    Ogunjimi elected Deputy Chair of AAAG committee

    Nigeria’s Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has been elected Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the African Association of Accountants General (AAAG).

    His election was announced during the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on July 28, 2025, in Accra, Ghana. The meeting brought together Accountants General from the 22 member states of the AAAG to deliberate on the continent’s public financial management (PFM) agenda.

    A statement from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Bawa Mokwa, described Ogunjimi’s election as a recognition of Nigeria’s growing role in promoting fiscal transparency and sound public sector accounting in Africa.

    As Deputy Chairperson, Ogunjimi will be involved in steering the Association’s strategic direction, particularly in strengthening the implementation of modern PFM systems across member countries. His responsibilities will include fostering regional cooperation, supporting reforms in public sector accounting practices, and working with counterparts to drive innovation in government financial management.

    The AAAG, established in July 2023 under the auspices of the African Union Commission, is a continental platform for Accountants General to share knowledge, set standards, and promote best practices in public financial administration. Since its inception, the Association has focused on deepening transparency and accountability in government finances across Africa.

    With 22 countries currently participating, the AAAG aims to harmonize public accounting systems and encourage transparency and efficiency in the management of public funds. It also provides a forum for peer learning and technical support among its members.

    Nigeria’s representation in the top leadership of the AAAG is seen as a boost to the country’s ongoing reforms in public finance and a platform to contribute actively to shaping continental fiscal governance policies.

    Almost a week after the opening ceremony, organisers of the 22nd National  Sports Festival otherwise known as Gateway Games Ogun 2024, has yet been commended for delivering an event that  will be remembered for years to come.

    According to Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, President of the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club (ANFASSC),the opening ceremony would forever be in the memory.

    “From the grand entry of athletes to the rich blend of culture, exceptional entertainment, and choreography, the atmosphere was nothing short of spectacular and a one-of-a-kind sports experience,” he said.

    “The efforts of the organising committee deserve the highest praise. It was evident that great attention had been paid to detail – logistics flowed seamlessly, performances were well-timed, and every segment contributed to a unified and purposeful celebration.

    “The National Sports Commission led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General  Bukola Olapade equally played a significant role in ensuring the success of the event. Their guidance and support have reinforced the importance of institutional leadership in the continued growth of Nigeria’s sports sector.

    “This synergy between government agencies and event organisers has once again proven effective in delivering results that inspire pride.

    “What we witnessed in Abeokuta is more than a ceremony; it was a statement about Nigeria’s readiness to lead through sports. ANFASSC is proud to stand with those who organise, support, and elevate Nigerian talent on every stage. We commend the sports ministry, the host state, and all stakeholders for a remarkable beginning. This festival will be remembered – not just for the medals – but for the message of hope and unity it carries,”  said Ogunjimi.

    “Special recognition must also go to the government and people of Ogun State. As hosts, under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, they are not only welcomed the nation with open arms but also showcased the state’s cultural richness and organisational capacity. “The infrastructure upgrades, crowd management, and warm hospitality were all clear indicators of their commitment to excellence.

    “The opening ceremony was more than a formal beginning – it was a celebration of Nigeria’s diversity and resilience.It brought together athletes, supporters, and sports lovers from across the country in a shared moment of pride.”

    He added: “ANFASSC remains proud to support initiatives that unify and promote the best of Nigerian sports.

    “As the festival progresses, we look forward to more inspiring performances, positive narratives, and moments that reinforce our collective hope in the future of sports in this country.”

    JUST IN: Tinubu appoints Ogunjimi as Acting Accountant General of Federation

    President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

    The appointment, which takes immediate effect, follows the pre-retirement leave of the outgoing AGF, Dr. (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.

    In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu emphasized the critical role of the Accountant General’s office in managing the nation’s treasury.

    “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr. Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda”, the President said.

    Mr. Ogunjimi, a career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), brings over three decades of experience in financial management across the public and private sectors.

    His extensive career includes serving as Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

    As a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist, Mr. Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Accountancy and a Master’s degree in Finance and Accounting.

    His expertise and qualifications align with the administration’s treasury policy reforms.

    In announcing the appointment, President Tinubu commended Dr. Madein for her service and dedication to the nation.

    “I commend Dr. Madein for her dedication and selfless service to the nation,” he remarked.

    Dr. Madein, who will officially retire on March 7, 2025, after reaching the statutory retirement age for civil servants, leaves a legacy of dedication in the administration of Nigeria’s treasury.

    The appointment of Mr. Ogunjimi is part of President Tinubu’s efforts to ensure a seamless transition in the treasury management operations and consolidate reforms aimed at strengthening the nation’s financial systems.

    Ogunjimi’s death was announced by a Yoruba actor, Kunle Afod, in a post on his Instagram page.

    Mourning the actor, Afod wrote, “We tried our best but God loves you more.
