Ogun 2027: Group canvasses support for Adeola’s guber ambition

In a bid to further deepen the propagation of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s aspiration for the Ogun governorship seat in 2027, a socio‑political group, Ogun Visionaries, on Thursday organized a Town Hall Meeting for the people of Ogun West.

The Ogun West edition, with the theme, ‘Yayi 2027: Making a Case for Ogun State Unity and Prosperity,’ was held at Sango‑Ota in Ado‑Odo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Earlier, the Director‑General of Ogun Visionaries, Odunleye Odunjo, stated that the socio‑political group is set to hold interactive sessions with Ogun‑state indigenes via statewide town‑hall meetings.

“We will listen to people across the state—asking them what kind of government they would like to have in 2027 and how their next leader should govern their affairs. We will x‑ray individuals and support the best among us to emerge as our elected public servants. With the resources extractable from our state, we must be conscious of those aspiring to lead us.” He noted that town‑hall meetings are not new to the state’s political space, emphasizing that the meetings are to pinpoint and scrutinize the existing challenges, opportunities and ways to fix them all for the benefit of the people of Ogun State.

Speaking at the well‑attended event,  the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Isiaq Kunle Salako, who also chaired the event, represented by Hon. Sheriff Abiodun described the gathering as not just another political event, but a statement of solidarity and a reaffirmation of the people’s collective resolve and demonstration of their commitment to the unity and progress of Ogun State.

Senator Adeola’s media aide, Odunaro installed as Osorun of Isaga-Orile Kingdom

The Chief of Staff and Media Adviser to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, otherwise known as Yayi,  Kayode Odunaro, has been installed as the Osorun of Isaga-Orile Kingdom, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Osorun title holder is one of the kingmakers in the ancient kingdom.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after he was installed at the weekend by the Onisaga of Isaga-Orile Kingdom, Oba Joseph Oladele Olusoji Tella, Odunaro, explained that the chieftaincy title belonged to his lineage, adding that the position was last held by his uncle who died in 1988, having been installed in 1958.

He stated further that the title would  bring him closer to his roots and participate more in activities of Isaga traditional council, particularly in the selection of a new traditional ruler in the town.

Odunaro, who is also the Baa’royin of Imala Kingdom, said though he holds other traditional titles, the latest one is unique and it will demand high responsibility from him.

While expressing his appreciation to Oba Tella, Isaga-Orile Traditional Council and the Osorun Family, the erstwhile Chief Press Secretary to former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, declared that he would bring the experience he had garnered as the spokesperson to three past administrations in Ogun, to bear on the new title.

“I am delighted that I have just been installed as the Osorun of Isaga-Orile Kingdom. This is a very important traditional title in the kingdom as Osorun is one of the kingmakers.

“The title belongs to our family; my late uncle was installed in 1958 and held the title till he passed in 1988. So, for decades, there was a vacancy in the position of Osorun. Therefore, I am highly elated that I am feeling the vacant position today after so many years of interregnum.

“For me, it is a higher call to traditional responsibility and I will ensure that I bring experiences I garnered over the years as spokesperson of three administrations, both military and civilian in Ogun, to bear in this new title. Like I have done in public service, I will use this Osorun title to contribute to the growth and development of the Isaga-Orile Kingdom,” Odunaro submitted.

  • Ogun 2027, Yayi and zoning

    Ogun 2027, Yayi and zoning

The zoning debate is on the front burner in 49-year-old Ogun State, where the struggle for the governorship ticket on the platforms of ruling and opposition parties has been intense since the Second Republic.

Although zoning is not a constitutional matter, it is believed that the rotation of the governorship seat among the three senatorial districts would ensure equity, fairness, justice, and a sense of belonging. The convention in the Gateway State has often been discarded to the detriment of one district, which is now struggling to remove the yoke of oppression, marginalization, and inferiority.

Unlike Ekiti, which is a one-zone state, Ogun comprises three zones – the Central, the East, and the West. The zones have their distinct identities, although the majority of the people generally belong to the Yoruba stock.

