Northern elders: apprehend foreign invasion agitators

Northern Progressive and Advancement Forum has  called on  Department of Security Services (DSS) and Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to apprehend Nigerians agitating for foreign invasion.

Spokesperson, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, on behalf of the group, said in Birnin Kebbi that freedom of information and political differences should not be a ground for treasonous statements.

He said some notable politicians, mostly from Zamfara and other parts of the North who benefit from political positions engage on the call just because of the political difference and hatred.

According to him, those agitators were focusing on Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, undermining his archievements and success in his capability as minister.

‘’A highly placed politician from Zamfara bedevilled with security challenges ought to proffer proper solutions to the lingering situation not to fuel it.

‘’We are aware that when Matawalle was state governor, he removed a relative to the agitator because the dethroned person turbaned a bandit kingpin,’’ he said.

The group considered such utterances as inimical to the nation’s progress as Matawalle is legitimately occupying a government position with Presidential approval and working for Nigerians.

‘’Our group lauded President Bola Tinubu on bestowing Matawalle with responsibilities and success in the fight against security challenges,’’ he said.

The group further applauded Matawalle’s success in rescuing Maga school girls in Kebbi and other school girls in Chibok, Dapchi and Yauri incidents.

Yusuf praised Tinubu, the  military on the success made in  countering insurgency and other crimes.

The group called on northerners to unite and face their challenges using all the opportunities of socioeconomic growth and peaceful co-existence.

Northern elders mourn Niger flood victims, urges FG to act swiftly on relief materials

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic flood disaster in Niger State, which has claimed over 160 lives and caused the destruction of infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods worth billions of naira.

In a condolence message issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Professor Abubakar Jika Jiddere, the forum extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families, as well as the Government and people of Niger State.

NEF called on the federal government to take urgent and comprehensive action to support victims, including the immediate deployment of relief materials, access to medical and psychosocial care, and the restoration of essential services in affected communities.

The forum also raised alarm over the recurring nature of such disasters, pointing to climate change, poor urban planning, weak environmental management, and inadequate disaster preparedness as root causes that must be urgently addressed to prevent future tragedies.

Jiddere said, “The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones, and to the people and Government of Niger State, following the tragic and catastrophic flood disaster that has claimed the lives of over 160 citizens and resulted in the destruction of homes, livelihoods, and critical infrastructure worth billions of naira

“This painful tragedy is not an isolated event. It echoes similar devastating floods that swept through several parts of Northern Nigeria in the past year, highlighting an alarming trend of recurrent natural disasters that continue to inflict severe humanitarian and socio-economic consequences on affected communities.

“The Forum is profoundly concerned by the recurring nature of these flood incidents, which reflect not only changing climate patterns but also systemic challenges in the areas of urban planning, environmental management, and disaster preparedness. The loss of so many lives and the scale of destruction witnessed in Niger State demand a robust, coordinated, and sustained response at the highest levels of government.”

NEF stressed that such intervention should be undertaken in close collaboration with the Niger State Government to ensure effective coordination, proper targeting of aid, and long-term recovery planning.

The forum urged the Federal Government to commission a thorough investigation into the causes and contributing factors behind the flooding.

Jiddere added; “This should involve expert assessments of water management infrastructure, drainage systems, land use practices, and emergency response mechanisms. The outcome of such an investigation must inform the development of a national flood mitigation strategy tailored to the specific vulnerabilities of Northern Nigeria.

“To avert future disasters of this magnitude, NEF recommends urgent investment in modern flood control systems, rehabilitation and expansion of existing drainage networks, reinforcement of riverbanks, and the establishment of early warning systems. Additionally, there must be a commitment to public education and community-level preparedness, particularly in flood-prone areas.

“The Northern Elders Forum stands in solidarity with the victims of this tragedy and reaffirms its commitment to advocating for policies and actions that protect the lives, dignity, and welfare of all Nigerians.”

JUST IN: Northern elders affirm rejection of tax reform bill

The Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), on Saturday, November 23, reaffirmed its rejection of the Tax Reform Bill.

NEF described it as a policy “conceived in bad faith”, adding that it threatens national cohesion.

