  • Technology redefining human capital devt, says NITAD

    The Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) has canvassed the integration of technology in training professionals to enhance human capital development.

    Its Chairman, Annual Trainers’ Conference, Mr. Oluremi Ajalogun, who made the call at a briefing in Lagos, said the corporate world is going digital to promote effectiveness and efficiency.

    He said: “Digital transformation is the profound transformation of business and organisational activities, processes, competencies, and models, to leverage the changes and opportunities of a mix of digital technologies and their accelerating impact on learning and development in a strategic and prioritised way with the present and future.”

    Ajalogun said the society stands on the brink of a technological revolution that would fundamentally alter learning, relationship, and the workplace, noting that the response to this must be integrated and comprehensive, involving stakeholders.

    He said to enhance human capital development and boost performance in the workplace, NITAD will hold its 27th Annual Trainers’ Conference (ATC) in September at the Central Bank of Nigeria International Training Centre in Abuja.

    Ajalogun said the summit, themed: “Transforming learning and development in the digital era,” will serve as a forum for professionals and practitioners to brainstorm on strategies to compete more effectively in the digital world, delivering training means, strengthening core competencies and fostering new capabilities.

     

  • NITAD confers capacity building award on Ambode

    The Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) has conferred an award of excellence on the Lagos State Government in recognition of its commitment to capacity development.

    Speaking at its 26th Annual Trainers’ Conference at the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said it is gratifying that third parties have taken notice of the commitment of his administration to expanding the capacities of officers of the state public service for the betterment of the state.

    The Governor, represented by Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson, said NITAD plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s human resources development and management ecosystem.

    He stated that the mission of the professional institute to improve  human resources development practice in both the public and private sectors of the economy is commendable and vital.

    He said: “The Lagos State Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions have long been dedicated to envisioning the future of work in the state public service. In our view, the future for the state public service is heavily dependent on the systematic, yet aggressive development of capacities and the innovative and creative use of resources so as to do more with less.

    “I have always emphasised that high performances have been known to increase in organisations that expose their human capital to development through capacity development trainings.

     

  • How we will drive innovation in the work place, by NITAD

    The Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) has observed a new wave of disruptions impacting on traditional jobs. The Chairman of its Annual Training Conference (ATC), Mr. Oluwaseyi  Kuton  told The Nation  in Lagos  that business models and the expectation of leaders are changing with an ever increasing imperative to innovate and build dynamic work.

    He spoke as a prelude to their forth coming conference billed to hold in Abuja with the theme ‘The Future of Work”. He spoke on the need to train workers on the need to learn new ways of doing things. According to him researches have it that globally about half of the activities people are paid to do globally could theoretically be automated using currently demonstrated technologies.  He disclosed that only about 5 per cent of very new occupations cannot be fully automated.

    He said: “Some of those activities people engage in these days as work were not existing years back. It is therefore pertinent to focus now on what the future of work will be for effective preparation and enhanced productiveness”.

    Kuton advised organizations that to be future-ready, companies need to embrace a new type of culture that empowers employers to find innovative ways to drive impact. According to him the future of work provides a helpful roadmap to engage the workplace of a new generation.

    He further canvassed that with market shifting along social, economic and technological lines, organizations and leaders need new strategies to inspire and motivate their most valuable asset which incidentally is their people.

    The chairman of the ATC said the ‘Future of Work’, provides valuable insights that will help organizations seize opportunities in this rapidly changing landscape, transforming a possible vulnerability into a competitive strength.

    NITAD 2nd Vice President Mr. Olasunkade M. Azeez speaking on the need for government and the private to invest in education noted that without sound education no economy will grow and be competitive.

    He stressed the need for all stakeholders in the economy to optimize what they have in terms of funding, regretting that the citizens are suffering in the midst of plenty.

  • NITAD to fill skills gap with technical, soft skills

    he Nigerian Institute of Training & Development (NITAD) has trained and inducted over 6,000 members.

    Its President, Mrs. Janet Jolaoso, said the training has taken a lot of youths out of  the unemployment market and also aided graduates of universities and other higher institutions to acquire soft skills to be entrepreneurs and employers of labour.

    She spoke at the Special Induction Ceremony, which is the 22nd edition in the series of the institute’s induction programmes and the second Postgraduate Diploma in Training and Development Graduation Ceremony in Lagos, over the weekend.

    She said the institute, which has not been  chartered awaits approval from the National Assembly and has begun the Mandatory Continuous Professional Education (MCPE) programme for individuals, corporate members.

    Efforts are also on to embark on re-certification exercise of its members including the introduction of professional licences.

    Earlier, Chairman, Annual Conference Trainers Conference, Mr. Oluwaseyi Kuton, said the institute was collaborating with both the Lagos and Ogun states’  Ministry of Education to enroll secondary school students and encourage them to identify their interests and horn their skills through technical education.

    According to him, students are encouraged to identify their passion and pursue it.

    Kuton regretted the identifiable educational and skill gaps in the education system, noting that the economy cannot grow with the teeming number of unemployed graduates that are not equipped for the market place.

    He suggested that since there are limited jobs, school leavers should be trained in soft skills to make them successful entrepreneurs and employers of labour including training in character and attitude to work.

    Kuton encouraged those who already have skills to enroll with NITAD to enhance their skills as the market place is limited and highly competitive.

