- Okowa okays Junior Team Nigeria for maiden outing
African Games gold medallist and former African champion, Patience Okon-George, has been confirmed to compete in the women’s 400m at the highly anticipated AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet.
Fresh from an outstanding performance at the National Sports Festival in May, where she blazed to a new Festival Record of 51.64s, the veteran quarter-miler will be looking to build on that momentum and thrill fans once again.
The AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet offers yet another chance to witness one of Nigeria’s finest 400m runners in her element.
It was also gathered that veteran Olympian Mary Onyali would making appearance at the meet at YabaTech Sports Complex Ostensibly to promote Youth participation in Athletics.
Others star athletes are billed to run in the one-day meet backed by the Athletes Federation of Nigeria
Meanwhile, ahead of the CAA U-18,U-20 Championships billed for July 16 to 20 in Abeokuta, Team Nigeria’s junior relay teams will participate in the July 10th Athletics Federation of Nigeria/Dynamic Meet in Lagos.

“After almost one week of training, our team is coming together, and the athletes are in high spirits. They would be participating in the AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet.
“This will enable us see them in a competition mood and also an opportunity for them to perfect their baton exchange seamlessly,” said the AFN President Tonobok Okowa.
He added that the young lads are being well taken care of in camp and arrangements have been made to pay them camping and competition allowances: “if there is going to be any special motivation that would be up to the LOC to determine.”
On preparations for the CAA U-18 & U-20 Championships in Abeokuta, Okowa stated that the Local Organising Committee was up to the task.
“I believe in LOC, and all they are doing, they are doing a good job so far, and I’m sure they will deliver a healthy and lively atmosphere for the continent’s athletes to compete,” he noted.
