Obidient Movement reaffirms support for Moghalu

The leadership of the Obidient Movement in Anambra State and the Southeast zone has dismissed reports claiming the group has endorsed the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, ahead of the November 8 governorship election.

Describing the claim as a “huge joke” and a “desperate distraction,” the leaders reaffirmed their total support for the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Dr George Moghalu, in line with the directive of their principal, Mr Peter Obi.

They spoke at the sidelines of a press conference organised by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Tanko Yunusa, where plans to mobilise massive voter support for Moghalu were discussed.

Among those who addressed the reporters is Mr Obiora Anueyiagu, leader of the Obidient Movement Stakeholders in Anambra State, and Mr Kingland Ezeani, spokesperson of the Movement in the Southeast.

Both leaders urged members of the public to disregard the viral messages on social media suggesting that the group had endorsed Governor Soludo.

Anueyiagu said: “Our leader, Mr Peter Obi, is solidly behind Dr George Moghalu and his running mate, Lady Ifeoma Okaro. Today, our National Coordinator, Dr Yunusa Tanko, reaffirmed the Movement’s full support for Moghalu.

Any endorsement by any person or group in favour of another candidate is pure deception. The Obidient Movement in Anambra State will not allow its name to be dragged into such dubious acts by elements seeking cheap publicity.”

He further emphasised that the Movement remains united and committed to ensuring a free, fair, and credible election on November 8, warning that any attempt to rig the poll would be resisted.

On his part, Ezeani described the alleged endorsement of Soludo as misleading and the handiwork of transactional politicians.

“The Obidient Movement has only one candidate in Anambra State—Dr. George Moghalu (Ohamadike). We are aware that some miscreants have purportedly endorsed another candidate in our name, but such actions are fraudulent. They can do whatever they wish, but not with the name of the Obidient Movement,” he said.
