  • Ohanaeze Youths urge Soludo to end leadership crisis in APGA

Ohanaeze Youths urge Soludo to end leadership crisis in APGA

The Ohanaeze Youth Council, the premier socio-cultural organisation of Ndigbo youth worldwide, has urged Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo to reconcile with Chief Edozie Njoku’s leadership of the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA)and avoid establishing precedent similar to those set by Governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano.

National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Comrade Igboayaka O.Igboayaka in a statement on Friday,  called upon Governor Soludo to invoke the ‘Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya’ (Don’t leave your brother) principle and foster unity within APGA by adopting a ‘No Victor No Vanquish’ stance, backing Chief Edozie Njoku’s leadership following the Supreme Court’s APGA leadership ruling.

“APGA’s prolonged internal party leadership crisis, persisting since 2019, is a lamentable and unfortunate phenomenon in Nigeria’s and Africa’s political landscape,” he noted.

Igboayaka said that the leadership impasse in APGA is attributable to internal democratic deficits, underscoring Governor Charles Soludo’s reluctance to accept the Supreme Court’s judgment, which validates Chief Edozie Njoku’s position as APGA’s legitimate Chairman in 2023 and subsequent recognition by Independent Election Commission (INEC)

“It is unfortunate that AGPA, established on Igbo principles by Chief Chekwas Okorie to launch Ndigbo into national politics since 2002, has faced considerable obstacles due to exploitative politicians from Anambra.

“Peter Obi, Willie Obiano, and Charles Soludo, among others from Anambra, have contributed to APGA’s decline into political obscurity in the Southeast, whereas Bola Tinubu’s AD successfully transitioned into the prominent national party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

“It’s disappointing that APGA has failed to achieve substantial political milestones in the Southeast, unlike the ACN, led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which dominated the Southwest and evolved into a national party that wrested power from the People’s Democratic Party in 2015.

“Mr. Peter Obi, Willie Obiano, and Charles Soludo’s impact on Igbo history will be defined by their role in APGA’s reduction to a single-state entity or political irrelevance. Conversely, Governor Charles Soludo can revitalize his image and APGA’s prospects by ending his dispute with Chief Edozie Njoku’s leadership, thereby revitalizing APGA as a compelling political force for Ndigbo, poised to secure electoral triumphs throughout the Southeast in 2027.”

The Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has submitted a proposal for a Draft Bill for the Federation of South East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu states with Igbos in Delta and Rivers opting to join them.

The National President of the group Arthur Obiora said the Draft bill has been sent to all state Houses of Assembly in the East for deliberation and passage.

He noted that in view of the socio-political and structural conflicts in Nigeria it has become necessary for Nigeria to go back to regional system with a level of autonomy for the federating regions.

He hoped the bill would be passed and other parts of Nigeria do the same.

  • Ohanaeze youths, others back Amina Zakari’s appointment

The OYC made its position known after a meeting with the coalition comprising   World Igbo Youth Congress, Southeast Women Professionals, Igbo Students Movement and Forum of Biafra Agitators.

President General of OYC, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro,   said Mrs. Zakari’s appointment  “ will not influence the voting pattern especially that of Igbo votes across the 36 states of country as counting will be live on electronic media.

  • Ignore N30,000 minimum wage, forget second term –Ohanaeze youths tell S’East govs

SOUTHEast governors seeking second term in office have been advised against toying  with the demand for  N30, 000 as minimum wage by labour unions. The President of Ohaneze-Ndigbo  Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro gave the  advice yesterday in a telephone chat with The Nation. Alarmed by reports that

some of the governors said they would not be able to pay the sum, Isiguzoro said any governor, especially those seeking second term who is averse to paying the amount should forget his ambition, adding that the OYC would mobilise the  labour unions  to press for the payment of the sum in the zone.

“It is worrisome that some governors are already saying that they can’t pay N30, 000 a month as minimum wage. How much is the money that the governors cannot pay? Any governor who cannot pay the sum should forget second term. We would mobilise workers and labour unions  against such governors because the workers’ welfare has

been taken for granted  for long. A labourer deserves not just a wage but a deserving one.  We learnt that Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ipkeazu has agreed to pay the said sum. That is a cheering news if he eventually does that. We want to use this opportunity to tell other governors from the zone to do the same to improve the living standard of the workers.”

