  • Martins hits seventh goal in MLS

Nigeria striker, Obafemi Martins, continues to impress for Major League Soccer (MLS) club, the Seattle Sounders and is now three shy of double figures this season.

‘Obagol’ opened the scoring with a thumping header for Sigi Schmid’s side in Sunday’s 3-0 win over FC Dallas at the Century Link field, Seattle, supersport.com reports.

Further goals from Eddie Johnson and Brad Evans completed a comfortable win for Seattle who now moved up to seventh on the Western Conference table with 31 points from 20 games.

It was his second goal against FC Dallas this season having netted against them on May 19 at the same venue.

He scored his first MLS goal on April 21 against Colorado Rapids and followed that up with a well-taken goal against the San Jose Earthquakes on May 5.

He scored his fourth goal of the season against Chivas on June 2 before grabbing a brace against DC United on July 4.

  • Martins scores again

Nigeria international footballer can’t stop scoring goals despite being ignored by handlers of the Super Eagles.
Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins was on target for Seattle Sounders as they recorded a 3-0 home win over FC Dallas in a Major League Soccer match on Sunday.
The 28-year-old headed in a Mauro Rosales free-kick in the eighth minute, to open the scoring for the Sounders.
Eddie Johnson added a second in the 22nd minute, and a stoppage time penalty from Brad Evans helped secure a club record 10th straight home win for the Sounders.
Martins has so far scored seven goals in 11 starts (and three substitute appearances) for Seattle Sounders in the MLS this season.
  • Levante: Martins is strong, fast

Super Eagles outcast, Obafemi Martins will be a good buy for Levante in the Spanish La Liga according to the club’s sporting director, Manolo Salvador.
In an interview with the club’s official radio station on Friday, Salvador said: “He’s strong, has speed, with many movements and a good player that suits our type of game.
“We are fortunate to have signed him. It is a pity that he cannot compete in the Europa League, but the La Liga is the most important thing,” he said.
Speaking further, Salvador confessed that the Nigeria international suffered a lot while negotiating his switch from Rubin Kazan.
“”From the first contact I had with Martins in Munich (Germany) two months ago, he has never given me signals that he would act on the contrary.
“Martins was prepared from day one to come but it was not in his hands. He never talked about money. He believed better things would come when he might have joined Levante and that I value a lot,” Salvador added.
Meanwhile, Martins arrived in Levante last night and is expected to undergo routine medical examination in the coming days, a statement on the club’s official website disclosed.
The striker, 27, it would be recalled, joined Levante on Thursday  on a two-year contract in a free transfer after Rubin Kazan agreed to terminate his contract before its expiration date.
