  • Three die, 10 injured in Ijebu -Ode-Ore expressway  accident

    Multiple vehicles accident on Ijebu – Ode – Ore expressway has claimed three lives – a female passenger and two male passengers, and injured 10 others on Tuesday morning.

    The accident occurred around 11am at the Odogbolu stretch of the expressway, involved a bus on the fleet of God Is Good Motors transport company marked  AYJ836XK and a Mercedes Benz (Mack) with registration number  SKB 844AA.

    It was learnt that in an attempt by the bus which was sandwiched at the time between two trucks to overtake them, it had side collision with the truck on its left hand side, swerved and collided with the second truck, according to Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi.

    Also, the Sector Commander, Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Clement Oladele, who confirmed the accident to The Nation, attributed the cause to “wrongful overtaking, speeding and loss of control.”

    Oladele said 19 people were involved in the accident, adding that the dead had been taken to the morgue of State Hospital  Ijebu – Ode while the injured were taken to Ro’ona  Hospital also in Ijebu – Ode for medical attention.

    “The dead were deposited at the ijebu Ode General Hospital Mortuary, while the injured victims were taken to Ro’ona Hospital, Ijebu Ode for medical attention.

    “Also, the vehicles involved were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Odogbolu Division,” he said.

  • ‘We want continuity in Ogun’

    Chairman, Leguru Local Council Development Area (LCDA,), Odogbolu, Mr Ololade Onakoya, has said Ogun State needs a strong candidate who has been in the system and will continue with Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration’s mission to re-build the state.

    Mr Onakoya made this declaration during a chat with reporters at his Atiba, Ijebu Ode.

    “Ogun State needs a strong candidate who has been in the system with the agenda of the mission to re-build Ogun State.

    “The governor is known for two things, namely building on the legacies achieved by his predecessors and ensuring he left his own legacies to be built on by his successor.

    “He came into governance and built on the works he met on ground, modifying and restructuring, thus making them better, without destroying our most cherished heritage, and where need be, create a better avenue for their preservation.

    He believed that Governor Amosun’s visionary leadership is based on sound and holistic view of transformation, as an excellent way to bequeath sound legacies for posterity.

    “This is remarkably appreciated in the areas of infrastructural development,” Onakoya said.

    ‘No clue on killers of family of six in Ogun’

    No clue yet to the ‘insiders’ suspected  to have assassinated a Muslim cleric, Sheik Yussuf Abdul-Salam, his wife and four children in their home at the Atiba area of Odogbolu,  near Ijebu – Ode, Ogun State.

    Sheik Yusuf Abdulsalam Tanimola in his 30s, his wife and four children, including eight years old twins were found dead, in their home last Tuesday morning by their neighbours.

    The cleric was said to have been smashed to death with stone while his wife and children were hacked down with machetes by suspected killers, who stole into their home and murdered them in a pre – dawn attack.

    The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who had visited the scene to assess the situation, told journalists that the killing might have been perpetrated by an “insider” or with the help of an insider.

    “The trace of the modus that is used seems that there is work of an insider…It’s a constructive act; when we say constructive act, it means an act which is done by a knowledge of the inside of the place,” Iliyasu said.

    And check by The Nation revealed that there is no clue yet to the people that wiped out the Atiba family of six, no arrest have also been made but investigation  into the killing persists even as the Police have embarked on “massive manhunt to track down the killers” and apprehend them.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told The Nation that there was no arrest yet but investigation continues.

    Abimbola added that the motive for the killing is also not yet established, but assured that the Police would get the killers.

    Odogbolu gets new council chief

    The founder of the Nigerian Institute of Production Management (NIPM), Prince Olaniyi Opanuga, has been sworn in as the Chairman, Transition Committee, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State by Governor Ibikunle Amosun at Obas’ Complex Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

    In a chat with Southwest Report shortly after the event, Prince Opanuga who is the current President of Council of Certified Institute of Applied Management and Administration (CIAMA), said he was humbled by the Governor’s trust in him, promising to put in his best to complement the efforts of the governor to make Ogun State a modern one.

    Having served as the Secretary to the Local Government in the immediate past administration, he has garnered appreciable experience in local government administration during and will deploy his connection in the industrial sector to attract investors to the area in order to transform, develop and emancipate his people from poverty, saying innovative policies will be initiated for the betterment of all.

    During a separate inauguration of other members at the local government secretariat, Prince Opanuga implored them to eschew personal aggrandizement and desperate quest to amass wealth at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve.

    He further said through constructive criticism and useful pieces of advice they can jointly lift and restore hope to the people.

    Other members sworn in were Mr. Ololade Onakoya as Vice-Chairman; Mrs. Morenikeji Adeogun as Secretary to the Local Government; Mr. Sesan Badejo Okunuga and Hon. Ezekiel Agbaoye as members respectively.
