They posted a photo of Rihanna doing the dance and captioned it: “Hit the GWARA GWARA @badgirlriri, @ghana_boii, @coco_duduyemii, @djkhaled, @brysontiller.”

The Barbados singer was taught the dance routine by the dance group Africa’s Very Own (AVO) Boyz, who also joined her on stage for the performance.

  • Three Nigerians, four others jailed in UK over fake ID documents for illegal immigrants

Three Nigerians, four others jailed in UK over fake ID documents for illegal immigrants

Seven men, three of whom are Nigerians, have been jailed in the United Kingdom for counterfeiting the British passport and allied identity documents to help immigration offenders live illegally in the country.

The jailed Nigerians are Abdul Azeeza, Alfred Adekoya and Victor Ariyo.

Abdul Azeeza,58, who claimed to be  an ex-professional footballer  was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by the Woolwich Crown Court which heard  that “it was at his address” that the factory producing the false documents was found.

He was found with a false passport in his back pocket, a residency card in his wallet and “all the implements of making them on the kitchen table.”

Alfred Adekoya of Kingslake Street, London was sentenced to 40 months and two weeks in custody after pleading guilty to conspiracy to manufacture a fake document.

Adekoya, 47, had been seen frequenting Azeeza’s address and was found with three counterfeit British passports on his arrest.

Victor Ariyo of Rye Hill Park London, acted as a go-between for gang leader Steven Kanaventi, 39,and Adekoya, the court heard.

In a police interview Ariyo, 53, said he was a go-between for “a spiritual service and that is why money passed through his account”.

But he admitted conspiracy to manufacture a fake document and money laundering, and was sentenced to three years in custody.

Luke Nkanta, who acted as a courier, was sentenced to 16 months imprisonment after pleading guilty to possession of an identity document with improper intention.

The court heard that in June 2017 Nkanta, 29, met Adekoya outside the Coral bookmakers in Woolwich, east London.

When Nkanta, of Wordsworth House, Woolwich, was searched shortly afterwards, officers found a counterfeit passport, an order sheet for the passport and a copy of the photograph used in the document. Gang leader Kanaventi was sentenced to 40 months and two weeks in prison.

An undercover police officer had placed orders with him in June 2016.

Prosecutor Lisa Hancox told the court: “Steven Kanaventi is the person who was at the coal face of taking orders and money and then the chain ran from there.”

Kanaventi of Mulliner Street Coventry, supplied the officer with a string of fake documents, including three passports for £800 each, a British residency permit for £600 and a university degree certificate for £200.

She said that in one conversation with the officer, “Steven Kanaventi said he would offer £100 for each new customer that the undercover officer supplied”.

But the documents were not foolproof and the gang’s capability to provide false ID was “exaggerated”.

When a degree from the University of Liverpool was requested, the criminal organisation offered one from the University of London, and eventually supplied a fake certificate from a separate university entirely.

In sentencing Kanaventi, Judge Brendan Finucane said he “had a very significant role in this enterprise”, as a result of being partly responsible for ordering, supplying and delivering the false documents.

Kanaventi pleaded guilty to conspiracy to manufacture a fake document, after the investigation led by the Immigration Enforcement Criminal and Financial Investigation (CFI) team unravelled the operation.

From late 2015 to June 2017, officers unravelled the wide-scale manufacture and distribution of counterfeit documents by a London and Midlands gang who created the fake IDs to help immigration offenders live illegally in the UK.

Some of the items needed to make fake documents, including specially adapted tools for dismantling passports, threads for stitching, paint thinners and laminate, were found at his home in Missenden, Inville Road, south London.

Azeeza pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing an identity document with improper intent and possessing equipment with the intention of making fake documents.

Paul Kanaventi, 37, of Forster Street, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to converting criminal property after he allowed Steven Kanaventi to use his bank account, and set up an email address in his name, and was jailed for nine months.

He said he did not know that the money going through the bank account was being used for criminal purposes, but admitted suspecting it.

Madalitso Majawa, 33, of Ombersley Close, Redditch, was sentenced to six months imprisonment after pleading guilty to possession of an identity document with improper intent.

Restructuring, obvious choice of Nigerians to solve ‘intractable problems ‘- Southsouth leaders

Leaders of the Southsouth geo-political zone made a fresh case  yesterday for Nigeria’s restructuring, describing it as  the obvious choice of Nigerians, having carried with it the most plausible platform that could solve the seemingly intractable problems.

The Southsouth leaders, at a summit on the future of Nigeria in Port Harcourt,River State, were one  in their demand for restructuring and true federalism, establishment of state police, resource ownership and control, and an entirely new constitution deriving its legitimacy from the people.