In the East are the Ijebu and Remo, who speak almost the same dialect. This reality led the colonial masters to lump them into one province. But that action prompted Oba Christopher Adedoyin, Akarigbo of Remo land (Sagamu and its environs), to fight the identity battle, which he won at the Privy Council in London.

Despite the age-long gulf, rivalry, and repressed tension, the Ijebu and the Remo have always achieved a workable consensus on politics.

The Central is Egba land, the home of civilisation and organised pre-colonial order – a unique confederation of Ake, Owu, Ibara, Oke Ona and Gbagura – envied by the colonial interlopers. It is the most enlightened and united, as underscored by the dictum: “baawa,” which translates to “us” or “we”. The corollary is that the Egba, who have been united by their battles for survival and relevance since the days of Yoruba inter-tribal wars, never contradicted themselves. They have always got along on what unites them.

The third, and the most problematic, is the West, referred to in those days as the Egbado but later christened Yewa, in rejection of the superiority complex of Egba and the old thinking that the whole territory – from Ilaro through Ado-Odo/Ota, Imeko Afon, Ipokia to Benin Republic border, was an addendum or extension of Egba land. That perception is demeaning.

The West is not wholly identical. In the zone are the Yoruba and their sub-national dialects of authentic Yewa, the Awori, and the Egun (also called Ogu or Ogun), who are not bound by deep cultural ties. That is why the harmonisation and coordination of interests are sometimes difficult. Even among the traditional rulers, unity is not total.

The subjugation or exclusion of the zone is an understatement. Since the Second Republic, the district has not produced a governor. Only the role of a second fiddle or spare tyre is marginally conceded to them, with the disunited members of the political class there fighting for the crumbs.

While the Ijebu Division had produced Governor Olabisi Onabanjo, the Egba Division produced Aremo Olusegun Osoba and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Remo Division produced Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Egbado Division has been left in the cold.

In 1979, two Yewa politicians – Senator Jonathan Odebiyi and Dr. Tunji Otegbeye – were in the race along with Onabanjo from Ijebu and Soji Odunjo from Egba. Pleas to the Yewa aspirants to step down for each other fell on deaf ears.

At the Electoral College for the primary, the Egba voted for Odunjo, giving all the 22 votes of their division to him, and 22 votes from Ijebu/Remo went to Onabanjo.

However, the 10 votes by Egbado delegates were split into two. At that first round, they were wasted. A tie was recorded between Onabanjo and Odunjo, necessitating a second ballot. Egbado delegates gave their votes to Onabanjo, who won the poll. Although there was a gentleman’s agreement that the Ijebu would give their votes to the Egbado in the next governorship election in recognition of the good gestures, it never happened. Onabanjo consolidated his hold on the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) chapter and was re-elected.

In the Third Republic, Osoba also defeated the eminent scholar, Prof. Afolabi Olabimtan, in the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship primary.

In 2011, the ambitions of Yewa candidates – Gen. Tunji Olurin of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), backed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Gboyega Isiaka of the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN), backed by Daniel – crumbled.

Since then, major political parties have never looked in the direction of Ogun West, despite the persistent agitations for zoning.

Ahead of 2027, zoning, if it were to be considered, favours Ogun West. But it should be noted that only in the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the sentiment gaining traction. It is not being discussed in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) circles in Ogun State.

There is no shortage of qualified, competent and patriotic indigenes from the district to succeed Abiodun at the Oke Mosan State House in 2027. Four aspirants are already on the field, deepening consultations and mobilisation. As it is with politics, they are working at cross purposes.

On the slippery political field are Abayomi Hunye, Special Adviser on Environment and Managing Director of Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAWA); Isiaka, a member of the House of Representatives; and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola.

But the Egba are also ‘coveting’ the slot. It is being speculated that a former minister and diplomat, Sarafa Ishola, is warming up, like Senator Afolabi Salisu, who represents Ogun Central.

In the PDP, the dominant aspirant is the serial contestant, Ladi Adebutu. More aspirants may still join the list in the two dominant parties.

