    Ojodu holds stakeholders’ forum on road construction

    The Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has held a stakeholders’ forum on the proposed Adeshina-Adeniyi Oke Road.

    Chairman of the council, David Odunmbaku, said the proposed reconstruction project of the road is a testament to his unwavering commitment to community development. “Through this project, we aim to not only rehabilitate the road but also enhance its infrastructure to meet the needs of our growing community. This includes widening the road, improving drainage systems, and installing adequate street lighting for enhanced safety and visibility,” he said.

    He, however, emphasised that the stakeholders’ inputs and feedbacks are crucial to the success of the project.

    He said: “Your firsthand experiences and perspectives will help us tailor our efforts to best serve the needs of the community. Therefore, I encourage each of you to actively participate in today’s discussion, share your concerns, and propose any suggestions you may have.

    “Furthermore, I assure you that transparency and accountability will remain at the forefront of this project. We will provide regular updates on the progress of the reconstruction efforts and ensure that your voices are heard every step of the way. Let us approach this endeavour with optimism, unity, and a shared vision for a brighter future for Adeshina-Adeniyi Oke road and our community as a whole. Together, we can overcome any obstacle and build a better tomorrow for generations to come.”

    The council boss hailed the participants, saying that participation and engagement showed their dedication to the betterment of the community.

    “Your input and insights are invaluable as we work together to address the challenges facing our beloved Adeshina-Adeniyi Oke road. We are all too familiar with the difficulties posed by the current state of the road. The potholes, uneven surfaces, and congestion not only impede the smooth flow of traffic but also pose safety hazards to pedestrians and motorists alike. As your elected representatives, it is our duty to address these issues and ensure that our community thrives,” he said.

    Ojodu council chief renders account of stewardship

    The Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Segun Odunmbaku, has rendered the account of his stewardship since he assumed of office.

    During the media parley, Odunmbaku outlined some of the achievements as encapsulated into his Health, Education, Youth and Women Development and Social and Infrastructural Development (H.E.Y.S) Agenda which, he said, is in tandem with the THEMES+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government (to aid intergovernmental collaborations for development) as well as the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) .

    The council boss listed the construction and renovation of roads, including Fadeyi Street, Paul Avenue and Umaru Saro Drive.

    He also talked about the upgrading of primary healthcare centers (including provision of alternative energy to boost healthcare services), incessant free medical/surgical interventions and health insurance for 1000 residents, donation of JAMB and GCE Forms with coaching classes, 600 sets of furniture and 50,000 books to primary and junior schools to cater to the educational needs of the community.

    Additionally, Odunmbaku listed initiatives executed towards improving the standard of living for the residents, such as grants and loans for small businesses, provision of palliatives like free buses and subsidised food, bursary and scholarships for indigent students, cash empowerments for traders, supports for the senior citizens and persons living with disabilities, and vocational trainings for youths.

    While fielding questions on infrastructural development, Odunmbaku reiterated his administration’s commitment to the construction and completion of the proposed Eweobaja market, Recreational Centre, mini general hospital at Ogba and other people-oriented social infrastructure for the betterment of the good people of Ojodu LCDA.

    He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive and open-door governance by partnering with well-meaning individuals, corporate and charitable organizations to cater for myriad of needs of the people.

    “OrganiSations such as Kennols, Lions Club, Rotary Club, WaterAid etc, have partnered with us to carry out various projects, complementing the efforts of our administration”, Odunmbaku said.

    Secretary to the council, Olaide Bello thanked the media personalities for gracing the parley that provided an opportunity to showcase the achievements of the administration. He restated the council’s commitment to improving the well-being of the residents.

    Junior Secondary and Primary Schools in Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have benefitted from the gesture of the Council Chairman Segun Odunmbaku.

    The Junior Secondary got 400 sets of Furniture while 50,000 exercise books were distributed to the Primary Schools.

    The gesture, Odunmbaku said, was to aid good learning for pupils.

    The council boss  admonished the authorities and administrators of the schools to ensure that the benches and desks were well maintained.

    “Let me seize this opportunity to encourage my wonderful children and our leaders of tomorrow to always put up good behaviours and focus on their studies while shunning violence, disobedience and other social vices that may jeopardise their future,” he said.

