    An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court has dissolved a 25-year-old marriage between Bello Catherine and her husband, Sule.

    The marriage was dissolved on grounds of frequent fighting, regular cursing, threats to life with charms and dangerous objects.

    Catherine, 68, resident of No 5, Orere-Owu, Ajibade street, in Ado-Ekiti, said she had known her husband for 25 years and their union produced three children, who are all married.

    She said the union produced three children, Taye Bello 25, female, Kehinde, 25 and Taye Bello,19, female.

    She said her husband threatened to kill her and he was fond of saying that he would make her father’s house desolate by destroying it.

    Catherine said, he always threatened that he will use charm and waste her life.

    “My husband told me that he knows where I live and that he will come there to behead me with cutlass” she said.

    The petitioner therefore urged the court to separate them, as she does not want to have anything to do with him anymore.

    The President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, ordered that since the respondent had repeatedly shunned the court and vowed never to appear, consequently, dissolved the union.

    Akomolede, ruled that since the respondent has behaved in such a manner that the petitioner could not reasonably be expected to continue living with him and the petitioner has shown a formal act of tiredness, hence separated both parties.

    Man seeks dissolution of marriage over adultery

    An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court has fixed March 8 to deliver judgment in a petition for dissolution of marriage, filed by ‎a mechanic, Olayiwola Olarewaju.

    The President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, gave the date after hearing submissions of parties.

    Olarewaju, 39, and a resident of Omisanjana Street, Ado-Ekiti, had asked the court to dissolve his 7-year-old marriage with Yetunde, over allegation of adultery and assault.

    The petitioner told the court that his wife was adulterous and combative.

    He said although no official marital rites were done to consummate the union, the marriage was blessed with three children.

    The petitioner told the court that he had in 2013, sued ‎her, because she aborted a pregnancy she had for another man while they lived together.

    He said the intervention of family members compelled him to eventually withdraw the matter from court.

    He said on Dec.25, 2‎017, the respondent left the house with their two children in the pretext of going to collect money from one of her debtors in Oke-Ila Street.

    The petitioner said it was the next day that the respondent returned home.

    “She claimed she and our two children slept in her uncle’s house, who lives at Oke-ila Street,’’ he said.

    Olarewaju, however, said he and his elder sister traced the movement of the respondent to a particular man’s house.

    He said it was discovered that the respondent had often visited the man.

    The petitioner further said apart from being adulterous, the respondent was a trouble maker.

    Olarewaju prayed the court to dissolve the union, adding that the court should grant him custody of his three children to enable him take good care of them.

    Testifying in the matter as witness, Mrs Olayinka Adeoye, re-echoed the allegations of the petitioner that the respondent was adulterous.

    According to her, she and the petitioner have caught the respondent in several compromising sexual acts with a man other than the petitioner.

    The respondent, Yetunde , 33, a tailor, and a resident ‎of Omisanjana Street, Ado-Ekiti, denied all the allegations levelled against her.

    She told the court that on Dec.25, 2017, her debtor actually delayed her and in the process the battery of her phone went flat.

    According to her, the incident unfortunately compelled her to sleep in her uncle’s house.

    Yetunde said she could not get a motorcycle or taxi to bring her home around 10p.m.

    She prayed the court to award the custody of her three‎ children to her, if the petitioner insisted that the court should dissolve their union.

    The respondent further requested that the court ordered the petitioner to pay her N15, 000 as monthly feeding allowance for their three ‎children.

    Divorce-seeking man tells court: ‘My wife is an adulteress, drunkard and dishonest’

    A husband, Mr Lamidi Adebayo on Thursday asked an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court to dissolve his 28-year-old marriage with his wife, Bose.

    The petitioner is accusing Bose of adultery, drunkenness and dishonesty.

    Adebayo, 48, a commercial driver and resident of No. 89, Isato Street, Ado-Ekiti, told the court that the couple had not conducted any marital rite, but they have four children.

    He further told the court that his neighbours had informed him several times that his wife and one of her friends were “touring the houses of men”, but never believed the information.

    The petitioner said the nature of his job as a driver made it difficult for him to be at home always.

    “I was shocked on Nov. 7, 2017 when my childhood friend, named Lateef, a herbalist, invited me to his house, and told me that I should forgive him that ‎he has been having secret affairs with my wife.

    “He told me that the respondent informed him that her husband had died long time ago, whereas am still very much alive,” he said.

    The petitioner also alleged that the respondent ‎was a drunkard who takes gin, assorted wines and palm wine to stupor every morning.

    Lamidi said he had tried every possible means ‎to stop his wife’s adulterous act and drunkenness but to no avail.

