  • Ooni to celebrate Moremi in Lagos to empower women

    In an effort to empower women against oppression, the Ooni of Ife has initiated a musical drama to propagate African woman’s values of courage and strength as demonstrated by Queen Moremi Ajasoro.

    The 90-minute drama will be showcased from December in Lagos, according to Princess Ronke Ademiluyi, the Cultural Ambassador to Queen Moremi.

    “This unique project is going to be 90 minutes of dance, drama and music, telling the story of an African queen from Ile-Ife, South West of Nigeria.

    “It will take us back to the memory lane on how Queen Moremi risked her life and made the ultimate sacrifice to end trafficking and enslavement of her people, especially women and children,” Ademiluyi said in Lagos.The cultural ambassador spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.

    She spoke on behalf of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

    According to her, the 13-day stage performance to begin from Dec. 21 will stir courage and leadership abilities in the African woman.

    “The Ooni of Ife celebrates the courage of Queen Moremi Ajasoro with a maiden 90 minutes musical drama from Dec. 21 to Jan. 2, 2019, in Lagos,’’ she said.

    According to her, the House of Oduduwa Foundation of the palace has appointed Bolanle Austin-Peters Productions to come up with the legendary theatre performance.

    “It will propagate and rejuvenate the cherished values, culture and tradition of an African woman as demonstrated by Queen Moremi, who by unusual courage put herself forward in order to save her people,” the princess said.

    She called on African women to exhibit courage  and other leadership abilities for a progressive society.

    Ademiluyi told our reporter that proceeds from the musical drama would be used to assist and rehabilitate young women who fell victims of modern day slavery.

    “His imperial majesty, in line with his rehabilitation programmes, says the programme will key into his ongoing empowerment of victims of modern day slavery and trafficking under the House of Oduduwa Foundation,” she said.

    Queen Wuraola Zaynab, former wife of Ooni of Ile Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has congratulated him on his wedding to his new wife, Olori Prophetess Naomi.

    Zainab took to her Instagram page on Monday to wish the king well on his marriage.

    On her page she posted a picture of herself with the caption “it was once said there is nobility in compassion, beauty in empathy and grace in forgiveness.

    “Congratulations to The Ooni and his new bride Shilekunola Naomi Moronke Oluwaseyi.

  • Why Ooni did not vote, by aides

    The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, did not vote because he sees all the governorship candidates in Osun State as his subjects, his aides have said.

    The Lowa Adimula of Ife, High Chief Adekola Adeleye, who said he is the Ooni’s second in command “to the left” explained the paramount monarch cannot be seen to be taking sides with any of the candidates.

    Our correspondent observed though there was a polling unit by the Ooni’s palace he did not come out to vote.

    “It’s not good for the Ooni to vote for any candidate. If he must vote, it will be for all the candidates because he’s the father of all.

    “But that’s not possible so the kingmakers advised him not to vote.  “He cannot take sides. All the candidates are Ooni’s subjects and so it’s better for a father to be neutral when his children are in a contest,” Adeleye told our reporter. Ooni’s traditional Aide De Camp said the royal father only blessed all the candidates, wished them well and prayed for a peaceful election.

  • Ooni of Ife calls for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians

    The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called for unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, irrespective of their tribe, language or religion.

    Oba Ogunwusi made the call when Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.

    In a statement on Sunday in Ile-Ife by Mr Moses Olafare, the Chief Press Secretary to Ooni, the monarch urged Nigerians to always preach peace and shun all acts capable of destabilising the country.

    “Nigeria is our country; we do not have anywhere to go. We should preach unity and give peace a chance so as to have a stable country that will be conducive for living.

    “I look forward to a day that all political parties will converge for the unity of the country and proffer solutions to the challenges we are facing,’’ he said.

    Oba Ogunwusi advised political leaders to prioritise infrastructure such as good roads, electricity, portable water, qualitative education, standard hospitals and job creation, among others.

    The Monarch also commended Gov. Dickson for his contributions towards the growth and development of Bayelsa State.

    Oba Ogunwusi lauded him for his good leadership style, simplicity and humility and for making life more conducive for people of his state.

    The statement also quoted Gov. Dickson as commending the Ooni for upholding Yoruba culture and for laying a good legacy for Nigerians to emulate.

