    Ogun monarch perfect bail terms after two weeks, goes home

    The embattled Olorile of Orile-Ifo, Ogun State, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, has been released from prison in Ilaro, two weeks after he was arraigned for allegedly assaulting a septuagenarian in public.

    The monarch was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ifo by the police and granted bail but remanded at Nigeria Correctional Service in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state where he spent two weeks until he was able to perfect his bail condition.

    The spokesperson of Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS), Mr. Odukoya Owolola Olayinka, a Superintendent of NCoS, told The Nation that Oba Ogunjobi had gone home about three days ago after meeting his bail terms.

    “He (Oba Ogunjobi) has gone home about three days ago,” Olayinka said.

    Oba Ogunjobi was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to lead to a breach of peace.

    Force spokesman, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed the arraignment in his social media post, stating that the monarch was charged to court.

    “The Kabiyesi Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, who assaulted one elderly man in a viral video, in Ifo Ogun State, has been charged to court  February 4, 2025, on three-count charges of conspiracy, assault and conduct likely to lead to a breach of peace.

    “He was granted bail while the case was adjourned to 06/03/2025. The police will continue to uphold the rule of law and the core values of the noble profession,” Adejobi stated.

    Oba Ogunjobi who was arraigned before Magistrate F.A Iroko, pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

    The Magistrate granted him bail of N5m, with two sureties in like sum, and he must be a resident within the court jurisdiction.

    Suspended Ogun monarch remanded over assault

    The suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, has been remanded at the Ilaro Correctional Centre in Ogun State after failing to meet his bail conditions. 

    The spokesperson for the correctional facility, Yinka Odukoya, made this known yesterday.

    The monarch was arraigned before an Ogun State Magistrate Court on Tuesday following a viral video showing him assaulting a 73-year-old man, Abraham Areola. The footage, which sparked condemnation, showed the elderly man being forced to kneel while the monarch berated and  attacked him.

    According to court documents (MH2b8c/2025), Ogunjobi is facing charges of conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace. The charges cite violations of Sections 517, 351, and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State. 

    Magistrate F. A. Iroko granted the accused bail with two sureties, each required to provide N5 million and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. However, Ogunjobi remains in custody as he has yet to meet the bail conditions. 

    The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Ogun lauded the government’s swift action in suspending the monarch. In a statement, its Chairman, Comrade Solomon Bankole, demanded prosecution of the case.
