    Abiodun presents N1.7trn 2026 appropriation bill to Ogun Assembly

    Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Wednesday presented a N1,693,997,983,125 budget estimate to the State House of Assembly for scrutiny and approval. 

    The plenary session was presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide.

    Describing it as a “Budget of Sustainable Legacy,” Governor Abiodun said the proposal comes at a time when the state is experiencing “improved economic growth, investor confidence, and inclusive development.” 

    He emphasised that the 2026 Appropriation Bill is designed as a “financial plan to consolidate the legacies of the administration over the past six years.”

    Unlike last year’s presentation, where the former Speaker, Hon. Kunle Oluomo, had been absent following his removal on January 23, 2024, Oluomo was present during this year’s budget submission.

    Governor Abiodun urged lawmakers to expedite consideration and approval of the budget.

    This year’s budget estimate is significantly higher than the out – going year Appropriation Bill which stood at N1,054,542,020,147.47 which was presented before the 26 – member State lawmakers on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

    ‎Responding, Speaker Oludaisi Elemide assured of quick and meticulous scrutinizing of the budget and give it speedy consideration and approval.

    ‎In attendance at this year’s budget presentation ceremony included retired head of Service, Shola Adeyemi, former Speakers – Titi Oseni, Bashorun Muyiwa Oladipo and Tunji Egbetokun, House of Reps member Tunji Akinosi, Secretary to Government of Ogun State(SSG),Tokunboh Talabi, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, representative of Akarigbo of Remolwnd; Babatunde Ajayi, past deputy governors – Engr. Segun Adesegun, Chief (Mrs) Yetunde Onanuga and Chief (Mrs) Salmot Badru.

    Ogun Assembly confirms Abiodun’s nominees for statutory commissions

    Ogun Assembly has confirmed Governor Dapo Abiodun’s nominees for statutory commissions.

    The Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi (APC-Yewa South), read the report of the committee of the Whole House on the screening of the governor’s nominees during plenary yesterday.

    Ajayi said the Committee of the Whole, headed by the Speaker, Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda), found the nominees to be eligible, qualified and suitable for the position.

    The Deputy Speaker moved motion for the adoption of the report and it was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye (PDP-Odogbolu).

    The Assembly’s Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, (APC-Ado Odo Ota 1) moved the motion converting the report into House resolution, and it was seconded by Adeleye.

    The Speaker directed that the House resolution on the confirmation of the nominees be forwarded to the governor for necessary action.

    News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Assembly had on March 25 acknowledged a request from the governor for the screening and confirmation of nominees for various statutory commissions in the state.

    According to the letter, the Local Government Service Commission will have Olubukunola Onabanjo as Chairman, with Lukman Adiro, Martins Ijaduoye, Abiodun Osunbiyi and Olatunde Rufai as members.

    For the State Teaching Service Commission, Abiodun Sanyaolu will serve as Chairman, while members are Olanrewaju Majekodunmi, Deola Akintonde, Adeleke Salmon, Atinuke Bello, and Kemi Oduwole.

    The State House of Assembly Service Commission has Suraj Adekunbi as Chairman, while Samuel Odukoya, Fasiu Ajadi and Folakemi Akintayo will serve as members.

    The State Judicial Service Commission will be chaired by Justice M. A. Dipeolu, with Olusola Femi-Segun, Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, Saheed Oyede, and Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji will serve as members.

    Ogun Assembly passes Power Sector Bill

    Ogun State House of Assembly yesterday passed a bill seeking to improve electricity generation, transmission and distribution.

    News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bill also seeks to establish an electricity market and key power sector bodies, as well as enforce consumer rights and obligations.

    Mrs Bolanle Ajayi (APC-Yewa South), the Deputy Speaker, presented the report of the Committee of the Whole during plenary in Abeokuta.

    She moved the motion for the adoption of the report, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye (PDP -Odogbolu).

    Mr Yusuf Serif (APC-Ado Odo Ota 1), the Majority Leader, moved the motion for the third reading of the bill and it was seconded by Adeleye.

    NAN reports that the lawmakers had during the second reading of the bill on August 28 took turns to debate the desirability of the bill.

    Some of them, however, thanked the federal and state governments, as well as the National Assembly, for moving the issue of electricity from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List.

    They noted that it allowed states to generate, transmit and distribute electricity within their jurisdiction.

    The legislators said the initiative would assist in promoting healthy competition among electricity operators, create enabling environment for industries and boost business investment.

    Ogun Assembly passes 24 motions, seven bills in one year

     Mr Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda) , the Speaker, Ogun Assembly, on Thursday said that the 10th assembly had passed 24 motions into resolutions and seven bills into law since its inception  on June 20, 2023.

