    Winners emerge in six sports at Obasa Games

    ‎Winners have emerged in six sporting events at the ongoing Obasa Games 2025 following the conclusion of the indoor events at the Agege Stadium Indoor Sports Hall.

    ‎After days of fierce competition among the district winners at the Agege Stadium, Chess, Ayo, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Boxing and Athletic events produced winners.

    ‎In the boxing finals, Ramadan Ayinde and Oluwatoyin Amirat were crowned the King and Queen of the ring in the boys’ and girls’ U-15 categories while Kareem Yusuf and Nimotallahi Ajayi emerged champions in the boys’ and girls’ U-18 categories respectively.

    ‎Aina Sultan triumphed in a thrilling boys’ U-15 table tennis final against Adeleke Fikayo  while Kuyoro Mary won the girls’ U-15 title after beating Ogidiolu Olasubomi in the final clash.

    ‎In the U-18 Table Tennis boys and girls finals, Ekundayo Ishola pummelled Aromire Quam to emerge champions in the boys’ category while Afolabi Aisha emerge winner after beating Olorunkoya Aisha in the girls’ category.

    In chess, Adu Samuel came first while Adeiga David and Patrick Prais came second and third respectively.

    ‎In Scrabble, Okedairo Temisin emerged champion followed by Ajetunmobi Joel and Aneef Kelani who came second and  third respectively.

    ‎In Ayo, Kasali Adams came first while Majaro Abideen and Junaid Zainab came second and third respectively.

    ‎In athletes finals, John Bright claimed victory in the 100m boys’ U-15 final, Okonkwo Nwoma  came first in the girls’ U-15 final while Ganiu Olamilekan and Shodipo Eniola emerged champions in the boys’ and girls’ U-18 categories respectively.

    ‎Similarly, Otta Ikosi Senior High School won the 4X100m relay final in the girls’ U-15 category while Lagos State Junior Model won gold in the boys’ category. Iwerekum Community Senior High School  won gold in the 4X100m in the girls’ U-18 category while The Apostolic Church Grammar School emerged the winner in the boys’ U-18 category.

    ‎The 4X100m mixed relay produced Millennium Senior Secondary School as the winner in the U-15 category while Iwerekum Community Senior Secondary School emerged winner in the U-18 category.

    ‎At the end, winners from the Table Tennis event shared the sum of N2m; winners from Boxing received N2m while N500, 000 each was allocated for winners from Chess, Ayo, Scrabble and Athletic events.

    About 12,000 students were drawn from the various secondary schools from the six educational districts in the State to participate in this year’s Sport Fiesta tagged from the street to stardom.

    ‎The Obasa Games, a multi-sports fiesta event, was put together by Kings Sports International annually to honour the Speaker, of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

    The Chairman Local Organising Committee, Obasa Games 2025, Moshood Ajibola,  has hailed the athletes’ remarkable performance at the ongoing 3rd edition of the grassroots sporting event as the games enter knockout stage.

    Champions from the six educational districts in Lagos State from various sporting activities have begun battle for the final round of the event at the Agege Stadium.

    At the Agege Stadium, young athletes within the age bracket of 15-18 have continued to showcase talents and determination after securing places in the knockout round of the event aimed to discover new talents in Football, Boxing, Athletics, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Chess and Ayo Olopon.

    About 12,000 students were drawn from the various secondary schools from the six educational districts in the State to participate in this year’s Sport Fiesta tagged from the street to stardom.

    Speaking on the athlete’s showing so far, Ajibola expressed his excitement with the level of the display from the participants in all Sports, claiming they beat his imagination with their performances.

    “I’m so impressed with what I have seen so far from the kids from Football, Boxing, Table Tennis, Scrabble, Athletics, Chess and Ayo Olopon.

    “The Obasa Games is a platform to discover the emerging talents from grassroots and our joy as organisers is to see these young lads move on from here to either represent Lagos State at Sports Festivals or Nigeria at various international competitions,” he said.

    The Obasa Games is a multi-sports fiesta event put together by Kings Sports International annually to honour the Speaker, of Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

    The 2025 edition of Obasa games which is expected to come to an end on Saturday, December 13, will see the winners from the seven sports including football sharing the N12M prize money.

    Football tourney enters group phase at Obasa Games

    ‎The group phase of the football tournament in the ongoing Obasa Games 2025 will start today, November 19 and end on November 29, the organisers have revealed.

    ‎The preliminary stage, which started on Friday with the opener between Flexy 89 FA and Papa Academy FA, ended yesterday November 18.

    ‎According to the organisers, the Round of 16 games will start on December 2nd while the Quarter- final matches will be played between December 7th and 9th.

    ‎The semi-final clashes have been fixed for December 10th while the third-placed game will be staged on December 11th.

    ‎The grand finale, which is expected to be held at the Anwarul Islam Model College, Oniwaya, Agege playing field, will come up on December 13.

    ‎Also, the other Games final rounds are expected to start at the Agege Stadium from November 24th – 28th following the completion of the elimination round from the six educational districts in Lagos State.

    ‎Obasa Games, which will run for one month across Lagos State, was organised by King Sports International in honour of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

    ‎Speaking at the  opening  ceremony of the Obasa Games 2025, the Chairman Agege Local Government Area who doubles as the event’s  Main Organizing Committee (MOC)  Chairman , Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa stressed  the  essence of the Obasa Games is to offer opportunities to talented youths in Lagos State.