    For the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor Kayode, there is a need for school leavers to identify their special skills while acquiring additional ones.

    He reiterated the need for people to have extra skills in order to stand out and be employers of labour.

    Kayode disclosed that NITAD was collaborating with some state governments to train young school leavers in skills that will enable them stand out in the market place.

    A graduand, Ms Regina Orumbie, said the training has given her an edge and made her a better document controller and trainer in the education sector where she works.

    For Adeyemi Joseph, though the training was rigorous, it taught him various learning strategies and development methodologies.

    According to him, the various skills acquired will enable him train others and also improve his profitability.

  • NITAD gets new council

    The Nigerian Institute of  Training and Development (NITAD) has held its eighth induction ceremony, where a new President and Chairman of Council emerged to effectively guide the affairs of the body.

    At a colourful ceremony, which took place at the banquet hall of Sheraton Hotel in Lagos, Mrs Janet Kofoworola  Jolaoso, a Fellow of institute, was decorated as the new President and Chairman of Council of the body.

    At the event, the new Chairman was severally described as a world-class trainer, a consummate human resource practitioner, a scientist of note, a seasoned educationist and versatile mindset change agent.

    She also has with her three decades of senior management role across sectors of the Nigerian economy. A member of many other professional bodies, she joined the institute in 1994 and was elected on April 7, 2016 along with other council members and chairmen of committees for the institute.

    In her acceptance speech, she promised to elicit and optimally harness the members’ potential, talent, treasure and time to take the institute to the next level through the combined efforts of members with an eight-point agenda she enumerated at the event.

  • Lagos NITAD holds annual conference

    The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Training and Development will be holding its annual training conference at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Badagry, between May 3 and 5.

    While speaking to newsmen in Lagos during the week, the chapter’s Annual Training Conference Chairman, Mr Haruna Benson, said this year’s 3-day conference will be an opportunity to gather together professionals, consultants, scholars, trainers and opinion leaders to discuss as change agents, the opportunities of changing the Nigerian society.

    “As catalysts of change for the sustaining development and sustenance of our values, it is our duty to stop the continuous eroding of core values in our society. We need to re-haul the value system, re-orientate and create new skills training opportunities for our unemployed graduates and share among ourselves the best ways of handling the issue of whistle blowing which is much needed right now to eradicate corruption in our society,” he said.

    The state chapter chairman, Mr Seyi Kuto, also while buttressing Mr Benson’s speech, added that ASCON as a venue for this year’s conference will give participants an opportunity to discuss and interact in a serene environment, as the conference has been designed to include visits to tourism attractions around Badagry.

    NITAD holds training conference Sept 8

    The Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) has declared support for the Federal Government’s efforts to develop human capacity in the country.

    That is why the 23rd Annual Trainers’ Conference of the institute coming up in Calabar from September 8 to10, will focus on talent management.

    Speaking on the upcoming conference scheduled to hold at Monty Suites, Northern Industrial Layout, Calabar, Chairman of the conference planning committee, Mr Laolu Oguntuyi, said the theme of the programme, “Emerging trends in talent management”, was a testament to the institute’s determination to stay true to its mandate of promoting human capital development.

    The Second Vice President, Mrs Janet Jolaoso, said the review of the curriculum to include acquisition of vocational and entrepreneurial skills from basic education level, would enable proper talent management early in life.

    The First Vice President of the institute, Rev Tunde Salawu, said the Buhari administration’s recognition of the need to groom the right talents to serve in the right positions was in order.

    He urged the government to provide a conducive environment for talents to excel locally to discourage brain drain.

    “The emerging trend in talent management is to develop people and make them useful locally. I hope the current administration will work to make the economy vibrant so they can stay.  Many people abroad want to come back home but because the environment they are in is better, they stay put.  But as our economy improves, many will be encouraged to stay,” he said.

    Keynote speaker at the conference will be Mr Ezekiel Gomos, CEO, Jos Business School. Other speakers include: Mr Louis Ijenwa, and Mr Solomon Avbikoro, who will speak on “Role of learning and development in talent management.”

    Mr Oguntuyi said participants would learn from the experts; all they need to know about hiring, retention, training, competency management, succession planning, among others.

    He added that the event would  provide a platform for networking with other human resource professionals, as well as an opportunity to visit tourist attractions in Calabar.

     

  • NITAD holds learners’ forum

    The Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) will hold its annual Learners’ Forum on Thursday, June 4 at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja.

    The Chairman, Learning and Development Committee, Mr. Patrick Oluyide said this year’s theme: “Education in the National Development Plan: Challenges and the Way Forward” is prompted by the poor implementation of the education policy which affects the standard of education in Nigeria.

  • NITAD to honour Aregbesola, Aliyu, Obi, Shema

    The 21st edition of the Annual Trainers’ Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) with the theme, “Learning and Development: A Tool for Developing Future Workforce” holds between August 20 and 22 in Abuja.

    The nation’s foremost learning and development institute has admitted four governors into the body of the institute’s honorary fellowship. They are Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola of the Osun State, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State, Mr. Peter Obi of Anambra State and Sarkin Yakin Hausa, Barrister Shehu Shema of Kastina State.

    The prestigious award, according to Mr. Soji Akinyemi, the Public Relations Officer of the institute, will be conferred on the recipients at a gala nite slated for Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja.

    Dignitaries from the fields of learning and development and other areas of human endeavour will grace the occasion.
