    Why war against pipeline vandals is failing, Oba Akinruntan

    The Olugbo of the Ugbo kingdom in Ondo state, Oba Frederick Akinruntan, has said that the war against pipeline vandalism was not yielding the desired results because traditional rulers were not being carried along.

    Oba Akinruntan, who backed the call for decentralisation of pipeline protection contract, said somebody living in Bayelsa would not understand the terrains of Ondo state.

    Akinruntan spoke at his palace during the celebration of his 14th coronation anniversary.

    He appealed to Nigerians to bear with President Bola Tinubu in the quest to deliver on his Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the country was grounded before Tinubu took over the mantle of leadership.

    The prominent Ondo monarch said Tinubu was determined to bring rapid development to the country.

    He identified problems with the traditional institutions in the southwest to deviation from the old ways of picking monarchs.

    He said: “That is why we are having problems in the southwest. Those days before becoming an Oba, we had to consult Ifa, you have to come from the lineage of monarchs. Nowadays, thieves, 419 are Obas in some communities. In those days, we have to check the background. These days nobody cares so far you have money. That is why we are having lots of problems.

    “The fight against pipeline vandals has not been successful without giving our portion here or recognised the monarch. Decongest pipeline contract. Somebody in Bayelsa will not know the terrain in Ondo State. They are just wasting money to give pipeline contracts to one person. The traditional rulers should be carried along. Ondo is the most peaceful state in the Niger Delta. We have control of our People.”

    The state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ade Adetimehin, said Ugboland and the entire Ilaje nation have witnessed infrastructural development under Oba Akinruntan.

    He said Oba Akinruntan successfully projected the potential of his kingdom to the world.

    LAST Saturday, the ancient town of Ugboland was the destination of the Who’s Who in the country as they came to celebrate with HRH Oba Frederick Obateru Akinrutan on the occasion of the 8th anniversary of his coronation as the Olugbo of Ugbo. The event took place at the ultra-modern Oba’s palace in Ode-Ugbo and showcased the Oba’s achievements since his ascension to the revered stool.

    It was a day the Ilaje people of riverine Ondo State will never forget as politicians, captains of industry and royal fathers descended on their sleepy town to celebrate with the oil magnate and chief executive officer of Obat Petroleum.

    The monarch mingled effortlessly with his esteemed guests. Stylishly attired in green agbada with a green cap balanced delicately on his royal head, he was a picture of poise as he listened while his giant strides were recounted.

    Since he became his people’s paramount ruler, Oba Akinruntan has fought tooth and nail to ensure better life for his people. He has instituted free health care programmes, settled community crises and sponsored brilliant but indigent sons and daughters of Ilajeland to the university.

    For four days, Ugboland in Ondo State witnessed an influx of traditional rulers, politicians, businessmen, corporate players and other notable people as the traditional ruler, Oba Fredrick Obateru Enitiolorunda Akinruntan, marked his fifth coronation anniversary on November 7.

    After the four-day grand occasion which stretched from Wednesday November 5 to Sunday November 8, those who previously would not spare the seemingly inconsequential town a thought now think of it as a land of prestige.

    Amidst the pomp and flamboyance that accompanied the occasion, prominent Nigerians also bagged various chieftaincy titles. An astute administrator, Oba Akinruntan holds the record of owning Africa’s largest petroleum depot and world’s third largest.

    All roads will lead to Ugboland from November 5 to 8 as the Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Obateru Akinruntan, marks his fifth coronation anniversary. His domain promises to be the point of convergence for businessmen, politicians and top players in the corporate world as indigenes of the Zion Town celebrate their king.

    As part of the ceremonies, some prominent Nigerians are lined up for chieftaincy titles. Top on the list is the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and his wife. The couple will be bestowed with the chieftaincy title of Baba Gbegba Aje and Yeye Gbegba Aje of Ugbo, a title last held by a Portuguese about 3,000 years ago. A professor of History from the United States, Prof. Falola and his wife are also billed to bag chieftaincy titles.

    The occasion will be made more splendid with the recent conferment on the Kabiyesi the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON).

Since his ascension to the throne of his forefathers, he has placed Ugboland on the global landscape as a result of the panache which he brings to bear on his royal conducts. That the first grade king has been more than influential in the restoration of the traditional institution back to its glorious days is incontrovertible. He has attained an enviable place among his peers, as well as a growing stature which has not gone unnoticed.

    One traditional ruler who has attracted attention no matter how hard he tries to shy away from the klieglights is the Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Fredrick Akinruntan. Last Sunday, he was again honoured with his designation as the Most Stylish Monarch in Nigeria. The event was the Encomium Black and White Ball Season 5, where 25 personalities who have distinguished themselves in different fields of human endeavours were honoured.

    Held at Ruby Gardens, Lekki, Lagos, the organisers described the chairman and founder of Obat Petroleum as an epitome of royalty, refinement and class, who is blessed with assorted objects of desire. Oba Akinruntan is in a class of his own in terms of style. When he and others traditional rulers paid a visit to Aso Rock recently, he was the cynosure of all eyes as the only one allowed to be driven in his customised Rolls Royce while others were conveyed to the venue of the meeting in a costal bus.

    Oba Akinruntan is blessed with massive earthly possessions about which he makes no pretence. His garage parades top of the range wonders on wheels.

    Multi-millionaire monarch and Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, will hold his coronation anniversary on November 4. The man of means will also seize the opportunity of the celebration at his Ugbo domain in Ilaje part of Ondo State to reward some prominent sons of the kingdom with chieftaincy titles.

    Preparations for the event have reached fever pitch among the crème-de-la-crème in the nation’s social circle. The royal father will be all smiles when the high and mighty gather together to honour him at the colourful event.

    The monarch owns a business conglomerate with interests in petroleum, shipping, construction, fishery, tourism, hospitality, consultancy services and water purification, among others.