    ‎”We will engage them over the next month, allowing them to enjoy sports and participate actively, paving their way to become future champions,” Obasa said.

    ‎This year’s edition is themed “From the Streets to Stardom-Celebrating Grassroots Talent, Inspiring Champions’, a message Abdul Ganiyu said reflects collective belief that greatness often begins in the most modest of places.

    ‎He said: “It is a tribute to raw, untapped potential that exists across Lagos, waiting only for an opportunity to shine. The Obasa Games stand as that opportunity-a bridge between ambition and achievement.”

    Obasa Games 2025: Qualification stage commences across Lagos districts

    The qualifiers for the 2025 edition of the Obasa Games have officially commenced across the six educational districts in Lagos State.

    The annual multi-sport competition, created in honour of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, and organised by Kings Sports International, aims to promote grassroots sports development in the state. 

    Formerly a football-only event, this year’s edition now features Boxing, Table Tennis, Chess, Scrabble, Ayo Olopon, athletics and football.

    The games kicked off on Friday at Anwarul Islam College, Agege.

    According to a statement by Kings Sports International, six events — excluding football — were held on Monday, November 17, in District III, which covers Lagos Island and Epe.

    The statement, signed by the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Moshood Olawale Ajibola, noted that winners from all six districts will compete in the final round in Agege, where a total prize pool of N12 million is up for grabs.

    “The District Qualification Stage, a precursor to the grand finale scheduled for later this month, began on Monday, November 17,” he said.

    The preliminaries will continue into next week with the following schedule: District III (Lagos Island–Epe): Monday; District IV (Surulere): Tuesday; District II (Ikorodu): Wednesday; District VI (Oregun): Thursday; District V (Badagry): Friday; District I (Agege/Alimosho): Monday.

    Ajibola added that the core objectives of the Obasa Games include promoting grassroots sports, building character, developing strategic and analytical thinking, nurturing leadership skills, and encouraging goal setting and healthy risk-taking among youths.

    The organisers of Honourable Mudashiru Obasa’s Games tagged ‘Obasa Games 2025‘ have announced  a total of N12 million as prize money for the third edition of the competition holding  between November 14th and December 13th  in Lagos.

    The event, which was organised by King Sports International in honour of the Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, will see youths from all 57 Local Government Areas (LGA) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Lagos State compete in seven sports including football, boxing, chess, table tennis, scrabble, Ayo and athletes.

    According to the organisers, the winners of the football competition will receive the sum of N3m cash reward while second and third-placed teams will pocket N2m and N1m respectively.

    Also, winners from Table Tennis event will share N2m; winners from Boxing event will part with N2m while N500, 000 each was allocated for winners from Chess, Ayo and Scrabble events.

    Speaking at a press conference, the Chairman Local Organising Committee Moshood Olawale Ajibola said this year’s edition was aimed to give all youths in Lagos State the opportunity to showcase their talents, stressing that participants were drawn from all six educational districts in Lagos State. 

    “This time around we are going across Lagos State which will include all six educational districts. We are doing all these so that all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas will have participants in the tournament. That’s our aim this year,” Olawale said.

    He added: “The Obasa Games have grown bigger and bigger from its inception and all thanks to Hon. Dr. Mudashiru Obasa for his vision and support to the youths in Lagos State. Our aim is to identify talents in Lagos State through Sports that is why we organised this tournament. We also give kudos to the Chairman of the Agege Local Government, Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Obasa for his support to the program. He has given a lot to the event.” 

    The one-month long event will begin with opening ceremony on November 14th  at Anwar-Ul Islam Model College Agege.

    Also, Anwar-Ul Islam Model College Agege, Dairy Farm Secondary School field and Abesan Mini Stadium will host football event.

    Olawale said elimination process in six other Sports apart from football, which will be conducted within the six educational districts, will begin from 17 November to 22nd November. He added that all winners at the elimination process will converge at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Agege Stadium from 24th to 28th November to compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions.

    The tournament started three years ago with a football tournament within Agege Local Government Area, and it was expanded to Lagos West Senatorial District for the second edition last year with five sports before it was extended this year to all 57 Local Government Areas (LGA) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Lagos State.

    The draws for the multi-sport 2024 Obasa Games was yesterday unveiled  at the Agege Local Government Secretariat.

    The event  was held inside the multipurpose hall of the local government as 32 teams  were drawn across the Lagos West Senatorial District with eight groups of four teams each.

    The draw revealed the opening day fixture of the football event between Lion Hearts FC and Ajegunle United as well as the paring of other teams. The opening ceremony will take centre stage on November 15 at the Anwar-Islam Secondary School while Diary Farm Secondary School in Agege will serve as second venue for the football games.

    The chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Obasa Games, Alhaji Ganiyu Obasa, urged the participating teams to present a formidable team as he announced the various cash prizes for the top teams and individual award to exceptional players during the event.

    The ceremony had top dignitaries from the football and political space in attendance.

    The Chairman Lagos State House Of Assembly Service Commission, Otunba Richard Akin Oshungboye, Chairman House Committee on Sports, Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, SSA on Sports to the Lagos State Governor, Damilare Orimoloye.

    In addition  attendance were two ex- internationals  Waidi Akanni and Haruna Lookman alongside the General Secretary of Lagos State referees Association, Dele Atoun.

    As the name implies, the Obasa Games is a multi-sports event consisting of football, boxing, table tennis, chess, and scrabble strictly for Under-19 male and female within the Lagos West Senatorial District.