    The petitioner, therefore, urged the court to dissolve the marriage because of her behaviour and dishonesty.

    The plea of the woman was not immediately taken, but the ‎President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, after hearing the petitioner’s testimony adjourned the case to Feb.15, for further hearing.

    A pastor, Adedayo Adeyemo, on Wednesday asked an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court to dissolve the nine-year-old marriage between him and his wife, Kemi.

    The ‎News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) reports that the petitioner sought the dissolution on the grounds of  his wife’s  laziness, lack of care for the children, being adamant to correction and loss of love.

    Adeyemo, 38, who is the pastor of Joint Heir Assembly of God, Ado-Ekiti,  told the court that the respondent does not take good care of the house and his children.

     He said he had performed all marriage rites including payment of dowry, adding that  the marriage had produced two children aged nine and five years.

    “My wife is a lazy woman; she does not sweep the house, prepare food for the children or bath the children.

    “ I cook  for the children,’’ he said.

    Adeyemo, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve his marriage  and award the custody of the  two children to him.

    The President of the Court, Mrs ‎Olayinka Akomolede, however,  adjourned the case till  Jan.18, 2018 for further hearing.

    Court dissolves 16-year-old marriage between clerics

    An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court, ‎on Thursday, dissolved a 16-year-old marriage between Mr Emmanuel Jegede and his wife, Olubunmi, both clergymen.

    The marriage was dissolved on the grounds of threat to life, provocation, stubbornness, lies and adultery.

    The petitioner, Mr Emmanuel Jegede, 41, a clergyman, resident at Irewumi quarters, opposite Bawa Estate, Ado-Ekiti, told the court that the respondent was arrogant, lazy, stubborn and unsupportive.

    He explained that the respondent, who gave birth to three children for him, was not willing to work to assist him in taking care of the children’s welfare.

    Emmanuel said that she was the only one responsible for the family upkeep including the education of the children.

    The petitioner, therefore, pleaded with the court to separate them and award the custody of his three children to him for proper care.

    The parties have since January, 2016, stopped living together, as the petitioner had remarried ‎a new wife.

    The respondent, Mrs Olubunmi Jegede, 39, a prophetess, trader and resident at No 31, Ifesowapo q‎uarters, off Nova road, Ado-Ekiti, denied all the allegations leveled against her.

    She alleged that the petitioner was an adulterous man and that in 2008 alone, he committed adultery with five women in their church.

    The respondent added that she even caught more women with the petitioner in their parish.

    The mother of three children told the court that for two years, the petitioner abandoned her and the children.

    She said the petitioner preferred to drink beer to stupor and smoke cigarette instead of taking good care of her and the children.

    Olubunmi said she was responsible for the school fees of their second child, Elizabeth, 6, since 2015 to date.

    She consented to the decision of the petitioner that the court should dissolve their marriage.

    The respondent, however prayed the court to award the custody of her three children to her for proper care.

    The president of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, observed that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved the marriage.

    She awarded ‎the custody of the three children to the respondent for proper care.

    Akomolede ruled that the petitioner would be paying N2, 500 as feeding allowance on each of the three children, beginning on or before Nov. 30 through the court registry.

    She further ruled that the petitioner would be responsible for the education of the children at all levels.

    However, the court granted the petitioner, unrestricted access to his children between the hours of 8a.m. and 6p.m.

    Man seeks dissolution of five-year-old marriage over neglect

    A 66-year-old man, Alaba Aribisala, on Thursday asked an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court, to dissolve his 5-year-old marriage to his wife, Adenike, on grounds of lack of care.

    Aribisala who resides at No.13, Egbewa St., Temidire Quarters, Ado-Ekiti, told the court that since 2012 that he started living with the respondent, she had not shown him love.

    He alleged that Adenike often prepared food for their twins and refuse to provide his own meal.

    The petitioner also claimed that the respondent does not clean the house nor wash his dirty clothes.

    ‎Aribisala, who is an elder at the Mountain of Fire Ministries, explained that whenever he corrected the respondent over her negative attitudes, she would start cursing him.

    He told the court that he no longer loves the respondent and urged the court to dissolve the marriage.

    The petitioner further urged the court to award the custody of his two children to the respondent because the twins were just four years old.

    Aribisala said that he would provide N3,000 as monthly feeding allowance and would be responsible for their education.

    The respondent, Adenike, 37, a tailor, denied all the allegations levelled against her by the petitioner.

    She told the court that when she met the ‎petitioner in 2012, she agreed to marry her and he rented a two-bedroom apartment and they were both living comfortably.