Evidently, the aspirants are prepared for the naira or dollar war that may characterise the nominations, which can either be through direct primary, indirect option, and consensus; the last method being very remote.

The shadow poll, and even the main election, will not be a walkover for any aspirant or candidate. There are hurdles to cross. There are obstacles to overcome.

Every governor prefers to install a successor. The Ogun governor could not be expected to be aloof or indifferent to the nature and tendency of his would-be successor. But historically, no Ogun governor has installed an anointed candidate. Onabanjo’s second term was brutally terminated by the military. Osoba was stopped after the first term when a political earthquake swept the Southwest in 2003. Daniel and Amosun could not install Isiaka and Akinlade, respectively.

But zoning also is not sacrosanct, except for the party that insists on the convention. All the aspirants from the three districts have the constitutional right to contest. However, for 2027, it is more crucial and strategic for Ogun West to put its house in order by collectively adopting an acceptable aspirant or candidate and liaise with the two districts, instead of going into the primary together, with the peculiar prospects of defeat and failure.

Also, overconfidence on the part of any contender could herald a fall or disappointment in succession politics.  Getting the ticket and winning the election would depend on the candidate’s personality, track record, networks, capacity for proper negotiation and consensus building,  mobilisation capability, persuasive talent, financial war chest, godfatherism, support from majority delegates, unforeseen circumstances, and the grace of God.

Without dispute, in Ogun State of today, only God can predict tomorrow. All eyes are on the crowd puller, Adeola, popularly called Yayi (meaning: the vivacious), a symbol of his political brand, associated with positive attributes, including accessibility, generosity, hard work, and responsiveness to the needs of his constituents. The moniker is widely used for him in Lagos and Ogun states, and even beyond, as a term of endearment and a way to express support for his leadership.

A former state lawmaker, House of Representatives member, and senator through the wishes of Lagos West and Ogun West, Yayi has successfully weathered the storm of derisive partisanship of being a Lagosian from Ogun State, a propaganda fueled by his adversaries. His closeness to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu makes his co-contestant livid with envy and jealousy. It should be noted that Asiwaju has apparently been grooming or nurturing his boy since he was in the Lagos State House of Assembly and found him to be consistently loyal, effective, patriotic, and effusively competent.

Yayi, a household name, is a politician with a huge brain and capacity, a great mobiliser, a big spender, a philanthropist, and a progressive to the core.

With his years of experience in progressive politics, he is good to go. Given his popularity in Ogun State and the strength of his party, especially, Yayi could have just a little partisan battle to fight and win on his way to Oke Mosan.

If the slot eludes Ogun West in 2027, the district would only become, politically speaking, a foot note in Ogun State.

2027: Ogun West endorses Tinubu, YAYI

‎…as senator lits up 435 CDAs with 102 transformers at 56

The Ogun West Senatorial District on Sunday declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, affirming that in 2027 the zone stands firmly behind “his mandate.”

Commending the President for his bold reforms and interventions aimed at restoring the nation’s economy to a path of growth and prosperity, the people of Ogun West also pledged continued support for their senator, Dr. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, for his effective representation and commitment to the President’s success.

The endorsement came during a well-attended gathering at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion, Ilaro, headquarters of Yewa South Local Government Area, organised by supporters and associates of Senator Adeola to celebrate his birthday in absentia as a show of love and solidarity.

Similar celebrations took place in Abeokuta (Ogun Central), Ijebu Igbo (Ogun East), and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking at the Ilaro event, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, said the celebrations were organised by friends and key supporters to honour Senator Adeola’s achievements as Ogun West’s representative while also rallying support for President Tinubu’s 2027 mandate.

Salako said, ‎“It gives me great joy to join you all here in Ilaro to celebrate a distinguished leader, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi. Senator Yayi is a man whose leadership strides and landmark achievements continue to inspire many. His dedication to the service of his people is evident in the many projects he has facilitated, including the recent provision of transformers to energize communities across this region. This is a clear demonstration of his commitment to grassroots development.

“As we celebrate him today, I want to emphasize the need for us to stand firmly on the mandate of our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and that of Senator Adeola Yayi. Together, we can advance the cause of development for our people.

