    Old students pledge to develop school

    The 1990 old students set of Township Comprehensive Secondary School, Amaifike Orlu, Imo State, has marked its fifth anniversary at Festac Town in Lagos.

     At the event, old students relived the past. Present were the clergy, traditional rulers, community leaders and former international, Ifeanyi Udeze.

     National Secretary, Mr. Chidi Okenze, noted efforts made by the executive to refurbish the school.

     Guest speaker, Rev. Iyke Osuji, urged the old students to give back to the community where their school is located. President of the association, Pastor Ukozor Mcdonald, called for unity among members to achieve their objectives.

     Highlight of the event is the president’s N1 million donation to a member, Mrs. Ngori Eriri, to support her business.

    Career talk for students

    Old students of Ijebu Muslim College, Ijebu Ode will tomorrow hold its yearly career talk for secondary school leavers.

    Organised under the aegis of Ijebu Muslim College Old Students Association (IMCOSA), the talk will focus on assisting secondary school leavers to make the right choice for their future.

    The lecture with the theme: ‘College and post-secondary education’, will be delivered by a former commissioner in Ogun State, Chief Fassy Yusuf. National President of IMCOSA, Otunba Olawale Salami and Chairman of the Organising Planning Committee, Mrs Folashade Odueke, said the programme was part of the core responsibilities of IMCOSA towards assisting products of the college to become great achievers.

    The Adeola Odutola College Old Students Association (AOCOSA) 74/79 Set has marked its 50th anniversary celebrations with a highlight of some of the interventions carried out by the set to support their alma mater.

    At a three-day long re-union ceremony in Ijebu-Ode, which began with a Jumat prayers at the Ijebu-Ode Central Mosque and culminating in thanksgiving service at the Adeola Odutola College Chapel, the old students of the set also carried out medical examination of the male members as well as blood sugar test, BP tests among other medical examinations of the interested old students, conducted by qualified and experienced health workers, who advised them accordingly.

    There was a lecture on insurance, delivered by an insurance guru, Sir Teju Ogunjimi, former Managing Director of Arm Pensions Insurance. A lecture on health was delivered by Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki, head, General Hospital, Odeda.

    Some members of the AOCOSA 74/79 set also admonished the students on career choices. An accountant and retiree of the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Folasade Abdul (nee Adebambo), emphasised the importance of passing Mathematics, English language and other commercial subjects very well at O/Level for those aspiring to study accountancy in the university or polytechnic.

    Kunle Adeniyi, an engineer, harped on the necessity of Mathematics, English Language and other science subjects for career in ICT, engineering and medicine. Mrs. Ayotunde Lawal (nee Okupe), one of the Special Assistants to the Ogun State Governor, admonished the students on etiquette and good behaviour.

    The set’s chairman, Prof. Adeyinka Odunsi, lauded members for their commitment and unity of purpose that have continued to keep the set intact.

    Odunsi noted that it was also the unity that made some of the interventions in their alma mater possible and successful.

    “We have kept faith with our old school by spending a substantial amount of money on the renovation of the Science laboratories.

    “Other benevolent activities included donation of sports items to the senior and junior school teams, which was sponsored by one of us, Otunba Tade Adegboyega; financial contributions for repair of the damaged roof of AOCOSA Alumni Hall and renaming of Yellow House to Otunba Tade House.

    “We have also created a welfare fund for our members, including drafting and adopting a constitution for our set.”

    The National President of AOCOSA, Haji Biyi Olufowobi, commended members of the 74/79 set for their interventions, especially the provision of financial and material supports to address problems their alma mater was grappling with, even as he  urged them not to relent in supporting the younger generations of the school.

    Old students to mark 50th anniversary

    The 1974/79 set of the Adeola Odutola College Old Students Association (AOCOSA 74/79 Set), home and in the diaspora, will hold its 50th anniversary of coming together between June 21 and June 23 at Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

    According to the anniversary planning committee, activities will start with a jumat prayer at the Ijebu-Ode Central Mosque on Friday and a thanksgiving service at the Adeola Odutola College Chapel on Sunday.