The group criticised the manner of its implementation, alleging that key stakeholders, including members of the National Economic Council (NEC), were sidelined during the process.

The convener of NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, in a communique after the forum Board of Trustees’ second bi-annual meeting, in Abuja, warned against policies that could further marginalise the north’s resource potential.

The forum lauded the Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Nigeria Council of Traditional Rulers for opposing the bill, dubbing their stance “patriotic” while urging Northern politicians in the National Assembly to speak out against it.

He said: “The meeting seriously maintained that, in its present form, the Tax Reform Bill is conceived in bad faith, poorly packaged and it is a palpable threat to our unity and national cohesion.

“The Board-in-session, condemned in very strong terms, the conspicuous loss of voice on this burning issue by the overwhelming number of elected politicians in the National Assembly from the region, and fiercely warned, that indeed, the days are fast gone, when such conspiratorial connivance against the vital and strategic interest of the region, either by those within or outside the region, would be condoned or even tolerated

“In consideration of the deteriorating situation in the education sector in the country in general and the North in particular, the Board-in-Session was alarmed by the high percentage, now about (60%) of students in Northern Nigeria, who involuntarily were not able to return to their institutions of higher learning, universities, polytechnics, colleges of education and legal studies, due to high costs of tuition fees and unaffordable daily transportation to and from schools.

“The Meeting went on to discuss the explosive crisis of out-of-school children now estimated to be 20 million in the whole country, of which over 80% comes from the North. Against this troubling reality, the Board-in-session expressed serious doubt, on the viability and efficacy of the much-touted Federal Students Loan Scheme as a panacea to this malignant malady.

“The meeting spiritedly decried the prevalence of condescending attitudes being exhibited by some powerful political actors in the region, who more often than not, behave arrogantly and disdainfully like rulers rather than leaders fully committed to the plight of their people.

“The Board-in-session urgently called on the people of the North to stay resolute and remain vigilant in defence of their inalienable rights, particularly their voting rights and to desist from allowing themselves to be deceived yet again, through subterfuge, use of ill-gotten wealth and religious manipulation, by some unscrupulous elements, whose past records did not portray them to be persons of integrity, character, and probity.

The NEF urged Northerners to remain vigilant in defending their rights, particularly during elections, and warned against falling victim to manipulation by unscrupulous leaders with questionable records.

The group emphasised the importance of safeguarding the unity and resisting attempts to divide the region.

  • Which northern elders is Mafara speaking for?

Which northern elders is Mafara speaking for?

    By Deyemi Saka

Some few weeks ago, it was widely reported that “the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed regrets and sadness that the region voted for President Bola Tinubu in 2023”.

In the said report, it was further claimed that; “the region will prioritize unity and consensus in selecting a candidate for the highest office in the land.”

This claims were made by Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, spokesman of the forum, on the strength that the president got the highest number of votes from the region among the three leading contestants at the last presidential election, and also because the region gave him the highest votes compared to other regions.

It is safe to say the bloated sense of entitlement, importance and obvious demonstration of poor education of nationhood was rejected, and wholesomely condemned by the region with the most appropriate response coming from the current Honourable Minister of State for Defence, HE. Bello Muhammed Matawalle. He described the group of “elders” as a burden to the region and paperweights.

In the wave of condemnation and denouncing of the group’s stance, an official statement was released by the group disowning the earlier report and in its denial, one will see a sense of patriotic duty and commitment to nation building and repairs.

In the newly released statement, it was stated that; “The attention of NEF has been drawn to a statement credited to the forum by media – that the North regrets voting for President Bola Tinubu.

Read Also: Graça Machel: Meet woman who became First Lady of two different countries

“NEF wishes to distance itself from the statement as it did not emanate from the Forum as it is the opinion of the person in his personal capacity and not that of NEF.

“Thus, the statement credited to NEF does not reflect the position of the Forum as it has never sat and assessed performance or non-performance of Tinubu administration.

“Similarly, NEF has never discussed, in any time, the politics of 2027, nor has it deliberated on who to support or not to support on such issues.