    He  lauded the  efforts of all the tutors and the parents who are resolute in ensuring the good success of the students.

    Represented by Secretary to the council, Olaide  Bello, Odunmbaku said the administration had made it a priority to improve the standard of education of children by providing necessary materials that would ensure their academic success in all ramifications.

    He further said educational programmes like donation of Free JAMB and GCE Forms, Teachers’ Empowerment, Coaching Classes, Upgrading of ICT Hub and Distribution of Back To School Kits would continue to be prioritised by the administration for educational development.

    Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has held the second Ojodu Carnival.

    Its Chairman, David Odunmbaku, said it was in fulfillment of his last year’s promise to establish the carnival as a yearly celebration.

    He said the significance of the carnival goes beyond entertainment but serve as a unifying factor for the local community and a platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage and values of the area.

    He emphasised the economic impact of the carnival, adding that it plays a role in boosting the local economy and supporting entrepreneurs within the council.

    He stressed the importance of providing a platform for local businesses to thrive and create opportunities for growth and development.

    Odunmbaku said:  “Ojodu Carnival is a platform that boosts our local economy; by positively projecting the brands and businesses within our LCDA. We create opportunities for growth and development. We recognise the importance of supporting our local entrepreneurs and creating an environment that fosters economic prosperity for all.

    “In addition to its economic significance, the carnival serves as a source of entertainment and stress relief for our people. We understand the challenges and pressures of daily life, and it is our duty to provide moments of joy and relaxation.The musical festival, which is a part of this year’s carnival, will undoubtedly bring laughter, happiness, and relief to the masses.”

    The council chair expressed his gratitude to the organising committees and stakeholders for their  efforts and dedication in making the event a reality and highlighted the exciting activities lined up for the enjoyment of attendees.

    Odunmbaku urged the community members to embrace the spirit of unity, celebrate their cultural heritage, and support local businesses as they partake in the festivities of the Ojodu Carnival.

    He expressed his hopes that the event would bring joy, prosperity, and lasting memories to all who attend.

    Ojodu screens 5,000 for free healthcare

    No fewer than 5,000 Lagosians have been screened in Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State  for its Health Mission.

    Council Chairman David Odunmbaku made this known on Monday, during the kick-off of the health programme at the Council Secretariat.

    He said the week-long exercise was aimed at providing quality healthcare and improves the residents’ standard of living.

    Odunmbaku said the initiative covered the expenses for various surgical operations, including Lipoma, breast lump, hernia, ganglion cyst, and hydrocele.

    He added that it also includes dental restorations, eye checks, and the distribution of free glasses to those in need.

    According to him, surgeries were scheduled for 200 patients who had undergone the screening.

    “A team of six highly skilled surgeons was assembled to perform these surgeries with expertise and precision, ensuring the best possible care for the patients. In a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, 20 individuals requiring major surgeries would be referred to secondary institutions, with all treatment expenses fully covered. The recovery process would also be closely monitored, ensuring the necessary care and attention.

    “In addition to surgical interventions, the mission aimed to improve vision and enhance the daily lives of those in need by distributing over 5,000 glasses to patients,” he said.

    The chairman noted that 30 ad-hoc officials, including doctors, midwives, and lab technicians were employed.

    “These dedicated individuals would complement the existing medical personnel, strengthening healthcare services in Ojodu LCDA and ensuring comprehensive and efficient care for the community,” he said.

    The chairman promised to revitalise the Primary Health Service Delivery and rehabilitate similar infrastructures.

    “Various initiatives, such as installing solar power systems, procuring an ambulance for emergency services, upgrading selected PHCs to provide 24-hour care, and forging partnerships with esteemed Non-Governmental organisations (NGOs,) have been implemented.These efforts were aimed at ensuring that residents of Ojodu LCDA could enjoy the benefits of grassroots governance and improved access to healthcare,” he stated.

    Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health District VI, Dr. Abimbola Mabogunje, and  Permanent Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Mustapha, admonished the community members to avail themselves of this opportunity and other people-oriented initiatives of the government.

    The duo also allayed the fear of the people towards the conspiracies surrounding vaccination.

    They noted that vaccination had been proven to be 100 per cent effective.

    They urged parents and guardians to release their wards.