‎“I also wish to appreciate our Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun, the leader of the APC in Ogun State, for providing the enabling environment that allows Senator Yayi to deliver on his promises. His support and leadership remain invaluable in our collective drive for progress.

‎“Once again, I congratulate Senator Adeola Yayi on this special occasion and pray for greater strength, wisdom, and accomplishments in the service of our dear nation.”

‎The Chairman, Central Planning Committee of the event and the Commissioner of Housing in the state, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, expressed delight that friends and supporters of the senator could come together to honour him and appreciate his unprecedented performance in the National Assembly.

‎Meanwhile, in a concerted move in furtherance of the Renewed Hope Agenda on Infrastructure of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Solomon Adeola (Ogun West) has facilitated the donation and energization of 102 electric transformers for 435 Community Development Areas (CDAs) spread across all senatorial districts of Ogun State.

‎The transformers of different specifications according to requirement of each benefitting localities includes 500kva/33, 500kva/11, 300kva/33 and 300kva/11 were presented on Sunday to representatives of communities on the side of the celebration of Senator Adeola’s 56th birthday at Asade Agunloye Pavilion, Ilaro in Yewa South LGA.

‎A total of 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Ogun State benefitted from this scheme of “Light Up Ogun State” namely; Yewa North, Ado Odo Ota, Yewa South, Abeokuta North, Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Ewekoro, and Sagamu. Others are Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, Ipokia, Ijebu North East, Ikenne, Ijebu East, Remo North, Abeokuta South and Ijebu North.

‎Speaking through his media aide, Chief Kayode Odunaro, in a release, Adeola explained that he elected to facilitate the 102 transformers after his office was inundated with many requests for transformers by many communities, adding that it is a thing of joy for him to bring light to various homes and businesses through the provision of transformers and their energization.

‎Related to the provision of transformers in the “Light Up Ogun State” is the provision and installation of solar power street lights along streets, markets, communities and palaces with over 16500 poles installed so far across Ogun West senatorial district and beyond.

‎“Let me state clearly that this facilitation is an ongoing process as there are still many more communities in darkness as a result of damage or inadequate energy infrastructure. I will continue to address these challenges that are already compiled in my office,” he stated.

Adeola condemns killings in Ogun border communities

Senator representing Ogun West, Olamilekan Adeola has reiterated his condemnation of killing of residents of Ogun communities bordering the Republic of Benin by the operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Adeola popularly called Yayi who bemoaned what he described as “incessant killings” of Ogun West residents by the customs men in the name of tackling smuggling, declared that the killings must be stopped.

The Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriations, said that everyone residing in the border communities cannot be tagged as smugglers, rather, they are legitimate inter-border traders, stressing that the killings by the operatives of the customs are without justification.

Adeola stated this while speaking at the 2nd Edition of Town Hall Meeting/Mega Empowerment and Thank You Tour, held at Imeko town, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, on Friday.

At the event attended by leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), traditional rulers and trade associations, youths, women and artisans numbering 4,000 were given empowerment tools.

Adeola, who is also the Aremo of Yewaland, noted that shutting the borders cannot bring about the desired solution, saying several legitimate business activities would continue to be stifled by the measure.

He observed further that closing petrol stations within the 20 kilometers to the border has taken a serious toll on the socioeconomic development of the people and the communities, disclosing that efforts were ongoing at the Senate to ensure the reopening of the stations.

Adeola expressed dismay at what he described as a “selective opening “of petrol stations, emphasizing that concerted efforts have been initiated   at the National Assembly to facilitate the reopening of all the stations.

Speaking on the empowerment programme, the senator said that the programme was organized to reward constituents in Ogun West for voting him as their senator.

He explained further that the distribution of the empowerment tools was decentralized to accommodate and empower more beneficiaries in all the five local government areas in the senatorial districts.

While warning the beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme not to sell the tools but use them to enhance their businesses and crafts, Adeola assured them that he would continue to give qualitative representation and facilitate more developmental projects to Ogun West.

