Ajomale, Olasoju, others rally Isolo residents for APC e-registeration

The Chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area, Olasoju Adebayo has urged interested residents to join the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership e-registration.

At a special meeting held at the exquisite Ibis International Hotel, Ajao Estate, Olasoju lent his voice to that of Oshodi/Isolo APC Apex Leader, Otunba Henry Oladele Ajomale, in re-awakening the consciousness of attendees to the task at hand.

The council boss extolled Chief Ajomale’s ingenuity which has placed peace-brokering missions on his shoulder several times in the past.

He lamented the low numbers of registered people in Isolo.

A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly,  Ladi Ajomale, noted that the exercise is digitalised and open to monitoring in real time which has left the presidency dissatisfied with Lagos state particularly, Isolo and a number of other council areas.

Ajomale hinted that 150,000 organic members is the mandate given to Isolo at the state as he lamented Isolo sliding off from 3rd to 12th position in a rating since the exercise commenced. Ajomale maintained that a drastic improvement in performance as regards the registration exercise could be leveraged to push for Federal and State appointments for the benefit of all.

Otunba Ajomale, who is the former Lagos State APC Chairman, gave an analysis of the registered voters in Oshodi/Isolo and the eventual overall votes recorded during elections as abysmally low with a charge to attendees to justify the two federal lawmaker slots being enjoyed among other privileges.

He called for suggestions from attendees on the task at hand.

After listening to suggestions such as the creation of centres close to markets, improved funding of the Community Development Committee (CDC) and empowering party members at wards level, a 7-Man Committee was set up to practically outline and execute strategy.

Also speaking, Otunba Jide Oni, charged attendees to rededicate themselves to the goals of the party.

He maintained that it’s better to be a nominal member of the ruling party than being an executive member of a struggling opposition party.

Excitement as Olasoju begins road construction

The commencement of construction work on Ibadan Street in Ilasamaja area of Isolo Local Council Development Area has been welcomed with excitement by residents and road users in the community.

Preliminary work began when the contractor – JIDSMA Nigeria Limited contracted by the council authority under the leadership of Olasoju Adebayo to put the road in desirable and motorable state like the adjoining Baale Street moved to site.

Recall that the council chief had, last May, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the now-completed Baale Street, assured that Ibadan street will also be constructed to consolidate and complement the Baale Street stretch.

House owners and residents on the street could not but take pleasure in the development with many staying outside their respective houses to monitor the ongoing earthwork activity.

‘’This is a development we find so delightsome because our hopes had been raised since construction work started on Baale Street and we are glad that the council chairman has shown yet again that he’s a man of integrity by walking the talk on his promise of extending the development to our street,” a resident, Sarah Ogunsakin said.

She added: “The fact is that the beauty of what the chairman has done in Baale is for similar efforts to e extended to Ibadan and maybe Cecilia Odutuga to further link with Ogunbowale to create a ring road that will completely take traffic from the main road. Above all this is a welcome and laudable development that we are all proud of.”

Another resident, who identified herself as Alhaja Adejumo said: “What more can I say to the chairman for this development that many of us believe is long over due. We are glad that he has remembered us in Ibadan street with this road construction. Our hope is that it will be completed soonest like Baale street. Upon completion, we will take ownership and ensure its proper usage through the Community Development Association (CDA).”

Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has constructed 29 roads within three years, its Chairman, Adebayo Olasoju said.

He listed some of the roads to include Asiri-Abo Link, Kogberegbe, Aderinto, Ogundele Way, Akinbaye, and Ayo Shonubi streets.

Also among the roads are Chief Nwakibie Egbuniwe, Holy Saviour, Lamina Lawal, Mureni, Olaosibikan, Olumuyiwa Siwoku, Ehingbeti and Olusola Faronbi streets.

Olasoju said on assumption of office, he realised that the major problem of Isolo LCDA was bad roads.

This, he said, made his administration to embark on the completing the 29 roads before initiating new ones.

According to him, Kogberegbe  and others are link roads that will reduce the travelling time for motorists.

“We’ve completed about 29 in the space of three years and we have about seven ongoing that will be completed in the next few months,” Olasoju said.

He identified road construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance, addressing traffic congestion and clearing of drainages as ways to open up the council for investments.

He said the Aswani Road was one of the most-crucial projects the council wanted to embark on.

“We have a major problem on Aswani road linking Osolo Way where we have a lot of damages on the road caused by the influx of trailers and everything. It is a state road, but we are in touch with relevant agency to get it fixed.

“We have agreed that we are kicking-off that road in the next few weeks if we don’t see anything tangible from the agency because a lot of complaints are coming from the road users. Its closeness to our secretariat attracted lot of complaints and we must harken to the yearnings of the people,” Olasoju said.

The council boss stated that the LCDA had launched “Operation Don’t Block the Drainage” to fight perennial flooding.

The initiative is aimed at making Isolo flood-free for residents and businesses, he said.

He noted that the council sensitised residents directly and through Community Development Associations (CDAs) on the proper way of waste disposal.

Olasoju said: “We have sensitised the market women, shop owners and today we’re getting it better. We are also encouraging the CDA, the street associations that they should ensure that households’ refuses must not be in drainages.”

He added that the efforts included clearing and fumigation of drainages, and dredging of canals.

Olasoju praised the Lagos State Government for trying to bring back the monthly environmental sanitation which, he said, would contribute to a cleaner Lagos.

According to him, the strategic approach was to cushioning the economic effects of subsidy removal and ensuring it reach the downtrodden.

Not even the early morning heavy downpour was enough to prevent the people regardless of gender and age from trooping out in their numbers to benefit from the largesse.

At Esa Square of Akinbaye Ward where the council boss’ convoy made their first stop, Olasoju addressed the teeming residents, who had no cue of what the van parked by them was loaded with.

Addressing reporters at Eyin-oja, Olasoju maintained that bringing the items to the beneficiaries was to remove the barrier of enrolment/application which, sometimes, leave certain people disadvantaged as he declared that the modified food palliative programmes is going to be a continuous one.

Metropolitan College Road was stormed by the convoy afterwards. Residents of this street didn’t waste time in taking to instructions of the organisers as they were handed over the gift serially. Excitement was written on the faces of the about 400 beneficiaries with most of them expressing appreciation for the gesture.

Olasoju assured them that his administration will always put their well-being first saying their prayers for the administration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu are all that is required.

The beneficiaries didn’t mince words in expressing their appreciation.

“This event is a much-needed one to ensure the reawakening of people’s consciousness to safety precautions and regulations. Having peaceful and memorable months won’t happen by fluke, it’s on us to ensure precautions and safety rules.