“The NEF considers it too early to be engaged in such distractions when NEF, like most Nigerians, are demanding good governance and dividends of democracy.

“NEF, for now prefers to, focus on advocating for what improves the northern region and Nigeria as a whole.

“The NEF charges leaders to always verify and authenticate information and treat issues within their specific contexts before making public pronouncements.”

To all rational minds, the new statement issued by the NEF has laid the matter to rest, and this is why the recent attempt by Senator Kabiru Marafa to resurrect a dead issue is an obvious act of mischief, an effort to seek relevance, and a projection of an obscured profile into national consciousness.

In his (Marafa) feeble attempt at his image revival, he claimed the minister was out of order for negatively portraying the northern elders, and ought to have listed the achievements, programmes, and policies, projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the north and the country as a whole in the first 10 months of the administration.

It is highly hypocrital that many who either lost their voice or never had it in the eight years of Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency which never dignified the live of an average northerner or interested in improving their lives through purposeful and productive leadership are now blasting like a hot furnace because the present occupier of the highest office of the land is not from their region? For how long does the North play such primitive politics?

It is also noteworthy to educate Senator Marafa and his co-travellers that the North alone didn’t make Asiwaju Bola Tinubu the president, and no single region can make or mar a political ambition. Our constitution made it so.

To also claim the North has a culture of not “disrespecting” their elders, I’d love Marafa to know that it is not only peculiar to the North, it is a common age long cultural practice among all regions and Africa. What is also a cultural practice is always speaking the truth and standing by the truth irrespective of whose ox is gored. The sustained tradition of hounding people to silence in a bid to sustain the status quo which has made the region underdeveloped with high level of poverty and illiteracy by elevating selfish politicians to the status of celestial beings is what HE Matawalle  confronted and decisively dealt with.

This is the height of mischief as he attempts to project himself to be on the side of the people.  I believe any and every good student of history will and should never take this media stunt by Marafa seriously or see it as an altruistic action. We are all living witnesses to how he denied his party, APC, the governorship of Zamfara State in 2019 on the altar of insatiable personal ambition. His relentless litigation in his pursuit of his selfish political agenda saw to the People’s Democratic Party and HE Bello Matawalle get into office. He was going to do the same, and there is a strong assertion among the people of Zamfara that his rising unpopularity and his greed cost the party the All Progressive Congress the governorship of Zamfara State in 2023.

  • North under threats, now bandits’ land – Northern elders

Elders of the northern region under auspices of Northern Elders Forum (NEF) have cried out that, the region is under threats.

They lamented that, while the region still lives under horrendous Boko Haram threats, large swathes of territory in the north have effectively become bandit land.

Chairman and Convener of the Northern Elders Forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi stated this while addressing a press conference on behalf of forum in Zaria, Kaduna State.

The forum, therefore, demanded that, President Muhammadu Buhari demonstrate higher levels of concern and sensibility to the plight of traumatized citizens, especially in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Benue, Niger, Plateau and Taraba.

According to Ango Abdullahi, “the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is alarmed and its members saddened by the recent cataclysmic collapse of security, and the sanguinary and indeed colossal threat to life and property in many parts of Nigeria but more seriously in the North.

“Today, the North still lives under horrendous Boko Haram threats, a situation which has been aggravated by threats of banditry, kidnappings, armed robbery, marauding youth gangs, herders and farmers mini-wars, and seemingly overwhelmed or indifferent governments.

“Large swathes of territory in our region are now effectively bandit land. Agriculture, our pride and national economic comparative advantage, the greatest employer of labour and leading contributor to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product is in ruins as animal husbandry, and crops and roots farming is in the throes of war and damage.

REad also: Zamfara killings: Buhari has abandoned us, survivors lament

“Our rural folk live in perpetual fear of attacks from sundry terrorist assailants without any reprieve. Our major highways and transportation systems are being abandoned as they have become death traps.

“We see in all these the cumulative effect of a region whose economy and people, especially the youth have been abandoned. A dangerous youth bulge is indeed a recipe for crime, violence and wars. We understand that poverty and underdevelopment can create a brutish and violent society.