He, however, submitted that rehabilitation work will commence soon on the road from Rounder to Olorunda, while the ongoing road construction in Ilara, Ilase, Oja Odan and Eselu as well as Iwoye-Oke Agbede-Moriwi will soon be completed

  • Ogun 2027: What is Yayi up to?

Ogun 2027: What is Yayi up to?

    By Bolaji Oyeleye

In the tapestry of Nigerian politics, there are leaders whose actions speak louder than their words. And one such individual is Senator Olamilekan Adeola (fondly known as Yayi). Representing the Ogun West Senatorial District, Yayi has exemplified what it means to be a servant-leader, deeply rooted in the welfare of his people. Through his relentless drive for development and empowerment, he has not only earned the admiration of his constituents but has also positioned himself as a visionary leader with the potential to transform Ogun State.

Yayi’s tenure as a senator has been marked by a slew of impactful initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the people in Ogun West. Understanding the critical importance of infrastructure in fostering socio-economic growth, he has championed numerous educational, vocational and infrastructural projects across the district. Roads that were once impassable and a bane to economic activities have now become smooth pathways connecting communities, enabling trade, and improving mobility. These infrastructure projects are not just constructions of concrete and asphalt but are symbolic of his commitment to laying a solid foundation for the prosperity of Ogun West.

In addition, Senator Adeola has also been a pillar of support for the empowerment of youth and women. Recognising that a vibrant and skilled youth population is the bedrock of any progressive society, he has introduced various programmes aimed at providing vocational training, startup capital, and mentorship for young people in his constituency. Women, who often face systemic barriers to economic opportunities, have also benefited immensely from his empowerment schemes. Whether through skills acquisition programmes, grants for small businesses, or agricultural support initiatives, Yayi has demonstrated his resolve to uplift the often-overlooked segments of the society.

His leadership philosophy is anchored on inclusivity and grassroots engagement. Unlike some politicians who become detached from their constituents, Yayi has remained accessible, listening to the needs and aspirations of the people he represents. This close connection has enabled him to implement projects that are both relevant and impactful. The positive changes he has brought to Ogun West have not only improved living standards, but have also restored hope in the power of governance to effect meaningful change.

Looking to the future, Senator Adeola has the right skill set and competencies to serve as the Chief Executive of Ogun State come 2027. This will not only be a logical extension of his service to the people but rather an opportunity to upscale and deploy his service to the people of Ogun State on a larger scale.

His exemplary track record in Ogun West presents a compelling argument for his suitability to lead Ogun State to unprecedented heights. Despite its immense potential as an economic powerhouse, the state’s resources have remained largely underutilised, with successive administrations failing to maximise these opportunities. The state now needs a leader with the rare ability to combine visionary thinking with pragmatic execution. Yayi’s tenure as a senator has demonstrated that he embodies these qualities, offering a clear and transformative vision, a tireless work ethic, and an unshakable commitment to the well-being of the people.

Beyond his developmental strides, Yayi’s leadership is also underpinned by his integrity and ability to inspire hope. In a political landscape often characterised by cynicism, he stands out as a beacon of trustworthiness and dedication. His ability to mobilise resources and implement sustainable projects reflects his financial prudence and administrative acumen – qualities that are indispensable for governing a state like Ogun.

As 2027 approaches, the demand for visionary leadership and effective governance becomes more urgent. Ogun State requires a leader who can navigate the complexities of a VUCAD (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous, and Disruptive) environment with clarity and resilience. Such a leader must possess the strategic acumen to adapt to challenges, the foresight to anticipate opportunities, and the decisiveness to drive impactful solutions. Yayi’s proven track record of results-driven leadership and his ability to inspire confidence among his constituents position him as the ideal candidate to lead Ogun State into a future of stability and prosperity.

Senator Adeola has made remarkable strides in empowering his Ogun West constituents and transforming the region. Through his skill acquisition programmes, he has trained and equipped over 6,000 indigenes with essential vocational skills. Demonstrating his commitment to education, he funded the construction of a library at the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, and played a pivotal role in its upgrade to a university.