    Saturday, 22 June, is slated for the major events, which starts with a physical exercise in the morning, medical examination, admonition/counseling of current pupils by the old students, all within the school premises. These will be followed by lectures on health and insurance by experts, while the evening will feature a gala night and party.

  • Old students restate commitment to alma mater

    Old students of Ijebu Ode Grammar School Ogun State (JOGSOBA) have restated their commitment to the institution’s development.

    Its National President, Ebenezer Osoba, said it was the only way to ensure that the school retained its leadership position in academic excellence.

    Speaking at the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the school’s premises in Ijebu Ode, Osoba assured that the old boys would continue to provide funds and leadership for the development and maintenance of the school’s facilities.

    He urged the old boys to complete the on-going ultra-modern ICT/Cafeteria project in record time by donating generously.

    The president also urged the principal and teachers not to rest on their oars.

    The Principal, Ijebu Ode Grammar School (IOGS) Senior School, Mr. Gbenga Odusenlu, expressed appreciation to the National Executive Council (NEC) and the old boys for what he termed, “unalloyed support and understanding” towards the school’s development.

    Odusenlu listed the needs of the school and sought the support of the old boys in meeting them.

    The AGM featured the election of new leaders into the NEC.  They included Osoba, who retained his post; Vice President, Otunba Segun Timi; Secretary, Cornelius Onanuga; Assistant Secretary, Osiyale Olulanu Abimbola; Financial Secretary, Oludare Osiboye; Treasurer, Gbenga Joseph Olusanya; Gbemiga Amuludun; Social Secretary, Olanrewaju Onafuye and the ex-officios, Otunba Bolujoko, Monday Ajah, Wale Adetokunbo and Kolapo Ogunyemi.

    Members also approved the composition of a seven-man board of trustees for the association.

    Those appointed were: the Ajalorun of Ijebu-Ife, King Adesesan Oguntayo, a former Chief Judge (CJ) of Ogun State, Justice Olukayode Somolu, Osoba, the first old boy to teach and be appointed

  • Old students to build lab, library, others

    The Old Students Association of Community Grammar School, Igboegurin, Ondo State, has concluded plans to build a modern laboratory, equip the library, and renovate the school hall of their alma mater.

    The plan follows the provision of borehole and toilet facilities for the over 40-year old school.

    The decision was reached during the association’s quarterly meeting at Sappers Barrack, Nigerian Army, Ilese-Ijebu, Ogun State.

    The association’s President, Rev. Elisha Emaye, however said the old students should not be left alone to carry the burden of addressing the infrastructural needs of the school and appealed to the Ondo State government and agencies to assist them.

    “The old students association sank borehole for the students; we built a standard toilet for the school as part of giving back to the school and community.  But we are not stopping at that. We want to embark on renovation of the school hall, build a modern laboratory and a well-equipped library for the school.

    “The association cannot do it alone, but we are seeking help from government agencies and relevant stakeholders so as to achieve this goal,” Emaye said.

    Also, Dr Bamidele Fagbounka, a member of the association and lecturer at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye, harped on the commitment and cooperation of members as key factors necessary for the realisation of the planned projects.

    Similarly, Mr Omojuwa Segun said the projects when executed would make life, teaching and learning more meaningful to the students and the community.

    Segun expressed the optimism that the association would get support from many stakeholders.

  • Old students to launch N50m erosion control fund

    Old students of Our Lady of Apostles School (OLAS) , Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State will today launch a N50 million endowment fund to tackle erosion at the school and complete its chapel.

    Also at the event, which is part of the school’s 65th-anniversary, Senator  Oluremi Tinubu has been named among the beneficiaries of the school’s achievement awards.