    Elemide disclosed this during a special plenary at the assembly complex in Abeokuta to commemorate its first year since inauguration.

    The speaker explained that seven other bills were at various stages of legislative process.

    He noted that each of the bills passed touched on the day-to-day running of government in the state, including the yearly appropriation bill.

    Elemide said that various issues that required urgent public importance and immediate attention of government to enhance socio-economic and political development of the state were given immediate attention through House Resolutions.

    ” Today is not just an anniversary for merry making, rather it is a day to rejoice that the sanctity of the legislative arm in the State is being restored to deliver on its core duties and responsibilities,” he said.

    The speaker appreciated Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his efforts in turning around the fortunes of the state for better.

    He implored his colleagues to continue to work collectively for the overall success of the current administration in the state.

    In their various remarks, the lawmakers commended the governor for non- interference in their legislative oversights.

    The lawmakers equally extolled the leadership style of the speaker, which had helped in repositioning the assembly to record laudable achievements within a short time.

    The special plenary had in attendance former speakers of the assembly including Muyiwa Oladipo, Titi Sodunke- Gomez, Tunji Egbetokun and Suraju Adekunbi.

    Ogun Assembly inaugurates committee to investigate impeached Speaker

    The Ogun House of Assembly on Monday inaugurated an eight-man committee to examine the response by former Speaker Olakunle Oluomo (APC-Ifo I) to allegations leveled against him before his impeachment.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oluomo was impeached by 18 of the House’s 26 lawmakers during plenary on Tuesday.

    The committee was set up at plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi (APC-Yewa South), after she informed the lawmakers of Oluomo’s response.

    NAN reports that the lawmakers had listed against him various offences, including gross misconduct bothering on highhandedness, lack of focus and transparency, financial misappropriation, among others.

    Meeting for the first time after the impeachment saga, the House led by the Deputy Speaker deliberated on the former Speaker’s response.

    Ajayi who presided over plenary during the impeachment advised that Oluomo should step aside pending the outcome of the report of the committee set up to look into the matter.

    The House thereafter went ahead to constitute the committee which has Musefiu Lamidi (APC -Ado Odo/Ota II) as Chairman.

    The committee also has Oluseun Adesanya as Vice-Chairman, with Babatunde Tella (APC-Abeokuta North), Damilola Soneye (APC-Obafemi Owode) and Lukman Adeleye (PDP-Odogbolu) as other members.

    Other members of the committee are Fola Salami (APC-Ifo II) and Olusegun Odunuga (APC-Ijebu North II).

    The House’s Director of Legislative Services, Mr. Temitope Hokon, will serve as Secretary.(NAN)

    BREAKING: Ogun Assembly speaker Kunle Oluomo impeached

    The Ogun State House of Assembly’s speaker, Kunle Oluomo, has been impeached.

    During Tuesday’s plenary session, 18 out of the 36 members of the State Assembly voted in favour of Oluomo’s impeachment.

    Oluomo was impeached on charges of embezzlement, haughtiness, and other offenses.

    Ogun Assembly passes 2024 N703b Appropriation Bill

    Ogun House of Assembly yesterday passed the state’s 2024 Appropriation Bill of N703.028 billion  after reviewing the capital and recurrent expenditures of 18 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

    The House Committee Chairman on Finance and Appropriation, Musefiu Lamidi (APC-Ado Odo Ota II), had presented the report of the committee on the budget to the Committee of the whole House.

    He subsequently moved a motion for its adoption and was seconded by Damilola Soneye (APC-Obafemi Owode).

    According to the report, the first schedule saw to the upward review of recurrent expenditure in the budget proposals for some ministries,

    There was the slashing of revenue target from N210.24 billion to N198.74 billion, a reduction of N11.5 billion

    Revenue from excess crude was raised from N3.84 billion to N13.84 billion, an increase of N10billion.

    Anticipated capital receipt was increased from N128.37 billion to N136.87 billion, an upward review of N8.5 billion.

    The bill was later considered and adopted clause-by-clause by the Committee of Supply led by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo (APC-Ifo I).

    The Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff (APC-Ado Odo Ota I), moved the motion for the third reading of the bill and was seconded by the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye (PDP-Odogbolu).

    Mr Deji Adeyemo, the Clerk of the House, took the third reading of the bill.

    Speaker Oluomo directed that a clean copy of the bill be transmitted to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

    Abiodun presented 2024 budget of N703.028 billion to the House last month.

    It was made of N415.65 billion for capital expenditure, and N287.37 billion for recurrent expenditure.

