Palace boss Glasner dismisses links with Man United

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner on Tuesday batted away questions over the managerial vacancy at Manchester United, saying cryptically he is “not allowed to bet”.

The Austrian is among the bookies’ favourites to replace Ruben Amorim, who was sacked on Monday after 14 months at Old Trafford.

Glasner, 51, has impressed since arriving at Palace in 2024, leading them to their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup last season.

The Palace boss, who is out of contract at the end of the season, said last month that talks over a potential new deal at Selhurst Park were on hold.

Speaking on the eve of his side’s home game against high-flying Aston Villa, he was evasive when asked about the United job.

“I’m not allowed to bet,” he said. “My contract has one paragraph (that says) I’m not allowed to bet. I don’t look at it.”

Glasner was asked whether it would be wise to back him to be United’s next manager.

“I also can’t give insider information because also I would be breaking my contract,” he said with a smile. “I’m Crystal Palace manager. It just makes no sense and it’s wasted time for you to ask me any more questions so I don’t talk about any other club.”

Glasner said the length of managers’ contracts had limited meaning.

“You can win trophies and six months later you aren’t the manager there anymore so I think if you see the length of a contract it doesn’t mean anything about the future,” he said.

“Even if I sign a new contract you could ask me every day, ‘What’s the future?’

“Ruben Amorim said he had 18 months left in his press conference and he’s not the manager anymore.

Uche in contention to make PL debut, Glasner confirms

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed that deadline day signing Christantus Uche is in contention to make his Premier League debut when the Eagles face Sunderland at Selhurst Park on Saturday, September 13.

Glasner revealed that Uche, along with the club’s other new signings, will be named in the matchday squad.

The versatile midfielder joined Palace on loan from La Liga side Getafe on deadline day, in a deal that includes an obligation to buy next summer.

Shortly after signing, he departed for international duty in Africa, where he made his competitive debut for the Super Eagles, coming off the bench to replace the injured Wilfred Ndidi in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

“We have 18 fit on-field players – and all the new signings will be in the squad tomorrow,” Glasner told reporters, as relayed by Palace’s official website.

For Uche, the clash against Sunderland could mark a swift introduction to English football.

The 22-year-old arrives in south London fully match fit, having featured extensively for Getafe earlier this season.

On Thursday, he trained with his new Crystal Palace teammates for around 40 minutes at the club’s training ground ahead of a possible home debut.

Uche is widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents to emerge from La Liga in recent seasons, having contributed 12 goal involvements (five goals and seven assists) in 36 appearances for Getafe

Glasner fancies Palace’s chances ahead of cup final

The quiet confidence seeping out of Crystal Palace’s training ground ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City was summed up by manager Oliver Glasner .

“We’re focused on what we want to do tomorrow at Wembley. We analysed Man City, but 90% we were talking about us,” Glasner, who will become the first Austrian to lead a team in an FA Cup final, told reporters. “This is what we can influence. We can influence our performance. We can influence what we want to do in and out of possession. And the focus was on our game. We have a lot of confidence and looking forward to the final.”

Palace may be 12th  in the Premier League but have matched their record points tally with two games still to play.

In the FA Cup they have clicked impressively, winning 3-0 at Fulham in the quarter-finals and then beating Aston Villa by the same margin at Wembley in the semis.

Now they have one last obstacle to get over and claim the south London club’s first major trophy in its 120-year history.

City, who are appearing in their third successive FA Cup final, have endured a humbling season and are still not guaranteed a top-five finish in the Premier League.

Palace drew 2-2 with City at Selhurst Park in the league and led 2-0 in the return fixture only to lose 5-2. They also lost 4-2 last April, a couple of months after Glasner took charge.

Scoring goals against Pep Guardiola’s team has not been a problem, but Glasner knows they will need to adjust defensively to give themselves the best possible chance at Wembley.

“In every single game (against City) we scored two goals, but we just had one draw, because we conceded four, two and five, so we have to make a few adjustments in our defending,” he said.

Crystal Palace ready to let Eze,Guehi leave for 130m Euros

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has given his blessing to the sales of both Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze this summer to fund an overhaul of the squad.

Guehi is certain to leave as he has just 12 months left on his contract with former club Chelsea, Tottenham, and Newcastle are ready to bid.

Eze could also depart Selhurst Park as he has two years remaining on his contract.

A £ 60 million release clause can be activated by rival clubs at the end of the season.

Glasner is understood to be relaxed about both potential sales as he is planning significant changes at the FA Cup finalists.

The Austrian has asked the club for up to six new players this summer, as he wants to make Palace even more physically dominant, and is ready to sacrifice Eze if necessary.

While Palace have delighted fans by reaching the FA Cup final against Man City at Wembley this month, Glasner has been disappointed at times by his side’s inconsistency.

The 50-year-old wants players who are prepared to work harder off the ball, with Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham expected to be a target if the Championship club are not promoted.
