    Afrobasket: D’Tigers smash defending champions Tunisia

    Nigeria’s D’Tigers recorded an emphatic win over Tunisia in the 2025 men’s Afrobasket, beating the North Africans 87-66 in a one-sided encounter on Friday.

    D’Tigers began the game on the front foot and raced to a 10-0 lead with Houston Rockets star Josh Okogie dictating the pace in the one-sided match at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda in the Angolan capital.

    At the end of the 1st quarter, the D’Tigers had 29 points against their opponents’ 16. When the first half ended, Nigeria outscored the Tunisians, having 48 points while the latter were on 33.

    It stretched to 68- 47 in Nigeria’s favour after the third quarter. By the time the fourth quarter was over, the 2015 Afrobasket champions had done the job, defeating the Eagles of Carthage 87-66.

    15  in camp as D’Tigers intensify preps for Men’s AfroBasket

    The number of players in Nigeria’s D’Tigers camp has increased to 15 following the arrival of more invitees ahead of the 2025 Afrobasket Championship.

    Last week, the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) unveiled a provisional roster for the tournament, with players gradually arriving at camp since the weekend. Full training sessions officially kicked off earlier this week.

    The arrival of Houston Rockets guard Josh Okogie has brought a fresh spark to the squad, significantly boosting morale as preparations intensify.

    Yesterday, Caleb Agada and Ike Nwamu joined the team, bringing the total number of players in camp to 15.

    In preparation for the continental championship, the NBBF finalized arrangements for a warm-up match against Guinea, which was played in Abuja.

    D’Tigers emerged victorious in the tightly contested friendly, defeating Guinea 78–73. The game provided head coach Muhammad Abdelrahman with an important opportunity to assess the team’s chemistry and performance under pressure.

    D’Tigers have been drawn into a challenging group alongside Tunisia and Madagascar, with their opening game set for August 13 against Madagascar.

    The 2025 Afrobasket will take place in Angola from August 12 to 24, with matches scheduled to be held in Namibe and Luanda.
