    Traffic diversion begins as Ogudu-Ifako bridge repair enters phase two

    The Lagos State Government will begin the second phase of rehabilitation works on the Ogudu-Ifako Bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area.

    The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (Lastma), Mr Olalekan Bakare Oki, has appealed to motorists to obey traffic rules and cooperate with officers during the period.

    The exercise, which focuses on the expansion joints of the bridge inbound Lagos Island, will run from Tuesday August 19 to Wednesday October 1.

    Bakare Oki said traffic would be diverted into a single lane about 50 metres before the construction zone, with full access restored 50 metres after the site.

    He advised motorists heading to Oshodi to use the Ojota Slip Road linking Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony by Taxi Park.

    Those going to Victoria Island, he said, can divert through Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony by Town Planning Way, then connect Gbagada and access Third Mainland Bridge.

    They may also use Ikorodu Road inbound Funsho Williams Avenue to reach Eko Bridge and Lagos Island.

    For motorists from Ikeja and surrounding areas, he suggested the Maryland route through Ikorodu Road or Funsho Williams Avenue, then onward to Eko Bridge and Outer Marina. 

    They may also link Ikorodu Road inbound Anthony by Taxi Park to Oshodi.

    The Lastma boss assured that officers have been deployed to enforce lane discipline, ensure free flow and respond swiftly to emergencies. He said tow trucks and other equipment have been stationed along diversion routes to handle breakdowns and accidents.

    He urged motorists to remain patient and disciplined. “The partial closure is a vital part of the state’s traffic management plan designed to deliver lasting infrastructure for the people,” he said.

    Lagos completes first phase of Ogudu-Ifako Bridge rehabilitation

    The Lagos State Government has completed the first phase of the Ogudu Ifako Bridge rehabilitation works inbound Alapere 11 days ahead of schedule.

    The project, which was expected to last 50 days, was completed in 39 days.

    Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, said the accelerated completion was made possible by the patience, cooperation and civic responsibility of Lagos residents and commuters.

    “Your steadfast support has been the linchpin of this accomplishment,” Giwa said, praising the exemplary conduct of the public throughout the works.

    He also commended officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority for maintaining order and ensuring free flow of traffic during the rehabilitation.

    With the first phase concluded, Giwa said work on the second phase would begin immediately. He urged road users to follow the alternative routes provided by the government and to continue exercising patience.

    “Let us remain steadfast in patience, exercise foresight in our journeys, and uphold our unity as we collectively progress toward the completion of this critical Ogudu Ifako Bridge,” he said.

    The government, he added, remains committed to delivering durable infrastructure that will improve public safety, ease transportation and strengthen the state’s economy.