    Adenike said that she often prepared food for him and wash the petitioner’s dirty clothes.

    She denied ever cursing the petitioner or show any disrespect.

    The respondent told the court that since giving birth to the twins, the petitioner had failed to care and provide for her welfare and that of the kids.

    She alleged that her husband was in the habit of visiting different prophets and herbalists to provide solutions to his business challenges.

    According to the petitioner, “on one occasion the petitioner told me that a prophet said that I was responsible for the problems that he was facing in his business.’’

    Adenike, however, absolved herself of any complicity in her husband’s business challenges.

    She told the court that the petitioner was violent and often physically abused her, after which he would order her to pack her belongings out of his house.

    The respondent said that the petitioner had been threatening her life ‎but she was just enduring the sufferings in his house.

    Adenike prayed the court to award the custody of the children to her and requested for N20,000 as monthly feeding and welfare allowance for the children.

    ‎She agreed with the petitioner for the dissolution of the union, but appealed to the petitioner to give her more time to get a good accommodation.

    The President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, after hearing from both parties, adjourned the case until Oct. 26, for judgment.

    Court dissolves nine-year-old marriage over adultery

    An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Thursday dissolved the 9-year-old marriage between Afolabi Adebayo and his wife, Kemisola.

    The marriage was dissolved on grounds of frequent fighting, adultery, lack of care, among others.

    Adebayo, 38, a resident of No. 14, Faglo Lane, Basiri, Ado-Ekiti, accused his wife of waywardness and not being a straightforward woman.

    He told the court that he has seen his wife with different men, adding that, if she wanted to receive a call, she would leave the house.

    The father of one said the major cause of their fighting was adultery, adding that when he could not bear it anymore, he had to leave the house for her.

    He claimed that she does not respect him or his family members and recalled his wife being rude to his father and uncle, because they wanted to intervene in their matter.

    The petitioner prayed the court to dissolve the marriage.

    But the respondent, Kemisola, 35, denied the allegation of adultery.

    She confirmed their incessant fighting and attributed ‎it to uncaring attitude of her husband towards her.

    She admitted that her husband saw the phone number of a man on her phone, but the man was the husband of her sister.

    Kemisola denied lack of respect for her father-in-law and uncle.

    She, however, accepted the dissolution of the marriage and prayed the court to award her the custody of their 9-year-old daughter, Adedolapo.

    The President of the Court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, in her judgment, observed that the marriage had broken down irretrievably and consequently dissolved the marriage.

    Akomolede ruled that the custody of Adedolapo should be awarded to the wife, while her education should be jointly funded by both parties.

    She also ordered that the petitioner should be paying N3, 000 as the child’s monthly feeding allowance.

    She also granted the petitioner access to see his daughter anytime he feels like doing so.

  • Court dissolves 15-year-old marriage over frequent beatings

    An Ado-Ekiti Customary Court on Thursday dissolved the 15-year-old marriage between Mercy Augustine and her husband, Linus Augustine on grounds of frequent beatings.

    Mercy, 35, a public servant had filed a divorce petition, accusing her husband of maltreating, beating, and disgracing her in the presence of his relatives.

    She also said that her husband was dating other women.

    Mercy a mother of three children, explained that since she left the house of the respondent in Aug.31, 2013, he had refused to allow her visit the children in his custody.

    She appealed to the court ‎to save the future of her children by dissolving the marriage and to award her custody of the children for their proper care and upbringing.

    Mercy prayed the court to dissolve her marriage to enable her have rest of mind and to restrain her husband’s relatives from threatening her life.

    Linus, 47, a public servant, however, refuted all the allegations.

    He accused the wife of infidelity as he recalled catching her making love with her male colleague on their matrimonial bed in April 2014.

    He said that he queried her over her wrong doing, but she showed no remorse, but rather requested for transfer to Ado-Ekiti, and left him and the children in Lokoja, where they lived as at May, 2014.

    According to him, the wife once call to confess that she slept with three men in Ado-Ekiti, adding that he reported the matter to elders in his hometown.

    He agreed with the petitioner to dissolve the marriage‎ for peace to reign and prayed the court for the custody of the three children who lived with him in the past three years.

    President of the court, Mrs Olayinka Akomolede, granted the request of both parties by dissolving the marriage.
    She noted that the marriage had broken down irretrievably.

    She awarded the custody of the three children to their father and ordered that they be allowed to spend their long vacation holidays with their mother.

    The mother was also granted daily access to the children ‎between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. without any restriction ‎.

    Akomolede further ordered that during the period of visitation both parties must maintain peace.
