    Rep Etteh provides free medical, eye care for over 4,000 constituents in Akwa Ibom

    No fewer than 4,000 residents of Eket/ONNA/Esit-Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency have benefitted from an eight-day free medical and ophthalmological outreach sponsored by their National Assembly representative, Okpolupm Etteh.

    The intervention, which moved across the four local government areas, offered critical medical attention to indigent patients who could not afford healthcare.

    According to the medical team, the outreach recorded 1,523 medical and surgical cases, 926 eye consultations, 1,618 laboratory tests, 914 pairs of reading glasses dispensed, 57 eye surgeries, and 246 general surgeries.

    The surgeries included procedures such as myomectomy, appendectomy, hysterectomy, herniorrhaphy, hydrocelectomy, intestinal obstruction treatment, and ovarian cyst removal.

    The programme was held at key health centres, including Cottage Hospital, Upenekang (Ibeno), Cottage Hospital, Ekpene Obo (Esit-Eket), General Hospital, Awa-Iman (ONNA), and Immanuel General Hospital (Eket).

    Rep. Etteh described the initiative as part of his commitment to human capital and social development, aimed at improving the quality of life for his constituents.

    “Healthcare is a basic right, not a privilege. I am grateful to God that through this outreach, we were able to touch lives, save lives, and give hope to families. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to prioritise the well-being of our people,” he stated.

    Medical experts, led by Dr. Unanam Ekaette, who participated in the programme, described it as one of the most far-reaching interventions in recent years in the constituency, given the volume and diversity of medical cases attended to.

    Lawmaker representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency, Okpolupm Etteh, has given a solar-powered street light to Akwa Ibom State School of Nursing, Eket.

    The project will boost safety, visibility and academic functionality on campus. With a focus on renewable energy, it will reduce the school’s reliance on the public grid, offering a stable and eco-friendly power solution.

    Etteh, deputy chair of House Committee on University Education, advocated education-focused development and climate-resilient infrastructure. This intervention, like many, underscores his dedication to modernising the educational ecosystem in his constituency through practical and forward-thinking solutions.

    Stakeholders lauded the lawmaker for his gesture, saying the installation would boost safety and lift morale of students and workers.

    “This project goes beyond lighting—it reflects a leader who listens and delivers,” a senior school administrator said.

    Reps member empowers 100 rural women with skills in fish, snail farming

    The lawmaker representing Eket/Onna/Esit-Eket/Ibeno federal constituency, Okpolupm Etteh has re empowered 100 women in his constituency with skills in fish and snail farming.

    The phase three of the capacity building programme was done in collaboration with the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency at the Eket, Akwa Ibom state. 

    Etteh, who flagged off the programme, explained that the training is expected to equip them with essential skills in sustainable farming practices, empowering them to contribute significantly to food security while providing avenues for economic empowerment.

    Represented by a former Ibeno Chapter Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Ekoakwaha Etteh, the federal lawmaker said “The empowerment training on fish and snail farming was chosen for the low entry barriers and high nutritional value of fish and snails.

    ‘And much more, it was chosen because it aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s A.R.I.S.E Agenda in boosting local agricultural productivity and fostering self-reliance among women in rural communities.”

    While emphasising the importance of supporting women in agriculture to promote food security and economic independence, Etteh said that empowering women means empowering generations.

    Addressing the participants, the representative of the Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency, Mrs. Effa Adebola, said the training covers technical aspects of fish and snail farming, such as breeding, feeding, pest control, and harvesting.

    She further added that “participants will also receive guidance on the medicinal and nutritional benefits of these practices, which is in line with the Agency’s expertise in natural food sources for health.”

    Liaison Officer for Eket/ONNA/Esit-Eket/IbenoFederal Constituency, Engr. Samuel Ukwat, said that Etteh remains dedicated to ensuring that the empowerment journey for women extends beyond training and translates into long-term economic benefits.

    Speaking on behalf of the participants, a Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade, Obonganwan Grace Oduok, commended the federal lawmaker for the inclusion of women in his empowerment scheme and expressed optimism for the positive impact the training will have on household income and local food supply.

    The event was witnessed by the Resource Consultant, Mrs. Malubia Arah of Arachnida Networks Limited, and some stakeholders from the federal constituency.