“Nigeria has just emerged from a very challenging and harrowing set of elections. This experience should provide a strategic turning point in the manner that political leaders respond to our basic national challenges.

“We hereby demand that President Buhari demonstrates higher levels of concern and sensitivity to the plight of traumatized citizens in the country, especially in the states of Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Benue, Niger, Plateau, Taraba and virtually the entire North.

“We demand for decisive, comprehensive and fundamental governmental action against poverty, underdevelopment and insecurity.

“Above all, we demand that President Buhari shows leadership and compassion which are the reciprocal expectations of the Nigerian people from their President. Should the citizens of the most populous black and African country and blessed with bounteous human and material resources be running away from bandits and criminals and become entangled in a causative web of crime, poverty, misery and underdevelopment?

“Without justifying the emigration of our people to other lands, we now see how and why our young men and women seek escape to Europe across the Sahara Desert to pursue menial jobs and Perilous. We now painfully see how desperate Nigerians running away from home, become victims of xenophobic attacks in some countries.” Northern Elders lamented.

They, however, argued that, Nigeria has the resources to build a better nation and said that, as people of conscience, they will insist that such happens.

  • Police raid Edwin Clark’s Abuja residence

…Afenifere, Ohanaeze, middle belt, Northern elders condemn raid

The Abuja residence of the Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark was raided Tuesday by the police.

The Police men, numbering six, it was learnt came from the office of the Inspector- General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris.

They were from the IGP’s ‘Special Tactical Force’ STF, Guzape, Abuja, which reports only to the Inspector- General of Police.

The 91-old former federal commissioner was at home when the police came calling at about 12.30, in a 18- Seater Hiace Bus and a four Runner Car, with registration number EU 979 ABC.

Clark, No 43, Haile Selassie Street, Asokoro residence was turned inside out as the police searched for about two hours without finding anything incriminating.

The Police men were led by Kolo Yusuf, said that they were with a Search warrant that was obtained from the court.

Speaking after the incident, Chief Clark said, “I was in the house, in my bedroom when my boys came to inform me that there were police men downstairs and in the parlour, I said what do they want, they said they came from Inspector- General of Police, IGP Tactical Squad with a warrant and with their office in Guzape, So I said what do you want?

“They said I was selling weapons in my house so that’s why they went to court to obtain a search warrant and they showed me the search warrant, I said, go ahead. So they went down,  searched everywhere, my most important part of it, my secretary, Miss Dorothy Koko  was in the bank, they said they must see that room and her bedroom and the office. So she had to come from the bank to open those rooms for them to search. Then after they came up, searched my wife’s room, my children’s room, my other parlor upstairs and everywhere, this is what happened.”

On whether the Police at the end of the day discovered arms and Ammunition, Chief Clark said, “They didn’t find anything; they made a statement that they’ve come here with a warrant to search the house for ammunition, but they have searched the house they found nothing and they themselves took away nothing. Three of my people signed it and three of them signed it that’s what happened.”

When asked if the search could be related to last week’s meeting of Elders and Leaders of various socio- cultural groups in the country, Chief Clark said, “I believe because of the various meetings we’ve been holding about the state of the nation, otherwise why would they expect, am not in Delta where I come from, that militants have come to keep ammunition in my house, but no sensible man will think that a 92 year old man in Abuja, will be keeping ammunition in his house to fight the government, overthrow the government, this is ridiculous, shameful.

“I am not saying that people don’t keep arms, but am not that kind of person, I speak my mind on issues affecting this country, I believe in advocacy, I believe in peace. When our boys, calling themselves avengers and so on, vandalized  pipelines, I formed an organization known as Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF to stop these boys and I led about 100 people including leaders, traditional rulers, everybody.

“Since then, there have been peace in the Niger Delta, oil production has increased, is that why I should be treated like this, perhaps this is the time I should mention, it has been the policy of the federal government, the presidency to congratulate Nigerians who have attained certain age, I attained the age of 91 on the 25th of May this year.

“What I said earlier on, was that I am a man of peace, I believe in peaceful coexistence in this country, I have been doing everything possible to see that Nigeria remains one that’s why we’ve been forming various organisations to keep Nigeria together. I started PANDEF on the 19th of August 2016 to advice the youths who were vandalizing pipelines, to stop them from vandalizing pipelines.

