He said the clinic was inspired by years of observing how people delay or avoid medical care, not due to lack of concern for their health, but because this seems unaffordable or inaccessible.

‘‘CrownBak will provide professional, reliable and affordable healthcare services. Our goal is to enlighten people on importance of healthy living, early health checks and preventive care, ensuring that quality healthcare is in everyone’s reach,” he said.

He lauded stakeholders, partners, and the public for their support, assuring them of the clinic’s readiness to work with the community to promote better health and overall well-being.

  • 1,000 Egba indigent students to get scholarship

At least 1,000 indigent students of Egba extraction in Ogun State have been listed for scholarship in this year’s edition of the annual Lisabi Day Celebration.

The festival, which began with the booming of guns atop the Olumo rock on Monday, ends with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, on March 5.

The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, who made this known at his Ake Palace, Abeokuta, at the weekend, said the scholarship was the initiative of the Egba in diaspora.

Gbadebo added the Egba sons and daughters abroad took it upon themselves to address the educational plights of the beneficiaries, whose parents lack the means to finance their education.

“Ahead of this year Lisabi Day Celebration, I can confirm to you that a minimum of 1,000 indigent students have been penciled down for scholarship by Egba in diaspora,” he said.

According to him, the beneficiaries would be selected on merit.

The monarch also encouraged his people resident outside the country to start thinking of returning home for the growth and development of the ancient town.

  • How to get Nigeria out of recession – Alake

The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, has called on his people to invest massively in agriculture to rescue the area from pains of the current economic recession afflicting Nigeria.

The monarch said though there are many ways to get the people and the nation out of recession, “agriculture is the surest exit route.”

Oba Gbadebo spoke in his Ake Palace, Abeokuta, while fielding questions from journalists during a press conference to herald the 2017 edition of Lisabi Festival.

The festival is being sponsored by Globacom, a major telecom service provider in Nigeria.

He noted that it is not for nothing that the  theme of this year’s edition of the festival is “Self Reliance through Agriculture for a Secured Future,” saying it is a wake-up call to Egba nation and Nigerians on the place of agriculture in tackling the nation’s precarious economic situation.

He explained that apart from ensuring food sufficiency and job creation, agriculture would go a long way in bridging the foreign exchange deficit, which has weakened the country’s currency.

He, however, said the 21st edition of Lisabi Festival would focus more on exploring various opportunities in agriculture, with a view to stimulating interest of the people, especially the youth in agriculture.

Amosun wades into Alake, Awujale royal feud

Governor Ibikunle Amosun may have waded into the festering disagreement between the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona.
Recently, there have been exchange of bitter words between the two prominent Yoruba traditional rulers in Ogun state – Alake and Awujale, over the ranking of the Obas by the former(Alake).
Last Monday, the Alake through 22 Egba chiefs, including 15 Ogboni chiefs, insisted that the Awujale remained the least in the echelon of status among the yoruba major traditional rulers.
The Alake said his earlier listing of the Awujale as occupying the last position after the quartet of the Oni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba of Benin and Alake of Egbaland, “was supported by documentary evidence and therefore stands by his position.”
According to the Egba Paramount ruler, the ranking of the Yoruba Traditional Rulers was carried out in 1937 by the then Ooni of Ife.
The Alake’s statement was sequel to Oba Adetona’s last Thursday claims that the Alake was a junior chief in Egba forest under Alaafin who fled to Ibadan and that Alake is also of the same status with some Ijebu Obas like the Ebumawe of Ago – Iwoye that are under his(Adetona) jurisdiction.
The Awujale made the remarks in Lagos during the launch of an Endowment Fund for a Chair at the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago – Iwoye, in reply to an earlier ranking of the Yoruba obas by Alake which placed him at the tail end on the hierarchy.
But yesterday, Amosun, Oba Adetona and Oba Gbadebo met privately for about 75 minutes at the Oke – Mosan Governor’s Office, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
The details of what transpired during the closed door meeting were kept away from reporters when they emerged from it about 3:45pm.
Even when prodded several times by reporters to throw light on what happened, all of them responded in general terms.
Governor Amosun said the monarchs were in his office to deliberate on how to keep Ogun state more peaceful and vaguely blamed the press for the negative reportage of the matter.
