    Court remands man for alleged theft

    Police on Thursday arraigned a 32-year old man, Nnamdi Onyia, in Asaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a laptop valued at N216,000.

    The Prosecutor, Mrs Blessing Okafor, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Oct. 16, at no. 271, Nnebisi Road, Asaba.

    Okafor said that the stolen laptop belonged to one Mr Uzoka Abel.

    She said that the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap C 21 Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

    The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum.

    Okonkwo held that the surety, who must be a civil servant, should show evidence of employment and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    She further ruled that the surety must own a landed property as part of the bail conditions.
    The magistrate adjourned the case till Nov. 27 for definite hearing.

    Woman docked for stealing clothes

    The police on Thursday, arraigned a 55-year old woman, Mrs Ngozi Biosah, before  an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for alleged stealing.

    The police said Ngozi, who allegedly stole some cloths worth N15,000, the property of one Mrs Juliet Ojie, committed an offence punishable by law.

    The Police Prosecutor, Mrs Blessing Okafor, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 19 at DLA road Asaba.

    She said that the offence was punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap, C21 Vol 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

    The accused pleaded not guilty and she was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.

    The magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, who gave the ruling, ordered that the surety must provide evidence of employment and must reside within the jurisdiction.

    Akanume also ordered that the surety must own a landed property and should provide two passport photographs.

    She adjourned the case to Oct. 18 for hearing.

    Court docks man over alleged theft

    A 26-year -old man, Mudiaga John, was on Thursday arraigned in an Asaba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a power generating set.

    Prosecutor John Nwogu, told the court that Mudiaga committed the offence on May 27, after he broke into the residence of one Mrs Noah Victoria, along Ibusa Road, Asaba.

    Nwogu said that the offence was punishable under Sections 516 and 411(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C21 Vol. 1, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty, while the Magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 and a surety in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until Oct. 19 for definite hearing.

    Man docked in Asaba for theft of lorry battery

    A 27-years-old man, Nwafather Okoro, was on Tuesday arraigned at an Asaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a lorry battery.

    The prosecutor, Mrs Victoria Bardi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 31, at Akwa-red Camp, on Asaba-Benin expressway, Asaba.

    Bardi said the accused could not give a satisfactory explanation on how he got the battery when he was accosted by the police and was believed to have stolen it.

    She said that the offence contravened Section 430(1) of the Criminal Code Cap C 21 Vol. 1 Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

    The accused pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate, Mrs Okonkwo Akanume, granted him bail in the sum of N120,000 and a surety in like sum.

    Akanume ordered that the surety must be a civil servant and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

    She added that the surety must own a landed property in the state and must also provide his/her two passport photographs.

    The case was adjourned until Aug. 21, for definite hearing.

  • Two men arraigned for armed robbery

    Two men arraigned for armed robbery

    Two suspects were on Friday arraigned in Asaba Magistrates’ Court for alleged armed robbery.

    The men are: Frank Obiorah, 20, and Sunday Paul, 21, were alleged to have robbed a shop while having in their possession, a double barrel gun.

    The prosecutor, Mr Joseph Ekwebele, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on March 22 at Anwai Road, Mile 5, Asaba.

    He said that the offence contravened Sections 6(b) and 3 (1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R 11 Vol 14, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the one count charge.

    The the Magistrate, Okonkwo Akanume, ordered that both accused be remanded in Ugwuashi-Uku Prison.

    She adjourned the case until May 31 for definite hearing.