“Oil production in Nigeria which had gone down low to about 900 barrels per day has increased to over 2 million, everybody knows that. I have led meetings with Mr. President, with our people, I led a total number of 100 traditional rulers, politicians, past governors to meet with the President on the 1st of November 2016, I was looking for peace, but nobody can stop me from speaking my mind or associating with people to see that there is good governance in this country.”

“It is dangerous to say where we are going, we are moving into a police state.  What worries me is that those who are surrounding Mr. President,  I do not think they wish him well with the way they are going, President Buhari  is the President of the whole Nigeria, not one part of this country. I do not think with his greatest respect and having honored my late friend, Alhaji Maitama Sule, I do not think one police man whether IG would have gone to kano to search his house, Why this type of discrimination, it is very unfair.”

“I will never, I said it is my top slogan that when you are 70 and above, you are at the Lounge, waiting for your boarding Pass,  I would say I have gotten my Boarding pass, but God has delayed it, NOBODY can do me anything, I will speak my mind on anything that is unjust in this country, against injustice, against oppression, discrimination, religious  bigotry, ethnicity anything that will affect the unity of this country, peace, peaceful existence of this country I will speak against it.

The elder statesman has not ruled out taking a legal action against the government and the police as he noted that, “My lawyers will look into that.”

The Policemen on arrival demanded to see the Secretary to Chief Clark, Dorothy Koko who had gone to the bank as that the time they came, even as they requested that they must see her and at this time, a call was made to her to come back to the office which she did immediately.

According to the source, when Dorothy Koko arrived, the policemen asked her to open her office, she did, they searched, thereafter went to her bedroom and toilet to search for everything, even as the rooms were turned upside down.

The source said further that soon after they finished with Dorothy Koko, the Police men now climbed up to Chief Clark’s bed room where they also carried out a search in his room, the toilet, his wife’s room, the Children’s room, al, the parlours, among other places.

At the end of the two hour exercise of putting the residence of Clark into such traumatic and horrifying situation, the Police men left without finding anything incriminating against the Elder Statesman.

Three Police men were said to have signed a legal document indicating that neither arm nor ammunition was found in the house of Chief Clark or anything incriminating, while three persons from the side of Clark also signed the document before they took it to the office.

Those who signed on behalf of Chief Clark were Ambassador Godknows Igali; Secretary General of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Dr. Alfred Mulade and Mr. Mac Emakpore.

Reaction has continued to trail the invasion as Nigerian Leaders and Elders Forum expresses shock over the incident. The Afenifere, Ohanaeze, Middle Belt Forum and Northern Elders forum strongly condemned the police.

In a joint statement by the groups, the police action was described as shameful.

The statement was signed by Yinka Odumakin, Prof Chigozie Ogbu, Dr Isuwa Dogo  and   Dr Junaid Mohammed.

The statement reads: “The Nigerian Leaders and Elders Forum is flabbergasted by the gestapo-like raid on the  Abuja home of 91-year -old elder-statesman and Leader of Pan-Niger Delta Forum(PANDEF) ,Chief EK Clark by men of the Nigerian Police on the spurious allegation  that there were “arms and ammunition” stockpiled in the house.

“At the end of the shameful invasion of the home of the former Minister and Senator in the worst signal of Nigeria becoming a police state, the police could not find more than a kitchen knife regularly used to slice tomato and onion.

“We view the provocative search as not arising from any intelligence report but a sheer act of intimidation on a home that has served as meeting point for patriots across Nigeria who are engaged in peaceful consultations to save Nigeria from the edge of the precipice.

The raid is a sad reminder of the era of full blown dictatorship in 1984 when the home of Chief Obafemi Awolowo was ransacked in Ikenne by solders and officials of the dreaded NSO whose conduct has only been rivaled by the DSS under Daura before he was removed when the President was on vacation abroad.

“The traumatization of Pa Clark at 91 is yet another proof that mad power has taken over our polity and its desperation now walking on four with all boundaries of decency collapsed for raw display of beastly tendencies.

