Okoyoh keen on NPFL move ahead next season

Michael Okoyoh has said he is keen to secure a move to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) before the season gets underway.

Okoyoh has been linked with a move to a host of NPFL clubs, including Kastina United, Gombe United and Abia Warriors, and the former Enyimba star has now admitted that he would be open to a switch to the Nigerian top flight.

“I’m still yet to make a move to a new club after my spell at Ikorodu United,” Okoyoh told Goal.

“My options are open, let’s see what happens. My major target is to play in the top tier division next season. That’s my priority. The decision on where I will move to should be revealed in the next seven days.”

Ikorodu Utd won’t be distracted, says Okoyoh

Michael Okoyoh has reacted to tough-talking MFM FC players warning that underrating Ikorodu United will be at their own peril in Sunday’s Lagos derby.

“Everyone is entitled to his opinion when it comes to football, exchanging words over matches that have not been played is unnecessary and distracting,” Okoyoh told Goal.

“We are not going to be distracted by their threats. The truth is that they are underrating us which I think is good for us. They are a very good side no doubt but the best team also loses matches. Sometimes it’s not about self ability. MFM FC is dependent on Chukwuka Onuwa, but the Ikorodu United team is not built around any particular player.

“We depend on collective abilities and that gives us an edge. They (MFM FC) can underrate us if they like, but that will be at their own peril. We will approach the game with as much maturity as we can. People shouldn’t forget that it is a Derby, so it’s a game of chance. We hope to take our chances.

I joined Ikorodu United to make an impact – Okoyoh

After his debut for Ikorodu United, Michael Okoyoh has revealed that he intends to be pivotal for the team in their battle against relegation.

”I joined Ikorodu United to make an impact and help the team escape relegation,” Okoyoh told Goal.

”Many people questioned my move to a lower side but I wanted more playing time, hence my decision to change environment.

”It was great netting on my debut for Ikorodu United. I give glory to Almighty God for making it happen. It is the beginning of great things for me and the team.

”I have what it takes to score more goals in the remaining matches in the league season.”

  • Wolves’ Okoyoh eyes

Warri Wolves forward Michael Okoyoh has spoken of his desire to win the CAF Champions League ahead of their participation in Africa’s premier club competition later this month.

The playmaker has only just committed his future to the club despite interests from other Nigeria top flight sides and is anxious to win silverwares for the Seasiders with the CAF Champions League trophy etched on his mind.

“I love Warri Wolves and it was not a difficult decision for me at all when they offered me the contract as they have helped me a lot with my development and I could not turn my back on them,” Okoyoh told Goal.

“I want to win laurels with Warri Wolves and that was the reason why I extended my contract. My dream is to win the CAF Champions League in addition to next season’s Nigeria Professional Football League title and that’s one of the reasons why I decided to stay here.

“I know it will be difficult but with proper preparation, the team can definitely make it to the top with the kind of players coming in this season.

“To play in the CAF Champions League and participate in the Nigeria Professional Football League and Federation Cup wouldn’t be an easy task, but for me, I want to win the most important trophies for this wonderful club and pray we make it happen to make our fans happy.”

Wolves are playing in the CAF Champions League competition for the first time in their history and they will begin their campaign against Prai Cruz of Sao Tome and Principe next weekend.

Warri Wolves who finished second in the NPFL last season will stage the first leg of their game against Prai Cruz at the Warri City Stadium.