  • Ooni: education key to national growth

    The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has said education remained the paramount requirement for the nation to achieve all-inclusive development. The monarch spoke during the N2.5 billion endowment fund raising organised by management of Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU) in Osun State.

    Ooni said the future of Nigeria remained in the glory of its youths, stressing that governments at all level must make efforts to facilitate the access to quality education for all young people.

    The king called on wealthy Nigerians to contribute to provision of quality education across levels, saying the endowment would go a long way in fast-tracking the nation’s development.

    The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Sola Fajana, said provision of quality education required a tripartite partnership to develop infrastructure and sustain the existing ones. According to the VC, JABU is set to move to next phase of development in bringing modern infrastructure and quality training through for the endowment.

    Chairman, JABU Endowment Committee and Chief Executive Officer of Mutual Benefit Assurance Plc, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, explained why the school embarked on the N2.5 billion endowment fund, noting that it was to help the school keep its promise of providing efficient and effective service and knowledge delivery.

    He said: “With the rise in number of private and public universities in the country, particularly in the Southwest, competition to deliver efficiently has become fierce and JABU needs to keep to its promise to be the model for other school in terms of quality and efficiency.”

  • Ooni urges youths to support Buhari for better Nigeria

    The Imperial Majesty, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has urged Nigerian youths to support present Administration for betterment of the country.

    Oba Ogunwusi gave the advice during the visitation of Presidential Aspirant of Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) Party, Hon Fela Durotoye, on Thursday, in Ooni’s palace, Ile-Ife.

    He commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for prioritising youths vanguard, an exempliary good leader, that love youths and planning for their brighter future.

    “No wonder why the bill “Not too young to run” that would favour youths’ future was signed into law” he said.

    The Royal father charged the younger ones to come out to leadership position and support the elderly ones so as to take the country beyond.

    Ooni lauded the ANN Presidential Aspirant for being courageous enough to show up the interest to contest for the post, called him to orderliness as all eyes were set on him.

    “You have shown the value of the culture by taking the right step to pay homage to the first stool created by God, confirmed sitting on as ordained by God.

    “God is not a man that will lies, He has remained faithful from the inception of the world, saying that God has endowed the contestant with spirit of humility and should keep it up. he stated.

    Oba Ogunwusi eulogiesed youths to uphold the pillar of peace, love and unity of the country, saying this is the high time they need to gear up and fight for their future.

    “We are proud of you for your braveness to come out to contest for Presidential post at this time, am assure you that your name has been written on a platter of gold.

    “Nigeria youths had been sleeping before, but I believed your coming out will reawakening them from their slumbering, reiterate them for more commitment” he expressed.

    Ooni charged him to do his best and leave the rest for God, warned him against do or die poliical affairs, but to comport himself in a godly manner, saying God’s will is the best for him.

    Earlier, Hon Fela Durotoye, the ANN Presidential candidate, appreciated Ooni for his fatherly role being played since his assertion to the throne of his fore-fathers, by standing at the gap for the youths in all ramifications.

    Durotoye said that youths across the country and diaspora were proud of the royal father here and abroad for the growth and development brought to the lives of young and the aged.

    “We have learnt a lot from your exemplary leadership style which motivated me to contest for the post of President in other to deliver my colleagues from captivity” Contestant reaffirmed.

  • Don’t promote violence, Ooni warns politicians

    The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has warned politicians and party members against promoting political violence.

    The monarch gave the warning when Gov.  Rauf Aregbesola visited his palace on Monday in Ile-Ife.

    Ogunwusi said politicians must work together in harmony, warning them to refrain from promoting acts that could disrupt peace and order in the country.

    The traditional ruler also assured the governor that the prevailing peace in Ile-Ife would be sustained to promote the development of the community.

    He commended the governor for his efforts in promoting the development of infrastructure in the state.

    The monarch, however, called on the governor to come to the aid of the youths and ensure their empowerment.

    He further called for the rehabilitation of roads in the community,  saying good roads remain  tools for  socio-economic development and growth.

    Earlier, Aregbesola had acknowledged the efforts of the monarch in maintaining peaceful co-existence among traditional rulers across the country.

    The governor assured the monarch of his commitment to the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the people of the area.