The Nigerian Leaders and Elders Forum demands an immediate apology to Chief Clark by the Nigerian Police whose leadership at the moment has shown serial unprofessionalism and dark age policing.

“We want to sound it loud and clear to the administration that if the object of this intimidation is to send fear signals to patriots who are demanding better leadership for our country ,it has backfired .We all counted the cost before we chose to embark on standing up for the country
Our battle cry remains : no retreat, no surrender !”

  • Security: Presidency blasts Northern elders, Afenifere, Ohanaeze, others

The Presidency lashed out yesterday at the Northern Elders’ Forum, the  Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the  Pan Niger Delta Forum  for railing at President Muhammadu Buhari over his handling of security in the country.

The Presidency dismissed the leaders of the  ”ethnic and sectional groups” as selfish people  who were only shedding crocodile tears.

It asked Nigerians to ignore them.

It was reacting to the communique issued on Wednesday by the groups at the end of a conference in Abuja in which they accused Buhari of incompetence in handling the security situation in the country.

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement yesterday that the “unholy alliance by these groups”  was  merely stepping up its  assault on the administration “as it expands its national dominance and moves closer to securing an outright victory in the elections next year.”

Continuing, Shehu said: “The Presidency notes with dismay that the refrain about President Buhari not doing anything about security in the country had turned into the number one fake news item being peddled in the media.

“The Presidency refers all the purveyors of falsehood to a State House press release published a few days ago and signed by Special Adviser the President, Femi Adesina, which clearly outlined the government’s major achievements and initiatives in tackling security challenges from January to July, 2018.

“The press release, which was titled: ’Combating Insecurity in the Country: Lest We Forget – Presidency’ listed out ongoing security operations: (1) Nigerian Army’s Exercise Ayem Akpatuma covering Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger states launched in February to tackle cases of kidnappings, herdsmen/farmers’ clashes, among others; (2) Nigerian Air Force establishment of three new Quick Response Wings (QRW) in Taraba, Nasarawa and Benue states respectively, and deployment of Special Forces personnel.”

He said that the press release also noted President Buhari’s approval for the establishment of a new battalion of the Nigerian Army, as well as a new Police Area Command, in Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, as part of measures to scale up security in response to the banditry affecting the area.

He added:”We advise Nigerians to read Adesina’s statement if they haven’t yet, or re-read it for better understanding of the efforts to ensure peace in the country.

“It is sad and misleading for anyone to say that President Buhari had not responded to the security challenges in the country.

“No one can honestly say that President Buhari is doing nothing about security. It’s just a fake news item being peddled by selfish politicians with vested interests in keeping Nigerians incensed, and it risks being entrenched as reality if we don’t educate ourselves with the truth.”

The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement that the “unholy alliance by these groups”  was  merely stepping up its  assault on the administration “as it expands its national dominance and moves closer to securing an outright victory in next year’s elections.”

“The Presidency notes with dismay that the refrain about President Buhari not doing anything about security in the country had turned into the number one fake news item being peddled in the media.

“The Presidency refers all the purveyors of falsehood to a State House press release published a few days ago and signed by Special Adviser to the President, Femi Adesina, which clearly outlined the government’s major achievements and initiatives in tackling security challenges from January to July, 2018.

“The press release which was titled: ‘Combating Insecurity in the Country: Lest We Forget – Presidency’ listed ongoing security operations: (1) Nigerian Army’s Exercise Ayem Akpatuma covering Benue, Taraba, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna and Niger States launched in February to tackle cases of kidnappings, herdsmen/farmers’ clashes, among others; (2) Nigerian Air Force establishment of three new Quick Response Wings (QRW) in Taraba, Nasarawa and Benue States respectively, and deployment of Special Forces personnel.”

He said the press release also noted President Buhari’s approval for the establishment of a new battalion of the Nigerian Army, as well as a new Police Area Command, in Birnin Gwari in Kaduna State, as part of measures to scale up security in response to banditry affecting the area.

He added: “We advise Nigerians to read Adesina’s statement if they haven’t yet, or re-read it for better understanding of the efforts to ensure peace in the country.
