    LG Polls: We won’t impose candidates – Ajimobi

    Gov. Abiola Ajimobi has assured members of the All Progressive Congress ( APC ) in the state that the party leadership would not impose candidates in the May 12 local government election.

    The governor made the disclosure on Tuesday in Iseyin at an empowerment programme organised by Sen. Abdulfatai Buhari (APC-Oyo North).

    He said that the party leadership in state would abide by the decision of the majority on the process to select party’s candidates.

    Some members of the party in the state had on Monday besieged the party’s state secretariat in Ibadan with placards, alleging plans by the leadership to impose candidates.

    “We won’t impose candidates for the forthcoming local government election. I am appealing to you at every local government council area to come together and work in unity so that we can present a common candidate.

    “There are types of primary election, which could be direct or indirect. The direct type allows party members to come together to choose, while the indirect allows the election through delegates.

    “I want you to talk to yourselves on your choice, I will be okay by your decision,” he said.

    Ajimobi lauded members of the senatorial district on the choice of Sen. Buhari as their representative, saying his qualities reflected in the standard of the empowerment programme he organised.

    Buhari, in his remarks, said that the effort was to ensure the people of the senatorial district benefit dividends of democracy.

    The lawmaker said it was the second of such empowerment programmes, apart from the various other projects executed in the district.

    He assured the people of quality representation, saying he been very active in the performance of his legislative duties in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.

    Among the items distributed were cars, motorcycles, refrigerators, sewing machines and other equipments.

    Meanwhile, the party in the state has warned aspirants against blackmail, noting that such would do nothing good to the party.

    The party gave the warning in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare and made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday.

    It described the allegations of planned imposition of candidates as a figment of the imagination of the protesters and their sponsors.

    The party urged the public to regard it as cheap blackmail antics to cause unnecessary tension.

    “We are indeed embarrassed at the level which decorum was thrown into the air by these set of people, whom we identify as APC members in the state.

    “Peaceful and purposeful protests are some of the essentials of democracy, but when cheap blackmail is involved, it becomes condemnable.

    “The allegation of planned imposition of candidates is not only a hoax but also something that should not feature in the present scenario,” it stated.

    The APC said that its state executive committee led by Chief Akin Oke has earned itself a reputation for upholding the sanctity of internal democracy as enshrined in the party’s constitution.

    It said that the governor has also demonstrated personal commitment to the ideals of the party.

    According to the party, “the delay in the release of guidelines by the party was caused by the new development explained to all stakeholders by OYSIEC at a meeting last Wednesday.

    “The stakeholders meeting indicated that the recent delineation of wards exercise done in the state would be implemented at the May 12 poll.

    “The implication is that additional wards have been created but they have not been made public.

    “It then became imperative to wait on OYSIEC which had promised to release the map and necessary documents this week to guide all participating political parties.”

    The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has attributed the crisis on the review of the Ibadan Chieftaincy Law to the alleged ambition of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja.

    The party said the former governor was allegedly taking advantage of the situation to broaden his personal interest and fight a needless war with his perceived political adversaries.

    In a statement yesterday in Ibadan, the state capital, by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olawale Sadare, APC condemned Ladoja’s alleged role in the organisation and the violence that followed the installation of some village heads (baales) and family heads (mogajis) at the Popoyemoja palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Monday.

    The statement reads: “It is most unfortunate to discover that a former number one citizen of a state like Oyo, who doubles as an Ibadan high chief, would not mind subjecting the state to another social unrest just to satisfy his own whims and caprices. Senator Rashidi Ladoja has a known history of instigating resentment against people, government and institutions to derive some personal benefits, as he did in 2002/2003 against the government of late Alhaji Lam Adesina.

    “This time, he is up again to fight his way back to the Agodi Government House, after he tried and failed twice in 2011 and 2015. At 73, one wonders why Ladoja would start up many fights on many fronts only when another general election was approaching, if not that he has his eyes on contesting election. As he is struggling to dislodge original members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and usurp the party’s structure, Ladoja is also waging a war against the APC government of Senator Abiola Ajimobi and he has just discovered a tool in the Olubadan palace.