  • Ogun Assembly holds talk-shop on cash and food crops

    Ogun State House of Assembly will on Tuesday, 14th May, 2019 hold a stakeholders’ forum on “H.B. No. 035/OG/2019- the Ogun State Cash and Food Crops Marketing Board Law, 2018- A Bill for a law to Establish the Ogun State Cash and Food crops Marketing Board to make provision for the purchase of produce for export and for matters connected therewith”.

    The meeting would take place at the Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta at 10:00am prompt and all relevant stakeholders to be seated by 9.30 am.

    A release signed by the Clerk of the Assembly, Engr. Jonathan Onajobi, indicated that the forum was meant to garner inputs from relevant stakeholders for the creation of a viable marketing board, which among other functions, would identify various agricultural farm produce, where the State has local and international comparative advantage; thereby positioning players in the agricultural sector to key into globally acceptable farming practices.

     

  • Ogun assembly passes three bills on name change for TASCE, others

    The Ogun Assembly on Tuesday, passed three bills seeking to alter the nomenclature of some state-owned higher institutions.

    Those effected included Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese-Ijebu, Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa and Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu- Ijebu.

    The passage of the amendment bills had resulted in the name change of Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese-Ijebu to Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu.

    The Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa had been amended to reflect its new name as Ogun Institute of Technology, Igbesa, while the Tai Solarin College of Education(TASCE), Omu- Ijebu has now changed to Ogun State College of Education, Jobore-Omu.

    The passage of the bills entitled,” Ogun State College of Health Technology  (Amendment) Law, 2018, Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa (Amendment) Law, 2018 and the Tai-Solarin College of Education, Omu  (Amendment), Law, 2018”, at a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi , was aimed at ensuring improved service delivery.

    The passage of the bills followed the presentations of the report of the Committee on Education, Science and Technology on the three bills respectively by its Chairman, Olayiwola Ojodu.

    Ojodu  equally moved the motion for adoption which was seconded by Mr Idowu Olowofuja and supported by the whole House.

    The motion was supported by the Whole House through a voice vote after which the bill was later read and adopted clause by clause by the Committee of the Whole House.

    Adekunbi, directed that clean copies of the bills be forwarded to  Gov. Ibikunle Amosun for his assent.

    Earlier, the Speaker  had urged the members of the coalition of academic and non-academic unions at the Tai-Solarin College of Education (TASCE) to allow the Assembly intervene to help address issues relating to the backlog of salaries and allowances.

    The Speaker had made the appeal while responding to the submission of the Minority Leader, Olawale Alausa , on the need to resolve issues affecting the institution.

    He implored the workers of the institution to resume to work to enable the Assembly engage necessary stakeholders toward resolving all industrial issues amicably.

    Adekunbi explained that the assembly as part of its quasi-judicial functions had been engaging all concerned parties on the state of affairs of the institution.(NAN)

  • Amosun presents N402.63b budget of Enduring Legacy to Ogun Assembly

    Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun yesterday presented a budget estimate of N402.63 billion to the House of Assembly as next year’s Appropriation Bill.

    The estimate represents 17 per cent increase over the outgoing year’s budget of N345.4 billion.

    A breakdown of the estimate, naed: Budget of Enduring Legacy, shows that N254.005 billion is for capital expenditure, representing 63.1 per cent, while Personnel Cost, which consists of Pension and Gratuities, will take N22.20 billion.

    Also, the estimate for salaries and allowances is put at N74.43 billion, while the recurrent expenditure has N148.57 billion, representing 36.90 per cent.

    The overhead cost is fixed at N41.447 billion.

    Amosun said N161.24 billion of the budget estimate would be sourced through Internally Generated Revenue (IGR); N44 billion from the Federation Account, and N101.38 billion from capital receipts.

    The governor said other receipts will provide N80 billion, representing 19.80 per cent of the total funding.

    He said Education will get the lion share of N88.57 billion, representing 22 per cent, with N22.54 billion allocated to the Health sector and N20.13 billion to various agricultural production and industrialisation programmes.

    Amosun added that N53.14 billion will cater for affordable housing and urban renewal; N82.53 billion for rural and infrastructural development/employment generation and N135.68 billion for other sectors.

    Speaker Suraj Adekunbi assured the governor that he and members of the Eighth Assembly would work for a speedy passage of the budget.

    He said the Assembly would partner other arms of government through people-oriented legislation for the execution of new projects and completion of ongoing infrastructural facilities across the state.

    The Speaker recalled that this year alone, the Assembly passed 21 bills, while 18 others were under various legislative processes.

    Adekunbi said 50 motions were passed into resolutions, adding that the Assembly carried out its annual oversight functions to ensure judicious use of funds, in line with the Appropriation Act.
