    Ogbeide faces sack

There are strong indications that the Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United FC, Solomon Ogbeide and his assistants would be sacked following the team’s poor outings in recent Globacom Premier League matches.

The Restoration Boys twice came from behind to force visiting Dolphins to a 2-2 draw in a Glo Premier League game decided at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa on Sunday.

A source in the team’s camp informed SportingLife that the board is not happy with the results recorded under the Ogbeide-tutored side.

The Yenagoa-based side had to wait until final league game gave victory over Heartland FC in Owerri to escape relegation last season.

Bayelsa United are already in the relegation zone with seven points out of possible 24 points. And the management is not ready to wait until it is difficult to find a remedy.

The new management, which was charged with the mandate of taking the club to greater height, are already feeling the heat from the club’s supporters over the it’s poor performances.

In the game against Dolphins yesterday, the first half appears to be drawing to a 0-0 conclusion until the 33rd minute when Dolphins took the lead following an error by Paul Godwin in goal for Bayelsa United.

The former Enyimba shot stopper flapped at a harmless corner kick from Chidiebere Okoli leaving Emeka Atuloma with the simplest of all taps  to put Dolphins in the lead.

The goal sparked Bayelsa back to life and they almost twice restored parity  only to be denied by Dolphins Godwin Anyalogu.

Both teams had chances in the second half to alter the scoreline but failed to take it with the goalkeepers proving their mettle in both instances.

Godwin gathered Omo Johnson’s weak effort for Dolphins while Anyalogu narrowed the angle forcing substitute Eric Frimpong to shoot wide for Bayelsa United.

Frimpong made atonement for his loss with a strike in the 56th minute to draw Bayelsa level but a brilliantly taken goal from Chidiebere Okoli put Dolphins 2-1 ahead 10 minutes later.

The second goal from Dolphins deflated the host as the frustration of going behind for the second time got them throwing rash tackles and picking up cards for the foul.

However just as it appears Dolphins were running away with all three points Uchechukwu Onyedikachi 25 yard effort took a wicked deflection on it’s way to goal wrong footing Anyalogu to bring scores to 2-2.

Tried as they could Bayelsa United failed to secure a late goal for them and Dolphins walked away with a well deserve point.

Ogbeide: We are not there yet

Bayelsa United Technical Adviser, Solomon Ogbeide has warned his wards not to be carried away with their goalless away draw against Sharks FC.

The Restoration Boys withstand pressure from the Blues Angels to secure vital away point in the week 5 Glo Premier League match at the Liberation Stadium, Port-Harcourt on Thursday afternoon.

The results earned Bayelsa United 5 points out of possible 15, moving to 13th position on the log.

Bayelsa United defenders were resolute in their defending.

Ogbeide told SportingLife that he needs to work on the attacking force, saying that they were unable to convert their scoring chances.

“The boys did well and we deserve what we got in the match. Sharks are better side too. We played well and we will continue to build on the results. We are not there yet. There is still more to be done on the team. It is not yet Uhuru,” Ogbeide told SportingLife.

“The problems are that the boys are missing scoring opportunities and we need more to do on that. We will work on the midfield and our attack so as to start scoring more goals. All in all, we thank God for the victory.”

Alex Otakho Aghahowa of Bayelsa United was named the Man of the Match.

However, Aghahowa was injured during the match and was replaced by Anthony Abawula.

    Ogbeide praises Eagles rebuilding process

Bayelsa United head coach, Solomon Ogbeide has tasked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and other football stakeholders to give the Super Eagles more time to mature and not run them down with criticisms.

The Eagles were far from impressive against the Cranes of Uganda at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, Uyo and it was no wonder they lost 0-1 to the visitors but they upped their game against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Nelspruit and they deservedly got a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

It is at the backdrop of this that Ogbeide who is the Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association urged football stakeholders including the NFF to thread the path of caution and watch what they say regarding the results got by the senior national team.

He said whatever that is said could either demoralise or uplift the spirits of the players adding that building a team always takes time.

“Thats football for you.But the most important thing was that we were not disgraced”, the former Akwa United gaffer said few minutes after the penalty shoot outs that edged out his team.

To buttress his assertion that his team were better throughout the regulation time, Ogbeide explained that Wolves controlled the game in the area of possession and markmanship pointing out that when the match dragged into the lottery of penalty kicks, he resigned himself to fate that it could be any team’s day.

“We could not hold onto our lead and that for me was our greatest undoing in the game. I was planning to bring in a midfielder when I spotted the loophole before Enyimba equalised,”he said.

“I won’t say for sure that the match will end in penalty shootout. I remain an optimist but something inside me is telling me the encounter might end that way.

“So what we did was to prepare for everything, as a coach I train my wards for the unseen, the unexpected so that when the unexpected happens you won’t be found wanting.

“Nothing happens in football by magic, you must train for the known and unknown as well as anticipate everything.
