  • Fake News: CSOs want Timi Frank arrested, prosecuted

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups against Terrorism in Nigeria, has described the conduct of the former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Timi Frank, as a threat to national security, which must be immediately checkmated by the Federal government.
The group said, it is becoming worried about the  criminal penchant of Timi Frank, for spreading falsehood, inciting and insidious statements especially at this crucial electioneering period in the country.
The group at a media briefing  today by its Convener ,  Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji, said it was reacting to a recent statement credited to Frank, where he alleged that  Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai and some top officials of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, over the weekend held a secret meeting with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) where plans to rigged the forthcoming Presidential election were purportedly hatched.

The group said it is completely taken aback, by the insidious statement credited to Timi Frank, in an attempt to score cheap political points and throw caution to the wind.
“Even though we understand desperation of Timi Frank, we cannot but also remind him, that we all have a binding duty to uphold the ethos of fairness, equity and justice, any departure from this acceptable standard is disingenuous, mischievous and wicked”!  We implore the general public to ignore characters like Timi Frank, whose conducts, are capable of causing confusion and apprehension  at this critical period when the 2019 election is fast approaching.”
“It is also our hope, that the Federal government will take a drastic step, in ordering the immediate arrest and prosecution of Mr Timi Frank and his sponsors , who major preoccupation at this period is the dissemination of fake news, aimed at destabilizaling the country and casting aspersions on the integrity of our security agencies, particularly the leadership of the Nigerian Army and our indefatigable COAS,  who have been making tremendous sacrifices to protect our nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and democracy. Our Armed Forces especially the Nigerian Army and it’s leadership must be insulated from the antics and activities of some unpatriotic individuals and their collaborators both local and foreign.
  • Group uncovers subversive plot to discredit Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups against Terrorism Nigeria has raised an alarm,  over what it called the subversive activities of a criminal cartel which seeks to undermine the nation’s military especially the Nigerian Army, using the instrumentality of a certain controversial self styled pseudo activist, resident in the United Kingdom,  Dr Idris Ahmed of a shadowy Citizens United for Peace and Stability, (CUPS) to give covert support to terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.
The group in a statement issued today and signed by its Convener, Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji said it also uncovered part of the larger scheme by this cartel ,  to begin a series of a well funded and orchestrated campaign of calumny against the leadership of the Nigerian Army and the Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, who the Coalition said,  is the main target of the orchestrated campaign of calumny.
It said, that recent investigation into the activities of Dr. Idris Ahmed, confirmed that there is an agenda  to discredit the Chief of Army Staff and the Nigerian Army leadership through frivolous and fictitious accusations bothering on incompetence in the prosecution of the war against insurgency in the North Eastern part of the Country, corruption and abuse of office.
The group further said that those behind the move, are also out to desperately incite and distract Nigerian troops by posting simulated gory pictures of purported attacks on troops, military formations and various false narratives and mischievous headlines in some compromised section of the media on the war against terrorism.
The group therefore urge Nigerians, to disregard the latest efforts,  by those it described as the fifth columnist, whose major aim, is not to only embolden the insurgency groups, but also to demoralize Nigerian troops, particularly the Army, thereby exposing Nigerians, Nigeria and her territorial integrity, for further attacks by the decimated but desperate Boko Haram terrorist group for selfish politically motivated reasons.
  • Coalition threatens to force Amnesty International out of Nigeria.

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups against Terrorism in Nigeria have asked International right group,  Amnesty International (AI) to quit its operation in Nigeria or face a possible Mass Action by the Nigerian people, over what it termed as the  “covert and clandestine operations of the AI, meant to undermine Nigeria’s National  security and foreign policies, through deliberate inciting and false allegations against the Nigerian Military”

At a Press briefing in Ibadan on Thursday, Convener of the  group, Comrade Odeyemi Oladimeji said “We have observed that AI  activities in Nigeria are undoubtedly  covert and clandestine operations meant to undermine our security and foreign policies, by deliberately, inciting and making false allegations against our Military,  especially the Nigerian Army.  Whereas, we have gathered from close monitoring that this covert operatives of AI are also working with some local collaborators who are politically exposed including  a former Nigerian president,  who is hell bent on bringing down the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for selfish and self serving reasons.”

According to the group, the AI through many of its actions in Nigeria, especially it frequently released reports, have constituted itself as an agency, that embolden the activities of  terror groups such as Boko Haram by continuously portraying the Nigerian security agencies as the aggressors.

“We wish to emphatically state, that Nigerians have had enough of the absurdities and campaign of calumny by the Amnesty International and therefore demand, that it quits its operations in Nigeria, with immediate effect, as we can no longer allow such self serving organisation like AI, to continually undermine our National security, at the detriment of the lives and properties, of our innocent citizens.”

“Having constituted itself as a clog in the wheel of progress of our gallant security forces, who have continued to give their best, including sacrificing their lives, for our protection and that of our territorial integrity, we wish to state, that we shall no longer tolerate  these deliberate acts of sabotage and  compromise of national security by the Amnesty International.”

Odeyemi further said that failure of Amnesty International to quit Nigeria, as demanded by the group, would leave the Coalition, with no other option than to employ any legitimate means, to force Amnesty International out of the country.
