    Soludo’s wife empowers over 26,000 elderly, supports children, PWDs in Anambra

    Wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has distributed free multivitamin supplements to more than 26,000 elderly persons in the state to promote healthy aging.

    The gesture, carried out under her Healthy Living Initiative, also included lifetime scholarships for brilliant but indigent children.

    Briefing journalists in Awka on Monday, Commissioner for Health and Coordinator of the Initiative, Dr. Afam Obidike, revealed that 1,000 persons with disabilities were enrolled free of charge into the State Health Insurance Scheme, ensuring equity and inclusiveness.

    As the Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) Ambassador appointed by a malaria consortium, Dr. Soludo further distributed over 3.8 million free ITNs to households, raising usage from 27 percent to 57 percent across the state.

    Obidike also noted that, for the first time, Dr. Soludo secured a strategic partnership with Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, unlocking new opportunities for thousands of Anambra residents.

    He said over 6000 applicants across the 21 local government areas of the state were captured under the skilled women training programme on special skills mainly dominated by male.

    Describing the achievements as not abstract or promises, but real, measurable and verifiable, the Commissioner said the feats touched all categories of individuals including mothers, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities.

    He said, “From inception, Her Excellency has consistently demonstrated that the health and wellbeing of Ndi Anambra must remain a top priority.

    “Today, we are here to present the tangible results that have touched lives and are already making measurable impact across the State.

    “Thousands of women have benefited from free cervical cancer screening and treatment, giving hope where there was despair.

    “Children born with cleft lips and palates now smile with dignity, thanks to free corrective surgeries.

    “Our state has witnessed statewide free vaccination campaigns against Rotavirus, Measles, and Polio, safeguarding the future of our children.

    “Over 14,000 Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap have been distributed to malnourished children across PHCs, with recovery rates surpassing 50 per cent.

    “Anti-shock garments are now available to save mothers from preventable deaths during childbirth.

    “Pad banks in over 350 secondary schools, girls no longer have to miss classes due to menstrual challenges, ensuring menstrual dignity.

    “The First Lady has reached out through orphanages and special homes visitation, showing compassion to the most vulnerable.

    “Community youth engagements in all the LGA have inspired thousands of young people to live healthy and productive lives.”

    Anambra’s Nonye Soludo wins humanitarian First Lady Award 2025

    The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has emerged as the winner of the 2025 Humanitarian First Lady of the Year Award, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to healthcare advocacy and child support.

    The award was presented at the Nigerian Humanitarian Awards & Magazine ceremony held on Friday night at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

    The prestigious event brought together humanitarian leaders, policymakers, innovators, and philanthropists from across Nigeria to celebrate individuals and institutions making transformative impacts in society.

    Dr. Soludo was singled out for her relentless efforts through her flagship initiative, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, a programme that has become a household name in Anambra State, championing healthy lifestyles, community fitness, maternal and child healthcare, and social support for vulnerable children.

    In her acceptance speech, Dr. Soludo described the award as a special recognition of consistency and teamwork, noting that her success is tied to the passion and commitment of everyone who identifies with her vision.

    “I couldn’t be any less grateful for the grace of consistency and support. Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo has come to stay. For each laurel and accolade that comes our way, we take them in the manner of greater expectations. This one is special,” she said.

    She further dedicated the award to her Healthy Living family and to the children of Anambra State, many of whom have benefitted from her programmes.

    “To all of you who come out each Saturday morning to work out with me and to all the beautiful children in Anambra whose life and future have been reassured by what we do—this is for you. You are the pride of what we do!” she added.

    Speaking at the ceremony, the Founder of the Nigerian Humanitarian Awards & Magazine, Mr. Emmanuel Anabueze, commended Dr. Soludo for her visionary approach to public service.

    He noted that her interventions have gone beyond ceremonial roles to creating lasting humanitarian value, especially in the areas of preventive healthcare, nutrition awareness, and child development.

    “What Dr. Nonye Soludo has achieved in Anambra State is a model for the nation. She has shown that when leaders use their platforms to champion the well-being of citizens, especially women and children, the results are profound and lasting. Tonight, we celebrate her not just as a First Lady, but as a humanitarian whose work is touching lives in real and measurable ways,” Anabueze stated.

    Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, yesterday began charity visit to orphanage and welfare homes to celebrate Christmas with the children and caregivers.

    Speaking on her motivation, she said there was the need to show kindness to the underprivileged children and adults to give them a sense of belonging and show them love.

    Some of the orphanage and welfare homes visited are St. Martin’s Community Children/Welfare Home, Igboukwu, Blessed-Nise Community Children’s Home in Nise and Model Community Children’s Home, Ifite-Awka.

    Others are God’s Care School for Special Needs and Faith Community Children’s Home, both in Awka.

    At St. Martin’s Community Children/Welfare Home in Igboukwu, her first port of call, Soludo said Christmas is a period to reach out to those who are often forgotten by the society.

    According to her, Christmas will lose its essence, if the language of love and kindness is abandoned.

    “This kind of visit is so dear to me because Christmas season is about celebrating with the underprivileged and putting smiles on their faces.

    “I want to appeal to our people to extend a hand of compassion and kindness to those around them who do not have.

    “I believe that humanity will be better when everyone feels loved and protected,” he said.

    Soludo said she would visit every private, public and mission-owned children and welfare homes in the state before the Christmas celebration.

    She thanked the caregivers for their love, sacrifices and commitment to the growth of the children.

    The Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, Most Rev. Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, urged well-meaning individuals to show love to orphans and the vulnerable in the society.

    He said ignoring or failure to support orphans and vulnerable children would further expose them to vices.

    He thanked the governor’s wife for setting the right example as the mother of the state and a woman who lived by the virtue of kindness.