In education, Senator Adeola has facilitated the construction of 156 classrooms equipped with modern facilities, along with three ICT centres located at Nazareth High School, Imeko in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area (LGA); the School of Nursing, Ilaro (Yewa South LGA); and AUD Comprehensive High School, Ota (Ado-Odo Ota LGA). He also provided school furniture for 25 institutions, spanning primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

Similarly, his Mega Empowerment Programme has renewed hope among his people by providing startup grants and empowerment tools to over 10,000 constituents and institutions, bolstering their capacity to contribute meaningfully to societal development. Additionally, he has improved access to electricity by donating transformers to various communities across his senatorial district.

In a groundbreaking achievement, Senator Adeola recently facilitated the construction of a state-of-the-art two-storey building at Mayigi Community High School in Ilashe, Ipokia LGA. This imposing structure, set to be commissioned soon, features 18 fully furnished classrooms and modern offices, representing a significant leap forward in the educational development of Ogun West Senatorial District.

Senator Adeola has shown that leadership is not about wielding power, but about empowering others. His developmental projects in Ogun West, his commitment to youth and women empowerment, and his accessibility to his constituents all underscore his deep love for his people and his desire to see them thrive.

As he sets his sights on the governorship of Ogun State, one thing is certain: with Yayi at the helm, the future of Ogun State will be Bountiful, Resilient, Inclusive, Great, Harmonious and Thriving (BRIGHT).

The people of Ogun West are proud of their senator, and the entire state looks forward with optimism to the realisation of a greater Ogun under his leadership. Yayi is not just a politician; he is a movement, a promise, and a leader we can all believe in.

  • PDP almost ruined Nigeria – Sen. Adeola

Sen.Olamilekan Adeola (Lagos West) on Thursday urged Nigerians to give the All Progressives Congress (APC) the needed support to fix the present challenges confronting the country.

Adeola gave the advice in Lagos while speaking at a meeting with traditional rulers in his senatorial district.

He said some of the problems facing the country were inherited by the current APC administration owing to what he called 16years of inept leadership of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP).

Adeola said that the PDP nearly ruined Nigeria with incompetent leadership, but the APC was making sincere efforts to reposition the country.

“People talk about the problems in the country but we have to understand that the present challenges of the country were not caused by the APC but inherited from the PDP.

“For 16 years, the PDP delivered nothing but bad governance; in fact, they almost destroyed the country. So, the mess created in 16 years cannot be fixed in three years.

“The truth is that the Buhari-led administration has made steady progress in the last three years. And Nigerians can bank on the government to address all the issues to make life better for all,” he said.

Adeola said the promise of the PDP, particularly its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to make things better for Nigerians was an empty one.

He said before Atiku’s promise to turn around the country could be taken seriously, Nigerians should ask him to list his achievements as Vice-president under PDP.

Adeola urged Nigerians to be wary of Atiku, saying his plan to sell some national assets if elected should scare all patriots.

The senator implored traditional rulers to always criticise the present government constructively and give their support for the continued progress of the country.

He said that he believed traditional rulers should be given constitutional roles in nation-building, promising to champion the cause in the 9th Senate, if elected.

Adeola thanked the traditional rulers and the people in the district for their consistent support for him, assuring them that he would always deliver democratic dividends in the area.

The senator said as a representative of the area, he had put in place impacting programmes and interventions.

He said thousands of constituents had benefitted from his empowerment programmes in the area and his various interventions in infrastructure development.

Adeola said he had facilitated jobs for many youths in the area and had supported many in business.

The senator said he was passionate about the progress of Lagos West and urged the constituents to support him in 2019 to do more.

The News Agency of Agency (NAN) reports that traditional rulers who were at the meeting include Oba Shakirudeen Kuti (Elewu of Ewuland); Oba Kamilu Isiba (Olu of Agege Kingdom); Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka (Osolo of Osolo Kingdom) and Oba Suleiman Suberu (Alajasa of Ajasaland).

Oba Nureni Akinremi (Onijegun of Ijegun); Aholu Samuel Olowolabani of Ajaraland and Oba Lasisi Gbadamosi (Onigando of Igando) were also present.

