Oba Kabir Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu in Lagos State, has conferred the title of Baseto Ìpadàbo Síle of Ikorodu on United States-born African American, Jon James Olomo.

Olomo, founder of ancestry platform, Tribal Tapestry, traced his roots to Mosene chieftaincy family, descendants of Prince Senlu of Imota through DNA analysis and genealogical research.

His conferment coincided with the high-profile chieftaincy ceremony for First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu.

Speaking after his coronation, Olomo described the honour as a personal and cultural milestone.

“This is the beginning of a cultural renaissance bringing the diaspora back home. Through Tribal Tapestry, we’re helping people find their tribe and Nigeria to reclaim its children,” he said.

Olomo, who was previously honoured as a prince of Shasha in Alimosho, announced plans to launch initiatives in Ikorodu, including a Diaspora Genealogist Training Programme, to equip locals with skills in remote ancestry work, and annual homecoming tours to connect African Americans with their home families.

Tribal Tapestry, which Olomo founded, uses DNA testing, family trees, and cultural restoration to reconnect African Americans with their African tribes, relatives, and ancestral homelands.

The title, whichis “one who facilitates the return home,” is a symbolic and practical bridge between Yoruba and the diaspora.
