    Sunshine Stars striker Afolabi Okiki has joined Argentina’s Club Atletico Talleres de Cordoba on a year-long loan with an option for a permanent deal thereafter.

    The club announced the arrival of Okiki on their official website.

    Okiki was one of the leading scorers in the Nigeria league with 13 goals for Sunshine before he headed out to Argentina in June after sparking off interest from a rash of clubs in Norway and Israel.

    He is a big, powerful striker armed with a decent shot in his left foot.

    He has featured for Nigeria Olympic team.Talleres won the Primera B to join the top league in Argentina.

    They began life in the big-time league with a 1-1 draw at Racing.

    Okiki disowns NFF top shot, to sign for Argentine club

    Nigeria league joint leading scorer, Afolabi Okiki has disowned a former top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and he is set to sign a six-month contract with a top Argentine club this week.

    Former Shooting Stars left winger, Okiki scored 13 goals for Sunshine Stars in the Nigeria league, but quit the club over unpaid wages to jet out to Argentina last week, as first reported by AfricanFootball.com.

    A frantic former NFF chief, who claims to own the player through Prime FC, finally reached the player and his agent in Argentina to lay his claim only for him to be rebuffed by both of them.

    “The chief, who was calling from his home in South Africa, made a passionate plea to Okiki to return to Nigeria, promising that Sunshine Stars will pay all his unpaid salaries and anything else he needs. He also told him he has a deal for him in Europe,” a source told AfricanFootball.com.

    “The big man was so desperate that he even called the player’s wife, who he has never set eyes on, to plead with her husband to return to Nigeria.

    “But despite all the drama, Okiki told the big man he does not belong to him and he has never played for Prime and does not have an agreement with the club.”

    The former NFF chief has been involved with several other players including Mikel Obi and Kayode Olanrewaju.

    “The truth is that past and present NFF officials are all agents like this Baba,” another source told AfricanFootball.com.

    Several Norwegian clubs are now chasing joint leading scorer in the Nigeria league, Afolabi Okiki.

    AfricanFootball.com has specially gathered that Okiki, who has scored 13 goals same as Wikki Tourists star, Godwin Obaje, is now wanted by a host of Norwegian clubs because his rampaging style will fit in nicely with the football in that country.

    “He is big, strong, has speed and packs a good shot, and these qualities will make him a big hit in Norway,” said a top scout.

    Okiki, who at a time was involved with the Nigeria Olympic team, was originally a left winger at his first top club Shooting Stars, but his switch as top striker at Sunshine Stars appears to have brought out the best in him.

    Okiki Afolabi gains momentum in the race for NPFL golden boot

    Sunshine Stars’ hitman, Okiki Afolabi has closed the gap between him and the NPFL leading scorer, Godwin Obaje of Wikki Tourists to just one goal after he scored a brace for the Owena Waves in their dramatic 3-3 draw in Uyo against Akwa United.

    Obaje who led by three goals before the start of hostility yesterday fired blank in the Bauchi side 1-0 home win over El Kanemi Warriors as the vital strike was struck by Abubakar Lawal in the 57th minute to ensure that Wikki stayed on top of the league table till weekend league ties.

    But Okiki was very instrumental to Sunshine Stars’ thrilling comeback in Uyo after he scored twice in the 17th and 70th minutes to reduce the arrears to 3-2 before a dramatic equaliser at the dead by Dele Olorundare. Aniekan Ekpe, Fortune Omoniwari and Friday Ubong got Akwa United’s goals in the 22nd, 38th and 61st minutes of the encounter.

    Anthony Okpotu also scored his 10th goal of the season in Lobi Stars’ 3-1 home win over 3SC to stay within the touching distance of Obaje and Okiki. His goal, which was the Pride of Benue’s second of the game, came in the 51st minute after Nanen Imenger had given Lobi a fourth minute lead but Yinka Adedeji levelled the tie up in the 45th minute for his second goal in the last two matches.

  • OKIKI STORMS FUJI T’O BAM AUDITION VENUE

    TO encourage the contestants of the ongoing Goldberg Fuji t’o Bam, its reigning Wura 1, Akeem Okiki visited the venue of the 2016 Fuji talent hunt selection party held in Ilesa, Osun State.

    The Osun State-based fuji artiste, who won the grand prize for the third edition of the annual contest at the Trans Amusement Park, Ibadan, disclosed that he learnt a lot through participating in the competition.

    According to him, anybody who would triumph in the contest must be ready to satisfy the judges; whom he described as veterans in Fuji music.

    “The judges have their standards that any successful contestant must meet; otherwise such artistes would be shown the exit out of the competition,” he said.

    Okiki also performed to the delight of guests and fans who thronged the Waterside Centre, Ayeso Area in Ilesa, venue of the selection party.

    Meanwhile, each of the participating artistes took turns to thrill their fans and other Fuji enthusiasts, while the judges led by Muyideen Iyanda, Governor, Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), Osun State assessed their performances. Two other judges present at the occasion were ace broadcaster, Adebayo Faleke and Wasiu Alagbe Olaiya.

    The judges finally selected Fatai Adeniyi, Ayoola Olowookere, Yemi Oluwasegun, Ololade Isiaka and Ilesanmi Sogo for their stage craft and rendition. They would join successful contenders from other locations for the quarter final, which would later hold in Oyo town, Oyo State.

    Iyanda, an old-timer in the Fuji industry admonished the contestants to continue to be good ambassadors of Goldberg lager beer and Fuji music as the two have created a niche that will remain strong in the history of entertainment, particularly, Fuji music in Nigeria.
