“But I also want to point out that there are many bottlenecks on the road; for example, the Ogun River base. So, we are likely to experience the same problem there where we will have several stages of traffic management.

  • Quality education hinged on school-parent partnership

Quality education hinged on school-parent partnership

The Chairman of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Ijebu-North, Ogun State, Mr Olusoga Adesanya has said the slide in quality education, not quantity, can be stopped if parents and schools partner together.
Adesanya said the difference between the education gotten by the fore father’s of the country and those of preceding generations is why most students of today are cult members,as the core of quality education was missed during the process.
He said this over the weekend in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State at the fifth anniversary celebrations and second graduation ceremony of Greater Heights Academy.
Adesanya, who was the keynote speaker, said indications of declining quality and wastage in the education system include high drop-out and failure rates, rampant examination malpractices, poor reading and writing skills evident in the swarming population of students who repeat promotional exams every year.
He said the partnership is because schools and parents have little understanding of each other’s interests in children and schools as most teachers do not know the goals that parents have for their children.
He said Parents-School partnership at investing in quality education connotes the striving together of both the school and the parents to assure sound academic achievement for their wards and children and creating that partnership especially around academics is what works for student achievement.
“Successful parent participation in education and effectiveness help parents acquire and co-opt parenting and problem solving skills necessary to build a healthy and good family and school systems work better with the children from such homes who come into them,” he asserted.
The Proprietor and Chief Executive Officer, Greater Heights Academy, Mr Timi Owolabi said the schools mission of ‘raising in partnership with parents and guardians,God-fearing,intelligent and morally upright pupils that will impact their generation positively through provision of quality instructions and enabling environment for learning’,takes into cognisance the need for the partnership.
Owolabi said the school have continued to maintain low teacher-pupil ratio, and encourage personal growth of their pupils, since primary education is the foundational  years through which pupils should be nurtured well as tomorrow’s leaders, hence the schools development of good study habits, moral values, self discipline and esteem among its pupils.
He said the graduands tagged ‘The Pace Setters’ should be celebrated on their feats as graduation means moving to the next stage of life and he is confident that the students will do well in their various future careers.
The outgoing head girl of the school, Miss Ismot Adesanya said she is glad to be moving forward to secondary school as she is privileged to be in class 2016 where the students are gifted in different fields.
Greater Heights Academy is a creche, nursery and primary school.
