but for the timely and proactive intelligence of men of the command, the disputes would have degenerated into bloodshed.

    He appealed to members of the public, especially farmers and herders, to avoid taking laws into their hands.

    He also disclosed that the Anti-Fraud Unit of the command had handled 20 cases since the beginning of the year.

    The commandant said the cases involved N3,596,000, of which N2,030,000, had already been recovered and returned to the victims, while 10 cases were still under investigation.

    He further said that the Anti-Corruption and Transparency unit of the command had so far handled one case with more than N353, 401 recovered.

    He said that the same unit handled 14 cases in 2017 and recovered N657, 000.

    Ayinla reiterated the command’s commitment to providing security for residents of the state by combating crime criminality.

  • NSCDC arrest suspected cattle rustler, two vandals in Sokoto

    The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Sokoto State said it has arrested a suspected cattle rustler, Aliyu Danzuru who terrorized some parts of the state.

    The corps also arrested two suspected electricity cable vandals, Shehu Ibrahim and Abubakar Sani.

    The Commandant of NSCDC in the state, Mr Babangida Dutsinma, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on arrest of the suspects on Monday in Sokoto.

    He said that the arrest of Danzuru who have been on the security watch for long period followed a tip off on March 24.

    The commandant said that Danzuru was popular among notorious bandits and was said to have masterminded numerous cow rustlings in Raba Local Government Area and environs.

    Dutsinma explained that on investigation, Danzuru led the corps to arrest the gang’s arms supplier, one Alhaji Yale, who died after being hospitalised from high blood pressure.

    He said before Yale’s death, four locally made rifles, ammunitions and machetes were recovered from his house.

    The commandant said that the deceased refused to disclose the whereabouts of some AK 47 rifles mentioned by Danzuru.

    He said that Danzuru had named eight other gang members that included Babangida Audu, Amadu Bello, Isa Kusar-Hausawa, Jammu Kusar-Fulani, Basiru Bello, Gyade Dutesen-Kusra, Lawwali Kusar Gobirawa and Salisu Hanci.

    He said all the suspects were residents of various settlements in Raba Local Government Area.
    Dutsinma added that the arrest was made possible by the joint security agencies against kidnappings and cattle rustling in the state.

    The commandant said the two electricity cables vandals, Ibrahim and Sani were also arrested on the same day with electricity cables stolen from installations on Raba-Sokoto road.

    He said investigation on the matter was ongoing.

    He enjoined the people to support security agencies with useful intelligent information in order to track reoccurring criminal activities in Raba areas.

    Petrol diversion: NSCDC intercepts two trucks in Kano

    Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps ( NSCDC ), Kano State Command, have intercepted two trucks laden with 85,000 litres of petrol while trying to divert the product.

    The NSCDC Commandant, Mr Aliyu Mohammed, disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Kano on Friday.

    He said already four suspects had been apprehended in connection with the illegal act.

    According to him, one of the trucks which is supposed to discharge the product at Maigatari town in Jigawa, has been intercepted on Zaria Road.

    He said the other truck, which was supposed to take the product to a filling station at Mariri on Maiduguri Road, was however, discovered at Dawanau on Katsina Road.

    “These are some of the successes recorded by the NSCDC Command in line with its mandate.

    “The command will continue to discharge its responsibilities in order to ensure that perpetrators of this unpatriotic act are arrested and brought to book,” he said.

    Mohammed said the two trucks would be escorted to their original destinations to discharge the commodity and be sold to public at the approved price of N145 per litre.

    He said as soon as investigation was completed, the four suspects would be charged to court for appropriate prosecution.

    He, however, warned fuel marketers to desist from diversion of the product and have the fear of Allah as they would have to account for their own deeds in the hereafter.

    Black marketers in Kano state have continued to make brisk business due to the lingering petrol scarcity.

    NSCDC arrests 30 suspected hoodlums in Kano state — Spokesman

    The Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, said it had arrested 30 suspected hoodlums in Yankatsari village, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ibrahim Idris, disclosed this while parading the suspects before newsmen in Kano on Saturday.

    He alleged that the suspects were arrested on Friday (Sallah day) while in possession of dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, swords, knives and clubs following a tip-off.

    “The suspects were apprehended by operatives of NSCDC at Yankatsari village carrying dangerous weapons while trying to cause trouble in the area,” he said.
    He said that the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution as soon as investigation was concluded.

    NAN recalls that the state command of NSCDC had deployed at least 1, 500 personnel to various flashpoints in the state to strengthen security during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

  • Navy hands 6 suspected oil thieves, vehicles, AGO to NSCDC in A’Ibom

    The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday handed over  six suspected oil thieves with 3,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil and three vehicles to Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for prosecution.

    The Commander, NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, Commodore Saidu Garba, while handing over the suspects, said they were arrested by a joint team of `Operation Thunder’.

    Garba said that the suspects were apprehended with two vehicles loaded with products suspected to be AGO at Ikot Osute axis and a Toyota Camry car.

    “In line with the mandate to rid our Area of Operations of crime and economic saboteurs, the patrols have yielded positive results.

    “NNS Jubilee has stepped up its patrols to ensure a credible presence and create a secure environment for law abiding citizens.

    “Items recovered from the suspects, include a bus with Ex-Servicemen Transport service, with registration number KKN-139XA while that of Akwa Ibom Transport agency s KTE-89XA.

    “Another vehicle recovered from the suspects is a black Toyota Camry with registration number GUA-15 ICA,’’ he said.

    Garba warned all perpetrators of oil theft, illegal bunkering, pipeline vandalism, sea robbery and other criminal activities to desist from these nefarious activities, as there was no hiding place for crime in its area of operations.

    He advised the public to be vigilant and report anyone involved in criminal activities to appropriate security agencies for necessary action.

    “NNS Jubilee on its part will intensify patrol and continue to provide a secure environment both ashore and at sea to enhance legitimate economic activities even beyond its area of operations,’’ he said.

    Receiving the suspects and exhibits, Mr Nkem Ojimba, Chief Superintendent of NSCDC, Ikot Abasi commended the effort of the Navy to reduce oil theft to the barest minimum in the state.

    He said the Federal Government frowned at vandalism, pipeline breaking and other nefarious crimes in the region.

    “I want to assure you that any exhibit or suspect given to us, will be adequately prosecuted and convicted according to the law,’’ he said.

    Speaking on behalf of the suspects, Mr Udeme Ikie, who hailed from Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom, confessed to the crime.

    He said that he bought the product from a tanker and gathered it until it reached 10 litres before conveying the product to Uyo.

    “I got the product from a tanker in Imo state. When I bought the product, I gathered it when it reached 10 drums, we move the products to Uyo,’’ he said.

    He said that this was his first time in the business as he was coming from Onne in Port Harcourt.

    The suspects used transparent polythene bags to tie the AGO and kept in a black coloured vehicle belonging to Ex-Servicemen Transport Service and Akwa Ibom Transport Agency Ltd.