  • Ohanaeze youths insist on Vice Presidential slot for Southeast

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council has reiterated its warning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to give the Vice Presidential slot to the Southeast or lose its support.

The group stated this at the end of an emergency stakeholders’ meeting in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, with 44 affiliated youth groups.

The meeting, which was presided over by the President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, deliberated on the 2019 election and the state of the Igbo Nation.

The group raised alarm that the PDP has perfected plans to deny the Southeast the Vice Presidential ticket and give it to the Southwest after the primaries

Isiguzoro said: “We see this plot as wickedness and political treachery against Ndigbo who paid for the survival of PDP since 1999. We, therefore, warn the leadership of PDP that they shouldn’t toil with the people of Southeast as regards to the Vice Presidential slot, or prepare to lose the votes of Igbo youths in 2019.”

The group threatened to only vote PDP in other elections but sink it in the presidential election if Southeast is denied the slot.

It also argued that any of the Southeast Governors or former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi are qualified to be Vice President and will attract Igbo Youths votes in 36 States of the federation to the PDP.

  • IYC, Ohanaeze youths back pro-restructuring candidates

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) at the weekend appealed to their members to support pro-restructuring candidates irrespective of their parties in 2019.

Leaders of the groups, who met at Ijaw House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, urged members to vote in those supporting restructuring.

The Igbo leaders comprised Southsouth Coordinator of OYC Chief Chinedu Arthur-Ugwa; Southsouth Secretary of OYC Ogoegbunam Ifeanyi; OYC leaders  Remy Agwuzie (Cross River); Chief Chris Ezeukwu (Delta State); Ezeilo Franklin (Rivers State); and Chief Nelson Udeze (Akwa Ibom).

The Igbo leaders’ delegation later  met with the leadership of IYC, Central Zone, chaired by Mr. Tari Porri.

Prior to the meeting, the Igbo delegates, in a communique signed by Franklin, called on the Federal Government to  restructure the country.

“It has become more strident even as it has been generally agreed by all ethnic nationalities and even the political party at the centre that there is a need to restructure the Nigerian state for better efficiency”, they said.

The Igbo leaders asked multinational companies to relocate their headquarters to Niger Delta in line with directives of the Presidency.

They said the relocation would enhance harmonious relationship between oil companies and host communities and enthrone mutual trust, respect and peace.

The leaders emphasised the need for mutual co-existence  between the Southsouth and SouthEast for development.

In a meeting with Porri, Aurthur-Ugwa, Bayelsa State president of OYC said youths were planning a summit on restructuring.

Porri hailed his Igbo counterparts for their position on restructuring, saying it was in tandem with the views of Governor, Seriake Dickson.

He said youths would support only pro-restructuring candidates in the elections.

“We have resolved to have a cordial relationship with the Igbos across the world. Anywhere you see Igbo man and Ijaw man we are friends and brothers. This will further encourage us to be our brothers’ keepers.

“We have also reaffirmed our commitment, support and solidarity with our fathers around the world on the resolution that the 2019 general election is a referendum on restructuring.

“The youth wings of Ijaw nation and Ohanaeze have resolved that we are working together to vote for a presidential candidate that believes in the restructuring of this country”, he said.

  • New leadership calms Ohanaeze youths

After unleashing a barrage of attacks on its parent body, the Ohanaeze Youth Council led by Okechukwu Isiguzoro has been finally shoved aside. The youth arm of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, now has a new leadership. In a well-attended election held at the headquarters of the Igbo umbrella body, Arthur Obiora beat two other contenders to clinch the position of the youth president.

The keenly contested and peaceful ballot started with accreditation of delegates from the seven Igbo-speaking states of Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers.

Obiora from Anambra polled a total of 147 votes out of 187. The election has put paid to the press war declared by the Ikechukwu Isiguzoro-led youth wing, which was dissolved two years ago by the Ime Obi of Ohanaeze Ndigbo during the tenure of Chief Enwo Igariwey.

The leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo under the leadership of Chief John Nnia Nwodo sustained that dissolution hence Isiguzoro declared media war on the parent body.

In the ensuing face-off, the dissolved youth wing “suspended” and later “sacked” the President General of the umbrella organisation, Chief Nnia Nwodo. It declared Prince Eze Ozobu the new president-general of Ohanaeze. But Ozobu distanced himself from the appointment.

Media aide to the Ohanaeze leader, Emeka Attamah described the episode as funny. He said: “I wonder where that boy (Isiguzoro) derived the powers to challenge his father. I wonder who is sponsoring him. Can you imagine where a disowned child is sacking the father from the house.”

Attama, however, said with the election concluded, the positions of the Youth wing which had been vacant since 2016 have now been filled.

“This has put to paid once and for all the issue of leadership of the Youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Ohanaeze Ndigbo charge them that the principle of be thy neighbour’s keeper should be adhered to and urged them to always work in concert with the parent body of Ohanaeze for the progress and development of Igbo land,” said Attama.

And in a statement issued before the election by the national publicity secretary of Ohanaeze, Achi Okpaga the apex Igbo body  said that the recent exposure of the crimes committed by the defunct Okechukwu Isiguzoro leadership of the Youth Wing of the organization by the immediate past President General, Prof. Enwo Igariwey, has exposed and punctured the balloon of lies being flown by the nonexistent leadership.

Okpaga said that the refusal by the President General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, to join issues with the recalcitrant young man and his co-travellers gave the offending youngsters the freedom to engage unchallenged in their media war.

Okpaga stated that the timely “exposure of the shenanigans and unsubstantiated claims of the illegal leadership has brought to the foreground a number of issues.

The first is that it is evident that the said Isiguzoro has no locus standi to lay claim to the leadership of the youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, neither does he have the powers, constitutional or otherwise, to summon, discipline or sack the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and, therefore, all he has been saying are empty threats and lies.

The second is that the crimes for which the leadership of the said body was disbanded have been exposed as Prof. Igariwey said it was for “financial recklessness, extortion, misrepresentation and unruly behaviour” which he said dragged the image of the parent body to the mud.”

He further stated: “According to Prof. Igariwey, during his regime as President General, the then youth wing led by Isiguzoro operated as if “there were two parallel bodies taking decisions and making unguided utterances in the media without the permission or consent of the parent body and efforts made to bring him to order fell on deaf ears”.

Evidently, Mr Isiguzoro is an upstart and has inordinate crave for power which having eluded him, he is now struggling to have by hook or crook by moving around collecting money from governments and individuals under false pretense.

Thirdly, most purported signatories to the phantom sack of Chief Nwodo, such as Mr Adibe, have denied knowledge and signing of any such letter, thereby exposing the criminal-mindedness of the initiator and purveyor of such a letter.”

Okpaga observed that it befuddles the mind that a body that was sacked by the Ime-Obi, the highest decision-making body of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and during the regime of his predecessor in office, will now attempt to terrorise him nearly two years after their sack.

He lamented that the fact that journalists are aware of the illegality of the so-called Isiguzoro leadership of Ohanaeze Youth Wing and still publish their senseless tirades raises a lot of questions, adding that a similar affront against the parent body of Afenifere or Area Consultative Forum would have been visited with severe sanctions by elders of the region.

Okpaga regretted that Governors and traditional rulers of Igbo-speaking states were allowing such a hallowed institution and the symbol of Igbo unity to be so denigrated.

  • Ohanaeze youths to name corrupt politicians

The Youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) said it has compiled the names of corrupt politicians and looters of the public treasury in the Southeast for submission to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The list contains names of past and present looters of public funds.

A statement by OYC’s president, Okechukwu Isiguzoro said the list would soon be made public and there will be no hiding place for such characters that brought woes to Ndigbo.

OYC also called on similar groups in other zones to follow suit so that the nation will be sanitised.

“Efforts should be made to prosecute these looters to serve as deterrence to others.

The list is very comprehensive and OYC will ensure that the loots are returned to Ndigbo and Nigerians,” Isiguzoro said.