    Court remands monarch for allegedly spreading rumour against Ooni

    An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday remanded a traditional ruler, Adeoye Adefarakan, 63, and one Abidemi Olukanmi, 18, for allegedly spreading rumour against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Christian Olajide, told court that the accused committed the offence sometime in November, 2017 at Ile-Ife.

    Olajide said that the accused conspired between themselves to commit felony– publication of false news that caused fear and alarm and deformation of character.

    He said that the accused also chanted and sang songs causing hatred, ridicule, spreading rumour and negative report against the Ooni of Ife.

    According to the prosecutor the actions of the accused affected the reputation of Ogunwusi and exposed him to ridicule.

    Olajide said that the song caused fear and alarm for members of the public and breached public peace at Ife Kingdom

    He said that the offence contravened sections 59, 374, 375 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

    The Defence Counsel, Mr Edward Birilomoni, applied for bail for the accused, pledging that his clients would not jump bail and that they would produce reliable sureties.

    However, the Magistrate, Mrs Adejumoke Ademola-Olowolagba, refused the accused bail but advised the counsel to come with written application for the consideration of bail.

    Ademola-Olowolagba ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody, pending the consideration of their bail.

    She adjourned the case until Feb. 23, for hearing.

    Respite for IDPs in Abuja as Ooni donates drugs, generators

    Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has donated drugs, two generators, school bags and notebooks to the Internally Displaced Persons camp in Wassa, Abuja.

    The donation was made on behalf of the monarch by a non-governmental organisation, Hopes Alive Initiative.

    Presenting the items to the IDPs camp leader, Geoffrey Bitrus, the HAI Deputy Chief Convener, Temitope Adesegun, stated that Ogunwusi was concerned by the plight of the camp inhabitants who she said lacked access to potable water and drugs.

    She explained that the monarch procured the generators to power the borehole in the camp and the clinic, adding that the notebooks and schoolbags were meant to assist the children in their education.

    Adesegun disclosed that Ogunwusi would fuel and maintain the generators so that the displaced persons could continue to have water round the clock.She said: “The Ooni of Ife as a philanthropist, was moved by the plight of the IDPs in Wassa camp and decided to address the challenges they are facing in terms of water and drugs. He has also made provision for the fueling and maintenance of the generators and he stated that he was ready to partner with other organisations to assist the less privileged members of the society.”

    The group said it would soon float an advocacy programme to assist the indigent members of the society, calling on public-spirited organisations and individuals to collaborate with HAI.

    Bitrus commended the Ooni for the donation, which, he said, would greatly alleviate the suffering of the IDPs.

    Ooni of Ife preaches national peace, unity in 2018

    The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, has called for national peace, unity and tranquility, saying they are pillars with the capacity to strengthen Nigeria’s bid for socio-economic development.

    Oba Ogunwusi stated this in Ile-Ife on Saturday while speaking at the Grand-finale of a New Year Prayer Programme organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ife Chapter.

    He acknowledged the goodness of God for the gift of life and the opportunity to witness the day.

    He also urged Christians to let their thanksgiving supersede their requests from God.

    “He is the Almighty King of Kings that spares our lives throughout 2017 till date, despite all challenges facing each and every one of us” he said.

    “There is nothing we can offer Him than to give Him all our praises throughout the days of our lives.

    “Only God is worthy of our praise, who can questioned God, if we all have been buried,” he said.

    The royal father called on Christians to always pray for peaceful coexistence before, during and after the forthcoming elections across the state and the entire country.

    He advised them to support the present administration in its efforts to make the country a better place for businesses to thrive and for peace to reign.

    Ogunwusi counselled the youths to shun violence and to work assiduously for a brighter future.

    Preaching earlier on the topic: `God of host is a consuming fire’, Pastor Samuel Akinsulure, the Christ Apostolic Church, (CAC) Ife District Coordinating Council (DCC), told the congregation that God will fight the battles of their lives, town, state and country as a whole this year.

    He, however, urged Christians to abstain from all forms of immoral activity and rededicate themselves to service to God.

    He further urged them to prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ, adding that only those, who believed in His resurrection, would be saved.

    Also, Dr Wale Bolorunduro, the immediate Past Osun Commissioner for Finance, urged that Christians to be faithful to God and worship Him without limits.

    Bolorunduro, who noted that there was hope for the country, said that all the challenges facing the country would soon be overcome.

    He urged Nigerins to be prayerful, adding that with God all things are possible.
