Over 12 million rice farmers in the country have jointly contributed money to provide nomination form for President Muhammad Buhari.

This was disclosed in Birnin Kebbi by the National President of the Association Alhaji Aminu Goronyo during a courtesy call on Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

The National President who led other National and State Officials of the association on the visit explained that they decided to pay homage to him in his capacity as the Chairman Presidential Task Force on Rice and Wheat Production in Nigeria and Vice Chairman National Food Security Council, to lead them to President Buhari to deliver the form.

Alhaji Aminu Goronyo was grateful to President Buhari and Governor Bagudu for encouraging rice production in the country which significantly reduced rice importation.

He recalled that Governor Bagudu recently led members of RIFAN to the Presidential Villa to present membership card to President Buahri.

In response, Governor of Bagudu welcomed the gesture by rice farmers to procure nomination form for President Buhari.

He commended Farmers Association for mobilizing its members nation-wide to embark on massive rice production.
Senator Bagudu commended Buhari for giving Rice and Wheat Farmers necessary financial support and input to sustain cultivation.

The Governor said a date will soon be fixed for members representing all the states to converge on Abuja to present the nomination form to President Buhari.

He announced that Kebbi State Government would distribute castro-oil to youths in the state which served as lubricant for electricity transformer as well as begin honey production for sale to pharmaceutical industry for economic empowerment of youths and the public.

  • Why I didn’t buy APC nomination form, by Obaseki

A former Managing Director of Daar Communications, Dr. Osaro Agbonifo Obaseki has said that he refused to pay N5.5m for the nomination and expression of interest form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because results of the primary have been ‘arranged’.

Dr. Obaseki, who announced his withdrawal from the governorship race in Benin City, the state capital, said he would contest the governorship election in another party.

He refused to name the party as according to him, he was still consulting.

Obaseki insisted that he has lost faith in the process, adding that it was obvious that the outcome was already predetermined.

The former university lecturer said he stumbled on a document that detailed how the primary would be conducted to favour a particular candidate.

Obaseki said: “I have lost faith in the primary process. Unfortunately I was in Abuja on Thursday and I stumbled into a document that I cannot divulge to the public for security reasons that makes it obviously clear that all those who are buying or who have bought their forms to contest the primaries of the APC are wasting their time.”

“As an academic and someone who is guided by thesis antithesis and syntheses, I elected to withdraw my intention to contest the primaries of the APC, I will not tell you that I am no longer a member of the APC but I am more interested in being an E.D.O. (Empower, Develop and Opportunities) man than an APC man.

He added: “I will rather be an Edo man than being a PDP. I am not running for the election as an APC candidate anymore. I am running for the election as Edo candidate on September 10.

“I have, therefore, elected upon wide consultations with my immediate and extended family, supporters, friends and well wishers, not to pay the unwholesome of N5,500,000 for the expression of interest, and nomination forms of the APC”

He also said the primary would be the most expensive in the history of the state, alleging that the about 3,000 delegates would be bribed with N200,000.

  • Yahaya Bello fills nomination form as APC candidate for Kogi poll

Yahaya Bello fills nomination form as APC candidate for Kogi poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has given its Kogi State governorship nomination form to its new candidate, Mr. Yahaya Bello, to fill.

The development may have foreclosed the consideration of any other candidate as the party’s standard bearer.

Bello filled the form, which was signed by a Commissioner of Oath. It was returned to the APC National Secretariat.

It was learnt that the form was attached to the letter of nomination, which the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, sent to INEC on Friday.

The party retained Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as running mate – a position Faleke rejected, insisting on the mandate the people gave the late Abubakar Audu/Faleke ticket.

A top officer of the party said: “We are in receipt of many petitions but it is already late for anybody because we have nominated Yahaya Bello as the party’s substitute for  Prince Abubakar Audu.

“Of course, we have automatically retained Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as our deputy governorship candidate.

“As a matter of fact, we gave the nomination form to Bello to fill on Friday and we have duly submitted all relevant documents to INEC.

“You can direct further enquiries to INEC and Bello, who is now our candidate.”

It was gathered that APC rushed to give the form to Bello, despite the fact that it has up till December 1, to pre-empt legal action especially court injunction.

A member of the NWC said: “We hastily concluded the nomination process to stave off any court injunction which may hinder the party’s chances for the supplementary poll on December 5.

“We took advantage of Friday to seal the process because any of the aggrieved parties could rush to court before Tuesday and allow the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to emerge winner of the Kogi Governorship Election on a platter of gold.

“If we do not check the dirty war over the substitution of our candidate, APC may be the ultimate loser.”

When contacted, a media aide to Bello said: “It is true that our principal has filled the governorship nomination form as presented to him by APC and we are aware that the form has been submitted.”

A source in INEC also confirmed the submission of the form. “Yes, it has been submitted,” he said pleading not to be quoted.

The FCT Indigene and Geo-Political Leaders Forum, while presenting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nomination form to Aduda, said they did it because of his remarkable performance since assumption of office as FCT senator.

The chairman of the forum, Ambassador Ayuba Ngbako, said they jointly took the decision after due consultation with different stakeholders on who will represent them effectively and they came up with a second tenure decision for Senator Aduda as the best among others.

“This decision was not my own idea, but a collective one from all of us in the FCT. I have also seen what he has done for our people. In fact, he has made us proud, he has work with President Goodluck Jonathan for us and has brought the dividend of democracy to our door step,” Ngbako said.

He also counselled the FCT PDP executives to be fair and provide a level playing field for all aspirants that will be going for primary under the party.

However, Senator Aduda who has gotten approval from his people to run for second term in the Senate, expressed gratitude to residents of Abuja and the FCT political leaders for purchasing the nomination form for him.
