  • Okoroafor to voters: follow your heart

General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev Dr Chidi Okoroafor, has urged Nigerians to vote whoever they want to lead them according to their consciences.

Okoroafor, who was in Calabar for the City Gospel Bells Invasion crusade tagged total freedom, also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow votes count.

The cleric, who said they have already committed the upcoming elections to God, urged Nigerians to eschew violence at the polls.

He also visited the three monarchs of Calabar, the Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V; the Ndidem of the Quas, Ndidem Patrick Inok Oquagbor V and the Muri Munene of the Efuts, Muri Munene Itam Hogan.

“We have prayed. Politics is like a game. You can either win or lose. You don’t shed blood because you want to get to the throne.

“Let everybody know that it is God who puts kings. Somebody may win an election and God would decide he would not be the leader.

“He can decide to remove you midnight before your inauguration. You can die.

“So everybody should be careful and I want to advise that everyone should do their job by voting, follow your conscience.

“I want to challenge the umpire, INEC, to make sure that votes count because one of the things that discourage voters is when they are not sure that their votes would count.

“Please let INEC make the votes count. Let us not mortgage this nation because of money,” Okoroafor said.

Okoroafor said the church came into Calabar with over 1, 000 crowned evangelists for the City Invasion.

“We are into Calabar with over 1, 000 crowned evangelists, who will comb the city from house preaching the gospel of emancipation. What we call personal evangelism.

“Then in the evening, we would gather at the stadium for evangelistic crusade. We believe God it would be a period people would encounter Christ and encounter salvation.

“When God is in charge anything can happen. I want to say that the Lord Jesus has taken over Calabar and we are just here to be witnesses to what the Lord had done already in this place.”

Over 20, 000 delegates from Nigeria, Cameroon, Central Africa, Chad, Kinshasa, Congo Democratic Republic, Congo Brazzaville, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and Sao Tome and Principe converged on Lagos to deliberate on International Missions Conference of the Assemblies of God Nigeria in conjunction with the Central Africa Assemblies of God Alliance (CAAGA).

They elected General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria, Rev Dr Chidi Okoroafor, to lead the eight-nation strong regional mission organisation.

Fielding questions from newsmen, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor said the aim of the conference was to encourage members on the need to obey the Great Commission of the Lord of Christ by taking the gospel to the perishing world.

He said that on daily basis people are dying and going to hell without the gospel.

On the theme of the conference,  “Accelerating the Harvest in the 21st Century,” the new president of CAAGA said: “We need to fast-track the harvest and evangelism, which is the church’s main purpose.

“Unfortunately today, certain churches have become entertainment centres where people come to laugh. But the church’s basic assignment is to reach out to the dying world.”

On restructuring, Okoroafor urged the Federal Government to allow Nigerians decide how they want to be governed.

The outgoing President of CAAGA/General Superintendent, Assemblies of God, Gabon, Rev. Jude B. N’gouwa, who also spoke with newsmen on the vision of CAAGA, said: “Our vision is to unite our efforts as we have one Leader, Who is Jesus Christ.”

“We are here to encourage each other, so that God’s work will be done effectively well in spite of our challenges. We are here to encourage each other, so that we can accelerate the harvest in the 21st century. That means we should not be working alone in our country.”

Recession: Nigeria needs divine bailouts, says Okoroafor

General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Nigeria Rev Chidi Okoroafor yesterday declared Nigeria needs complete divine bailout to emerge from the biting economic recession.

The recession, he said, is beyond economic explanations and solutions.

Okoroafor said only God can rescue Nigeria out of the doldrums.

He stated this in a chat with our correspondent after the three-day South West Ministers’ conference at the Bethel camp, KM 46 Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

He also called on churches and Christians to pray vigorously for recovery of nation’s economic, stating that it has been seriously battered to the point that no solution looks possible.

According to him: “I spoke with somebody who should know if there was hope and he said only God can bail us out.

“No matter economic or human expertise, the recession will not go. We need to move the hands of God to intervene in the matter.”

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari, governors and the economic team to fish for competent hands across the nation that can salvage the situation.

Such persons, he said, might be in opposition parties but should be bought on board for creative ideas that will rescue the nation.

Okoroafor said: “Wisdom has no residential address. The wisdom needed to fix this country is already here. It is not necessarily in the presidency.

“You don’t need to be partisan to move the nation forward because the wisdom that will move the nation forward may be in members of the opposition party.”

He also advised the federal government to adopt the dialogue option with members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to address their grievances.

Dialogue, he said, may change the hearts of members of such violent groups.

No fewer than 1500 ministers of the church from states in the South west expressed support for Okoroafor.

In a communique after the conference, the ministers said: “The 18 administrative units have consistently maintained loyalty to the General Council under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor and promise to continue on the same platform.”

No fraud in Assemblies of God, says Okoroafor

THE General Council, Assemblies of God Nigeria, yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability.

It assured members of judicious utilisation of human and financial resources as well as conscientiousness in the running of its affairs.

The church’s General Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Chidi Okoroafor, urged members as well as stakeholders to discountenance a report alleging fraudulent conversion of funds by some church’s officials.

Okoroafor, in a statement, said there was no truth in the report, saying agents bent on destroying the achievements by the church fabricated it.

He said: “The allegation is baseless and without merit as the audited church account by an external auditor was presented at the 35th Council meeting and ratified by the Council -in -Session.

“The entire church and members know that there can’t be embezzlement and that misappropriation of fund has no place among us.

“We are credible and God-fearing. We run the church’s affairs with utmost transparency and handle resources with biblical scrutiny.

“Those who are after the church’s downfall are responsible for the lies in the media. We remain open to scrutiny by members and the council.”

Okoroafor urged members not to entertain fears about activities of those who were recently excommunicated, saying the leadership will “protect the well-being of the flock of God with everything possible.