    “The Monday violence at Popoyemoja was a script written by Ladoja and his supporters to either whip up sentiment against the government and other members of the Olubadan-in-Council or deal with some characters within the ill-conceived political re-alignment, those who could stand on Ladoja’s way towards taking full control of the PDP. But we would like to urge relevant security agencies to do the needful by unravelling the mystery surrounding the unfortunate incident.

    “There are many questions begging for answers: when did Ladoja become so over-bearing on the palace that he would now dictate who to be installed as what by the kabiyesi and even choose his birthday for such event? Why was it that he arranged for the presence of his loyalists, like Senator Olufemi Lanlehin at the palace with whom he hid somewhere until after the ‘invading gunmen’ finished their attacks?

    “More importantly, the public should be informed that the protests against the recent chieftaincy law review have largely come from politicians who are sympathetic to Ladoja’s cause and their supporters. However, we call on Oba Saliu Adetunji to checkmate some unscrupulous politicians who lurk around and use the palace to fight political war since he would forever remain a father to all and sundry, irrespective of individuals’ political and religious beliefs.”

    Oyo 2019: Re-alignment against ruling party will end in futility – APC

    The All Progressives Congress ( APC ) Oyo State chapter, says the on-going re-alignment of forces by the opposition political players in the state ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial election would fail.

    This was contained in a statement by Mr Olawale Sadare, the party’s Public Relations Officer in Ibadan on Saturday.

    The leaderships of opposition political parties in the state, including the Accord Party, Social Democratic Party, Labour Party and Peoples Democratic Party have initiated a move to regroup against the ruling APC.

    The re-alignment is aimed at dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC ) in the state in the 2019 elections.

    Prominent among the state political leaders in the move were former Gov. Rasheed Ladoja, former Gov. Adebayo Alao-Akala, Mr Seyi Makinde and Alhaji Sharafadeen Alli.

    “We are a governing party that has distinguished itself as the only vehicle of good governance, peace and wholesome development desired by the majority of the people of Nigeria, including the good citizens of the state.

    “What they are planning is a civilian coup against the electorate but it would not see the light of day for many reasons.

    “Most characters involved in the gang-up have had opportunities in the past to impact positively on the lives of the people but they failed as a result of incurable traits of incompetence, selfishness and cluelessness,’’ it said.

    The party stated that many of the arrow heads of the alignment are ignorant of how government works from the way they criticize government policies and condemn its projects.

    The party stated that Nigerians would not support any alignment, re-alignment or gang-up from the same set of people that plunged the nation into economic mess.

    It counselled the sponsors of alignment and those who intend to benefit from it to realize that the effort would end up in futility.

    No consensus arrangement, says Oyo APC

    The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has said there was no consensus arrangement as its primaries will be free and fair.

    Its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth conduct of the primaries.

    He, however, ruled out consensus arrangement, which many have expressed reservations that the party may adopt in place of primaries.

    “The party is prepared for the smooth conduct of its primaries from the least elective position to the governorship election. The party has done the needful, what we are waiting for are the guidelines for the conduct of the primaries and as soon as that is released we shall begin the primaries.”

    Oyo APC: Rally is a show of shame

    THE Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the rally by the Accord Party to welcome some defectors into its fold as a show of shame.

    Its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, in a statement yesterday, said the event was a “demonstration of political naivety, failure and expiration of some political players fond of exaggerating their worth before the electorate.”

    The APC faulted the party over what it called its alleged “notoriety for parading the same set of pretenders and blackmailers as defectors from the APC.”

    The statement said the rally was designed to misinform the public and win voters’ sympathy “in a fraudulent manner” or plunge the state into another era of crisis.

    It added: “The rally was nothing but a show of shame organised by a one-man party which is bent on returning Oyo State to the era of political terrorism.

    “It (the rally) was held to celebrate some politically naive and over-zealous individuals who have penchant for sabotaging genuine and well-defined efforts to improve the quality of lives of the masses since their mantra revolves around individualism and self-aggrandisement.”

    The party urged the electorate to be wary of what it called the antics of “some self-serving individuals and shameless political players whose stock in trade is to thwart the peaceful atmosphere and provision of good governance by any progressive government.”