They said that the proposed amendments of the 1999 Constitution by  the National Assembly did not go far enough to address the inadequacies inherent in the document.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State ,in a keynote address at the summit, faulted the report of the Governor Nasir El-Rufai APC Committee of restructuring.

    He branded it misleading.

Wike who was represented by the Head of the state  civil service,Mr.Rufus Godwin ,said: “We need a better political structure in Nigeria. This country belongs to all of us.

“ Nobody can be better Nigerian than the people of the Southsouth zone. From independence, the task of our forefathers had been to build a united nation, but disunity and violence are now the order of the day.

“The present flawed structure of Nigeria was imposed on Nigerians by the military. Decentralisation of powers is the solution to the problems plaguing Nigeria. We will continue to stand for the unity and corporate existence of Nigeria.

“The people of Southsouth have made sacrifices to keep Nigeria together. We believe in our right to self determination in a united Nigeria. We believe in the obligation to share our resources with other Nigerians.”

IPAC to Nigerians: vote credible candidates

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged Nigerians to vote for only credible candidates in the 2019 elections.

Its Lagos State Publicity Secretary, Malam Shakirudeen Olofin, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos yesterday.

He urged the citizens to de-emphasise political affiliations and vote for only candidates who would move the country forward.

  • Doctor indicts two siblings of defrauding, raping undergraduate

A medical doctor, Dr Alagbe Oyedeji, on Tuesday gave evidence indicting the two siblings — Bright Nwachukwu and Chijindu Nwachukwu — who are standing trial for raping and defrauding an undergraduate of the University of Lagos ( Unilag ).

Newsmen reports that the brothers — Bright, 32, and Chijindu , 24 — are facing three-count charge bordering on obtaining under false pretenses and rape at an Ikeja High Court.

They allegedly committed the offences when they accosted the 21-year-old undergraduate (name withheld)on Feb. 12, 2016 on her way to the University for her medical clearance.

Oyedeji, a self-proclaimed atheist, while being led in evidence by Mrs C. K Tunji-Carrena, the lead prosecution counsel, told the court that he worked at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital ( LASUTH ).

“I work at the Department of Family Medicine and also as a consultant /examiner to Mirabel Centre.

“My job entails examination, treatment and writing of reports or examination findings on victim of sexual assault.”

The doctor told the court he was testifying on behalf of his colleague, who had initially conducted the medical examination but was no longer in the employ of LASUTH.

““I have a report from the Mirabel Centre dated Feb. 13, 2016 from a colleague of mine, Dr Sholaja,  who is no longer in the workforce of LASUTH, he has relocated outside Lagos.

“Being an examiner and a colleague experienced in the day-to-day activities of the Mirabel Center, I’m here to interpret the examination findings,” he said.

Giving details of the examination report, the doctor said:“The examination findings started from when the client entered into the examination room.

“She was found to be quiet, willing to give information and she was alert as well as well-oriented about time and place.

“The gross physical findings indicate that there are no significant injuries to her physical structure.

“Significant findings on her genitalia indicate injuries, there was a focus of injury to the entrance of the urethra.

“The hymen had injuries called lacerations and the posterior forcet had superficial lacerations.

“The doctor came to the conclusion that this examination’s findings which are highlighted are consistent with the client’s claim that she had forceful penetration into her vagina.

“The force in this case which she described happened to be the penis,” the doctor said.

While being cross-examined by Mr Oganihu Nwosu, the defence counsel, the doctor admitted that the complainant never mentioned the names of the defendants as the alleged perpetrators of the rape.

He also noted that the examination had also revealed that the complainant had a genital infection prior to the rape.

“Part of the report said that there was a copious discharge on the client’s genitalia.

“Analysis was not done on the discharge and it was observed that the client had a staphylococcus infection,” Oyedeji said.

The complainant, a undergraduate from the Department of Biology Education, had on July 4, 2017 testified about how the siblings defrauded and raped her.

According to her, she was accosted by Bright on her way to school and was “hypnotized” and as a result, followed him to a house located at No. 4, Odusanya St., Ijaiye-Ojokoro, Lagos, where she was raped by him.

The UNILAG undergraduate alleged that in her hypnotic state she gave the men her ATM pin and N19,000 was fraudulently withdrawn from her account.

She was allegedly further instructed by the duo to go home and steal cash and valuables belonging to her mother and bring to them.

The plan was foiled when her mother noticed her daughter’s strange behaviour and called their pastor and also alerted the police.

The offences contravened Sections 258, 312(3) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

Justice Josephine Oyefeso adjourned the case until Feb. 19 for continuation of trial.