NAN reports all the traditional rulers endorsed the senator for re-election at the end of the meeting.

Senator Olamilekan Adeola has challenged Prince Gboyega Isiaka, former House of Representatives member, Abiodun Akinlade, and Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Suraj Adekunbi, to a public debate on how they intend to govern the state better if given the mandate in 2019.
Adeola, a Senator representing Lagos West at the Senate said such debate could give Ogun people not only a window of opportunity to know those aspiring to lead them, but also put to rest, the unwarranted grumbling over his recent endorsement by Ogun West Consultative Forum(OWECOF).
The quartet of Adeola, Suraj, Isiaka and Akinlade as well a two others – all from Ogun West Senatorial district and aspiring to govern Ogun State come 2019, were screened by the OWECOF between August and November this year.
At the end of the exercise, the body endorsed Adeola as a consensus candidate whose candidature it said could help the zone actualise their 2019 governorship agenda, but the endorsement was disputed by other aspirants.
But in an interaction with journalists on Friday, Adeola  said he did not influence the outcome of the screening by OWECOF or induced the body to favour him as alleged by others, adding that he was “taken aback” when he received the news of his endorsement.
He  noted that  the opportunity given to him by the body to sell his programmes and vision to them, was also extended to Isiaka, Suraj, Akinlade and Chief of Staff to Governor Ibikunle Amosun, Tolu Odebiyi, and called the quartet out for a public debate since they were not comfortable or convinced about the endorsement.
According to the Senator, the debate if organised for the aspirants from Ogun West by journalists in the state or any group, may put to rest all unnecessary bickering and murmuring about OWECOF endorsement.
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Contents said he had resolved to contest for the governorship seat of Ogun State come 2019, saying it is his “strong conviction that God and the good people of the state” that would crown him a Governor and not a single individual.
He pledged to improve on the revenue base of the state, consolidate on the good works of past and current governors of Ogun State, assuring that he wants  to become governor because he  has “what it takes to take Ogun State to the next level by the special grace of God.”
“I’m aware that before the Ogun West Consultative Forum embarked on this journey, consultations were made and I believe part of the consultations that were made was with the traditional rulers, elders of Ogun West senatorial district and other notable sons and daughters of Ogun West.
“It is aftermath of the consultation that was done here and there that the idea of invitation of aspirants came on board and as I’ve said, six of us were invited and it’s a programme that lasted for nine months.
“It’s not something that they did within three or four weeks, nine months and none of us contributed anything to the programme, not a dime! They are not here but God is here.
“I was invited like any other aspirant and I was given the opportunity to speak and address those people for two hours. Can he rule, yes or no, you can mark it. I think that is what those people did and they misconstrued them.
“Maybe by the time they put all of us on the podium like this and the whole world is watching, maybe then it can be a different ball game.
“And if they like, I challenge them to a debate, all the aspirants from Ogun West to a public debate and let us discuss and let us tell the whole world what we are ready to do for our people.
“I challenge them. I challenge Akinlade, I challenge Tolu, I challenge Suraj, I challenge Gboyega Nasir Isiaka(GNI). I challenge them to a public debate. If you are sure of yourself and you believe you have what it takes to govern our state and take Ogun State to the next level, come out for a public debate.
“Let Ogun State listen to us and let Ogun State take its decision and let everybody stop hiding under the finger of one individual. The media can be the observer, you (journalists) can call for the debate, you can organise it and let all of us come and talk to you.
“So, whosoever that is not convinced about what Ogun West Consultative Forum has done, I challenge them to a public debate and let us settle the score one and for all.
“If you are embarking on such a journey, one thing you must seek for is the face of God and once God says there is a way, then there is nothing else you can do. If I want to sit in the palatial home of Ikeja, GRA, Lekki, then why do I want to go into the rural part? But one day that rural part can be the same with these, some people must take the bold step.
” So I’m one of those that are taking that bold step. So, as I’ve decided to run or contest for the governor of the state, I have no regret. I am standing by my words that 2019 is sacrosanct,” Adeola said.