    Senator Tinubu, who is representing Lagos Central in the National Assembly, will be honoured alongside a former Lagos State deputy governor, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu and others during the two-day event.

    Socials Secretary and Chairperson of Publicity Committee of the old students association  Mrs. Soledotun Abdulkarim-Yusuf said the school, which was established on January 25, 1954, was 65 yesterday.

    Mrs. Abdulkarim-Yusuf said: “The erosion is very bad and really serious. We have not been able to raise up to two million naira; that’s why we are making this awareness so that well-meaning Nigerians will come to our aid.

    “The school is divided into two but we the old students see the school as one. We don’t see it as different schools”.

  • Old students to honour Senator Tinubu, others

    Old students of Our Lady’s of Apostles School (OLAS) at Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State have named Senator Oluremi Tinubu among the beneficiaries of the school’s achievement awards at its 55th-anniversary ceremony holding on Saturday.

    Senator Tinubu, who is representing Lagos Central in the National Assembly, will be honoured alongside a former Lagos State deputy governor, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, among others during the two-day event.

    Socials Secretary of the OLAS Old Students Association, Mrs. Soledotun Abdulkarim Yusuf, told reporters yesterday that the school, which was established on January 25, 1954, will be 55 on Friday.

    The programme will also feature a ceremony to raise N50 million to tackle erosion on the school’s premises and complete the school’s chapel.

    Mrs Yusuf said: “We will have a career talk, show a documentary and interviews with our former principal, head teacher and a special documentary about the state of the school. There will also be the old school night.

    “Then, the second day, we will have the fundraising, reunion and networking with each other. We are also going to give awards to old students.

    “People like Senator Oluremi Tinubu will be awarded. She is an old student of the school and she has been supportive.”

     

  • Old students in Diaspora lift alma mater

    Some old students of Saint Charles High School, Osogbo, Osun State, in the Diaspora, have lent their support to the students of the school.

    In a ‘No Student is left behind’ gesture, Charleans in Diaspora lent their support to St  Charles High School Students, Osogbo with over N1 Million.

    In his statement a statement by the President, Charleans in Diaspora, Charlean Yemi Ajijolaiya appealed  to the members of the association to give back to  the alma mater by ensuring that all the final year students, regardless of sex or socioeconomic status, have the opportunity to sit for the next West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE).

    It was not the first time the Charleans in the Diaspora would respond to clarion call to support the school to run quality administration towards producing tomorrow great leaders. Sometimes last year, they paid a log of past dues of the school’s electricity bill so as to restore electricity, disconnected for many years of darkness to the school community.

    Also in 2018 year, the body also organized ‘Excellent Awards’ where 34 students and their teachers received about half a million naira.

  • Old students urged to strengthen association

    The class of 1973-78 of the Lagos African Church Grammar School, Ifako, has been urged to come together to strengthen the school’s alumni association.

    Its National President, Moses Paul, gave the charge at the 40th anniversary of the school’s Old Students Association, held last Saturday.

    He said: “The most important thing we can do for the future of Lagos African Church Grammar School Old Students Association (LAFROSA) is to make sure we are engaged and that’s  doing the most we can. We need to make sure that every member has a meaningful role to play, that we are all making a contribution that is valued”.

    He urged the old students to understand the importance of the association and give back to their alma mater.

    He noted that the association is looking forward to building hostels for the school.

    LAFROSA’s coordinator, Shola Animashaun, said as part of the 40th anniversary, the set is focused on equipping the school’s biology laboratory as a give back project.

    He said the set also renovated five classrooms at the cost of N1,055,000 10 years ago. He added that the association would continue to support the growth of the school.

    The one-week celebration featured career talks,  health talk, medical checkups and novelty match.

    The principal of the school,  Mrs Mojisola Oyetayo thanked the old students for their assistance to the school  and urged them to make the golden Jubilee  anniversary of the school which would hold in next March worthwhile
